When I first came across those "strange Apparatus" and had to look up on wiki how to "activate them" I always felt like they were mysteriously amazing. First, they were offered the unique "Rune" items. Secondly, the SA were associated with the Kaluu race or whomever they were. Kaluu or Zilaart advanced/god systems.
I would like to expand their use and back stories a bit.
I've mention the concept of mimic/copy weapons before, but would like to re-iterate. These "Strange Apparatus" could create the next tiered Rune weapons called "mimic/copy" blades which allow a player to imprint the weapons with ALL Weaponskills of a particular type. Perhaps the mimic/copy weapons can even be used by all jobs.
The actual game function is a player equips these weapons and performs X amount of Weaponskills. Much like the magian trial, each completion could offer a modest 10-15% damage to weaponskill. More importantly, specialize strikes such as red lotus blade and vorpal blade could also be imprinted allowing redmage to use...as an example.
As far as a new synergy furnace, the Strange Apparatus could be considered "+1~+5 furnaces". Allowing HQ and higher skill formulas. I'm thinking +2 results or EQ(exceptional quality) results. These results could be a -1~5% weapon delay, def up, etc.
I was also thinking about automaton attachments. Perhaps introducing new tiers of current attachments or lowered elemental slots.
Another type item I'd like are "charged" items. Such as teleport rings, but with rare-ish bonuses.
I wouldn't mind seeing some storyline associated with actually working these devices and why they were created and why they were placed in those exact locations.
Interestingly enough, while the 6 "strange apparatus" are tied to specific elements and chips...there are 3? Chips that drop in Pso Jxa that have no "Strange Apparatus" associate with them(I think the colors were cymine, grey, and something else).
