ffxi hardlocks my pc in windowed mode

anyone else had this problem? never really had any problems with ffxi before over lots of different pcs, but now after reinstalling after exactly an hour of play in windowed mode. the whole game will freeze including mouse cursor and the sound will continue in a single note, cant do anything except hold the power for 5 seconds to turn it off. doesn't seem to happen in full screen and doesnt seem to happen with any other far more demanding games, full screen or windowed. tried a few different drivers, no change tried in single card and crossfire. any ideas?
    thanks

Mine does something similar, although instead of continuing on a single note, my sound continues to play for about three or four seconds, before becoming distorted and slowing down immensely (probably about 75%-90% slowdown on the sound).

meh i was playing full screen last ight for like 6 hours and then the thing froze again, in the same manner. i then loged back in again full screen and it happened again after like half an hour. this is getting on my nerves. i still doubt its the pc per say if ffxi screws it up, while its using like 2% of my ram and cpu, surely things like heaven benchmark, crysis 2 and the like should screw it up much quicker

Can you give some more information on your hardware? I have run into some issues with AMD CPUs - lock ups and the like. Also, if it is a mulicore CPU, are you setting the affinity or letting it roll on all cores? It might help to lock its affinity to one core (and make sure it's a physical core, not a virtual in the case of hyperthreading).

thanks. though trying to go into the affinity settings in task manager for ffxi results in access denied. however the 10.12 drivers seem to fix the problem, seems strange if its a driver problem (crashes happen with every driver post 11.2) there isnt more people with the same issue.
    system specs are:
    asus p6t deluxe motherboard
i7 920co @3.2 ghz (tried resetiing overclock, didnt help
    6gb ddr3 ram @1333 ghz
    radeon 6950 x2 crossfire
    intel x25m 80g boot
    samsung spinpoint f3 1tb storage
