i personally would like to change the appearance of my character. And yes, maybe even the race and gender. After looking at the same model for 5+ years, a change would nice. Not all of us have the time and energy to finish missions again, level crafting again just to get a different appearance. I can understand not allowing gender due to preexisting marriages (like I am). Still, it's not a bad idea and I would like it.

New wyverns wouldn't be a problem, but with SE creeping closer and closer to PS2 limitations, they probably want to use that room(HD/memory) to add a new enemy type, rather then a cosmetic change. A couple of different colors (8, to match the elements) would be nice, even if you'd be lucky to see two DRGs in a single zone, but alas.

Not just marriages, also open and completed quests, worn and obtained gear. So all that has to be dealt with one way or another. And then there's the time spent on implementing it that could have been used on more productive changes.
Ultimately, it would be functionality that sees almost no use, and when it does gets used it's for stat minmaxing or merely cosmetic changes.

Or to put it differently, if you could choose where the devs would focus on, new weaponskills/abilities/gear or race/gender/face change, what would you choose? And what would the other 400k players choose?

Wow... you have no concept of how programming works, do you? The quests, RSE, etc that check for race, gender, level are all done on an action. I.E. talking to an NPC, changing jobs in mog house, etc. The checks aren't done continuously. If it werea, it would be very, VERY poor programming (not to mention very resource intensive to your computer even using, interrupts to check.). For example, let's say you have a way of changing your job outside the game's normal control. If you equip whm only gear and then change your job to war, without a sanity check for input (which game does have) your gear stays on. It doesn't matter to the game what gear/missions/quests/etc you have unless the program check for it as it is just a flag or bit values to it. People already said that they wouldn't mind re-doing the quests that are gender/race/etc specific. As long as the understanding is there (like how we are warned that we can lose signatures on AH'ing items.), there should be no problem. And if people don't read and miss that, well, that's too bad on them.

What would the other 400k want? They want a model change in some way, shape or form. Even if it's just a hair change. You know, something fun. You talk as if it's a zero-sum game. Either they not do this or we NEVAR GET JOB ABILITIES AGAIN!!! If that was the case, the following wouldn't have happened:
Battle system adjustments vs new limit breaks.
New Job Abilities Vs. New Items.
Expansion Vs. Existing Item Icon changes.
    etc,etc,etc.

The point of the of a suggestion thread is to suggest ideas. We won't be upset if it doesn't happen. You throw suggestions at it and see what sticks. That's why it's called a suggestion, not a mandate. If we all only suggested what they already was going to do/decided they want to do, then there's no point in a suggestion thread. (ala Joseph Heller's Catch 22) There's already a few things that's happened that we didn't think they were able to do and, conversely, a few things they can't do that we thought was possible. Let's do what we're suppose to do in the creative process. Throw suggestions out and see what sticks.

thank you. You are right. It seems like just changing the character dat files would be super easy. People already change dats so that they see different character models on their own PC. It really can't be very hard for SE to change skins on a character. If people wanted stats, quests etc. to reflect this, then It might be a little work, but just changing the aesthetics is easy.
