I just made an Ukon, and im really burned out by the grind. Is it completely necessary to get an Almace, or is the WS all that really matters to a PLD right now.

Ukon is a lot more of a pain in the butt to get than Almace. If it's the grind that burned you out, definitely stick with Almace because the path is a lot easier and WoE is just as horrid of a grind, especially if your luck with coins isn't stellar. Just realize that it will probably take just as long if only because the Bri/Sobek path is pretty much always jam-packed.
If you have a group that can claim Guku well, and/or doesn't mind taking yellow sobeks when other groups wipe, you'll get done with Almace a lot faster than a WoE weapon.
I might add getting a bunch of people to spend a couple hours Fell Cleaving mobs is another good way to get Guku Key Items. Just have each person hold one and it will make getting Sobek much easier. Plus you will get the other Key Items when you cleave too. We would have a small group Cleave while another small group of 2-3 claimed Gukumatz. If we got claim cool, if not no biggie being that the cleave pt would just say "guys come get Guku KI from this chest"
I'd go with the Emp version for a few reasons,
1) it completely destroys the WoE version. ODDD helps a lot.
2) getting to 85 is easy for Sword path, 90 version is annoying but not impossible.
3) Having an Emp weapon especially on WAR, since you can proc red on Minax and Cleave gold boxes for Guku's Skin should take very little time.
4) With just Haste outside of Abyssea I can keep Aftermath up until next WS on PLD granted that's on old content (haven't done Voidwatch yet) I'd say the spikes of 200-400 damage in between WSs is very nice for keeping hate capped at a decent rate.
You still have to kill Minax this way, not that that is a hard task to accomplish just that you can only get Skin/Nail from chests.
Going from the branch it took our group of 4 40 (9 for helms 31 for Skins) days to get 50 Helms and Skins. Helms we killed the NMs for KIs, Skins/Nails we Gold Box farmed. It would have taken maybe 30-35 days but we had taken a few breaks in the time of farming those.
That's without an Emp weapon, once we finished the Katana my 50 Skins for the sword took 17 days.
The real problem is the 90 trial and the fact that the 95 trial is right around the corner. Esp with sword and katana so many are stuck at 85 which will soon put them even further behind. If PLD isnt a high priority job Id do WoE for ease of keeping it capped.
It is a problem if you let it be a problem, NIN + WAR + WHM (same 3 jobs you'd use to get KIs for the other NMs) get the KI to pop the NM, and you can brew the NM pretty quick, heck find a COR with Wildfire and offer them 500k per brew (assuming you don't have COR with wildfire or a friend who does) and knock out 6+ in 1 brew (obviously get friends to hold KIs for you).
Sure my solution requires Cruor or Gil to be spent but if either of those are a problem to obtain then focusing on an Emp weapon shouldn't be your first priority.
U can get the bugard item from chest, you lost your mind. We finished kannagi doing cleaves for the sole purpous of never having a time of the day that Sobeks pop NM's were'nt fricken camped up the ass
Screenshot of you getting out of a chest please, in over 80+ Sobeks from farming Gold Chests we've never ever gotten it.
We've gotten KI set for Fish, 2/3 (missing bat) for the Amhuluk, and 2/3 for Sobek (missing Minax). Considering I organize 3+ hour leech runs for my LS 1 to 2 times a week to collect KIs I'd imagine if it did actually drop I would have seen it by now at least once.
