Question about Abyssea quests.

I still haven't really started Abyssea and I was planning on trying to catch up on it. However, I am confused about the quest line. The main quests basically tell you to go pop and kill a NM. You need key items to spawn it and this is where I'm confused. I'm reading that only one person in the party/alliance needs the key items to pop it. If I do not have the key items and someone else pops it, will I still get credit for completing the mission after defeating it, or do I need the key item to get credit?

Figured I better ask just in case I do need them and waste a bunch of time trying to join parties without them.

As long as you are in the party when the NM dies, and you are in exp range you'll get credit no matter who pops it.
