    Chain Scythe - Opinions and Suggestions

    I've been thinking lately about different ways to improve Dark Knight, trying to think of a way to help us contribute to fighting endgame NMs. As of late SE loves to give NMs horrid AoE spells and weaponskills, making it inefficient for us melee in close proximity.

    So how can we be useful in such situations? Nuke? Not with our lolelemental spells or long recast drain spells, the spot in the party would be better filled with a blm, rng or extra healer.

    SE had the bright idea of gracing us with Scarlet Diarrhea Delirium, trying to give us a spot in such an event, inept to the fact that it completely goes against sane battle tactics employed on such NMs...

    My latest idea focuses on our weapon; what if we could melee safely outside of those annoying AoEs? What if we had available a scythe with a 16 yalm(rough estimate) reach? With such a weapon we could melee at a safe distance and run in closer to weaponskill. I'm not asking for a new weapon group, just a new extendable scythe.

    My idea is to add a Chain Scythe otherwise known as a Kusarigama to Dark Knight's arsenal of weapons in attempt to make us once again desirable in endgame. Extendable melee weapons are hardly new to MMO games (check out Aion's here: http://www.aionsource.com/topic/2962...weapons-guide/)

    Just curious why is everything on this forum scythe scythe scythe scythe and more scythe. I for one have always been and will continue to be a Greatsword DRK, and we need just as much love as scythe DRKs.

    As for your idea it doesn't work. First kusarigama isn't a scythe and chain its a sickle and chain, which a sickle is indeed a much smaller version of a scythe but the whole concept behind your idea is to really incorporate a new type of weapon, and believe me thats how SE is gonna respond to your idea.

    Second it doesn't help DRK as a whole just the scythe DRKs and DRK has more arsenal than that. I believe someone had previously came up with an idea for a spell that turns our weapons into ranged weapons by making dark energy blades (think of a dark energy kaiten or the dark getsugatensho) when we swing, which I also agree would be a neat idea but SE would ultimately refuse that due to PS2 limitations, redesigning the battle system, working on FF vs XIII (aka SE goes to the Bahamas), or insert random comment here.

    Third, I for one would love to see some reach weapons in this game, I really would like in past FF titles having a character with a reach weapon made it harder for the mob to damage them and I completely support the idea of bringing that mechanic into FFXI, but unfortunately SE doesn't like good ideas.

    Finally, I like the fact more people are using my quote of Scarlet Diarrhea and hope that come version update they change the name to that so that everyone can understand how bad it is and that anyone who had done any work on it should feel ashamed for even coding any part of it. Anyways lets hope SE will see the light and realize just how stupid they are.

    I suggested previously an Ability that the next spell you cast would "Imbue" the weapon. Allowing ranged attacks swinging the scythe. Hurling bolts at the enemy. As you can see it has not been implemented.

    Scythe > GS. Its a secondary option and always will be. Even in the days of SC+MB we only used GS because of our lack of understanding of the game. If a PLD can equip the weapon its a toy.

    IMO, the reason we used GS for SC+MB back then was because spinning slash and ground strike have ratio bonus, which to this day the scythe still don't have a WS similar to SS or GS, not because we lack knowledge of the game. And don't say that "we have enough attack now", if you have enough attack now then it is time to use Torcleaver, since it has the highest ceiling of all DRK ws outside abyssea for now.

    If you are only comparing non relic non empy DRK weapons, then clearly scythe is the superior weapon type due to the fact that less mobs are difficult enough to warren the use of SS and GS, but that's exactly what StingRay is talking about, how about some love for GS? To me it is all personal preference and opinion, if you are good at the job, you can use both to the same effectiveness. The difference in skill cap is way too small to call one a primary and one a secondary weapon.

    stupid <.< like really stupid.. also at the scythe/GS debate stfu both are great weapons if you dont like one you can just go level another job and ... use BOTH of there main weapons..

    I have Apocalypse and Caladbolg.

    My DRK seems to use them both quite well.

    So, yea.

    If your DRK can't use Greatsword well maybe you should send a complaint to the Help desk!

    As you are bugged.

    In the old days Scythe and Great sword were balanced amazingly

    Scythe = Guillotine = Best DMG Weapon skill we had but you needed acc/atk to back it up

    Great sword = Spinning slash = attack/acc bonus decent ftp mod at 100% tp basically covered any situation Guillotine suxed

    Now Great sword has an edge on Scythe cause of Cala (tho if ya have relic it's pretty balanced)
