It's "compatible" but vista won't let you run unsigned drivers, and the only way to get a driver signed is to pay microsoft. So in order to get it to work you have to run through some hoops and put windows into "test mode" so you can run a driver you signed yourself.
Or you can just hit F8 and disable driver signature enforcement every time you boot.

Also, only 64-bit windows enforces driver signing. 32-bit windows will complain when you install the driver but will use it anyway.
