I think about the role of an "enmity manipulator" specialist job...and I can't think of a reason anyone would be happy about absolutely NEEDING a THF there to keep hate on the tank or else everyone dies.
On a monster hard enough to warrant this, you would have to make it so that a PLD could not hold hate on its own. I can't imagine any PLD, FINALLY being relevant for challenging endgame content again, being happy about his inability to hold hate without the help of a THF.
It would also have to mean that every other DD and mage would get their face raped and unable to do their respective jobs unless a THF was there to constantly/actively control the enmity situation.
I don't know a lot of people that would be happy about that....I sure wouldn't. This does not sound like a fun Vana'diel to me.
That aside, this is of course forgetting that anything even remotely close to resembling "enmity control" is IMPOSSIBLE with THF abilities in their current state. It would take, not only a drastic overhaul of current enmity abilties, but the addition of several new ones....all with recast timers much lower than anything we have ever seen.
Let's not kid ourselves about this.....that is never going to happen. Their idea of fixing collaborator and accomplice was to increase the range by 4 yalms. They feel aurasteal would be overpowered if seperated. Their "vision" for THF is that of a "stealthy pickpocket" but yet they don't want us to be able to actually steal anything of relevance.
This is really absurd....especially when we consider that they added ANOTHER useless steal ability (post 75) while saying they don't want us actually stealing items...I don't know what to say. That's nuts lol.
Their "vision" is in direct contradiction, not only with the climate, culture and playstyle of 2011 FFXI, but even with itself in various ways.
I really wish they would forget about "enmity control" and THF altogether. That road leads nowhere for me. I'd rather they gave us more utilies with "fattening our parties loot pools"....whatever that means to them.
Rework steal abilities to steal monster's loot, but put them into lottable treasure pools instead. More TH tweaks (or a TH potency increase). Make looting NM's, somehow active and tied to meleeing.....TH abiliites that cost TP? An ability akin to bounty shot that's only purpose is to attempt a forced TH proc.....something....anything.
I just wish they'd talk to us before they decide to make all these weak changes and add useless abilities. Because they really don't seem to know what goes on in the life of a THF in today's FFXI.
