I think it was one of the FFXIV interviews, the DEVs talk about how the Like button is the only way they can offset how rapidly people post about things they dislike and how seldom people post when they do (for fear of being flamed.) The Like button effectively offsets it because you can see how many people actually agree with a single positive post (a positive post may have 50 likes while there are like 15 really negative posts) -- this lets you know that sure, there are issues worth address, but there are also people who are satisfied.

The dislike button won't stop people from posting about things they dislike, because that negativity and anger will drive them to pressure the issue no matter what, so the dislike button would just skew the numbers in the favor of the negative sides.

Sorry about referencing the interviews, I forgot they are for FFXIV (same forum structure, though, so same basic principle) so you might not have seen them.

Thank you that information does help a lot. It changes my perspective on the matter. SE is also right, because I don't respond to some of the threads I would like to due to all the negativity. However, I do use the like button on the posts I think have merit within those threads.

You only have to look at Allakhazam's forum to see how bad an idea that would be. That high-school mentality does not need to be brought here.

What about instead of a dislike button, more of an "ignore thread" button. There are so many troll threads on here that could just be ignored and a button that would just stop them from showing up when you click the "new posts" button would be really nice. My 2 cents.

I don't want to be a jerk to anyone actually and never made such a post anywhere on this forum or any other. I am sorry if it came across that way. I probably wouldn't even use the button myself. I just thought it would be more polite than people constantly bashing each other for having an idea.

Sorry I haven't been to high school in several years, nor Allakhazam's forums. In fact, I typically do not hang out in forums, only came on these cause they are specifically for the game I play and I was told they had a lot of good info. It has been pointed out why it wasn't a good idea and I readily accept that. I really was just trying to help.

I would like to say that is a neat idea but the last time I shared my 2 gil it kinda blew up in my face, so doubtful I'll bother again. It really isn't worth the effort to try and think of something to improve...well anything at all here really. I love the game, so I'll spend my time enjoying it from now on. I'll read the posts from SE about updates, but other than that I see no point in this site anymore. Thanks for the response though.

I am sorry, I also liked your suggestion. I was a little frustrated last night *mix of issues IRL and then being called a jerk*, because (even though its not a such a good idea after all) I had an idea that I thought might help keep people from bashing each other so much. I actually will contiue to share my ideas, as should you and anyone else who has one. I just wish people would learn to be nicer to each other or not bother to respond. In retrospect, after one of the responders to my OP left me a link I did go read the link and it was a good reason not to implement the idea. I'm cool with that, after all it was just a thought.
