What is the difference between Evasion skill and Evasion?

I have wondered this for a long time. I remember years ago reading something on Thief forums that 1 evasion skill = 2 evasion. By that rule, then one would think that they have to stack as much evasion skill as possible for their evasion setup. However, I've noticed the lack of evasion skill equipment additions in recent updates. Instead, there's a lot of equipment pieces that have evasion.

Could someone, somewhere give me a good explanation of the difference between one and another? What benefits do I get from stacking evasion alone. When should I stack evasion over evasion skill.

    Any input is greatly appreciated.

From that link, what is the difference between "Evasion from skill" and "Evasion Skill". Does Evasion from Skill mean the native skill for that job, including merits?

    Code:
Equation (Skill ≤ 200): Evasion from Skill = Evasion Skill
    Equation (Skill > 200): Evasion from Skill = floor( (Evasion Skill-200)×0.9 ) + 200
Evasion from Skill depends on your current Evasion Skill level, including merits.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but according to this data, after 200 skill, one should just stack up on Evasion? I mean, take Elusive earring (+5 evasion) and evasion earring (evasion skill +3) for example.

Elusive earring would equal to 5.5 Evasion skill, rounded down to 5 evasion skil. Correct?

You're doing the conversion backwards, I think, but otherwise yes. Evasion is compared to a monster's Accuracy, and Evasion Skill is just one of the factors of your Evasion total. So if you're comparing gear, it makes more sense to convert the stats from Evasion Skill to Evasion rather than Evasion to Evasion Skill.

Like: Evasion Earring = 2.7 Evasion after 200 skill, which is either going to be 2 or 3 evasion based on what your evasion skill was before you put it on. If your evasion skill ended in 3~9 before you put it on, then you would get 3 evasion from it. If it ended in 0~2, you would get 2 evasion from it. This is because of flooring.

Ah, awesome. Thanks for clarifying that out for me. I dont know why I have always believed that Evasion skill was better than evasion. Probably because it says so on ffxiah, lol. Either way, thanks again
