Regardless of how some people feel about them, security tokens are one of the greatest additions to the game. They let you keep your account secure, and you stress less when you typo your password. They give you the Mog Satchel. And most importantly, for people who are on the go, they're incredibly portable.

Yet there are people out there that feel they are a burden. Barring the loonies who think account security is not their problem to deal with, there are still people who would love to have them that don't. Whether this is because the store is out of them, or because people are worried they'll lose their security token, there are some people who are missing out on this. Sure, there's always going to be the people who feel that this is just an "extra unnecessary step" but let's ignore those people for now.

I was originally going to title this post "Security Token? There's not an App for that." Why not? Cell phones are becoming a more necessary item in today's world. Even I, who hates talking on the phone, carry one with me. I don't always have my laptop with me, but when I do, I know I can play FFXI on it. But I forgot my token at home!

There are many ways for phones to receive codes. You could have a way to send a text message, which is something that Paypal and Facebook do. You could have an app, which Google and Blizzard do. Google also has a thing you can print out for one-time use codes, in the event that you don't have your phone or it dies.

You don't even really need a phone for an app. You could get an app on an iPod.

You could say "But what happens if you lose your phone or it is stolen?" The same question comes with your security token, anyways.

This is just an idea based on the fact that I *can* play FFXI right now, but I left my security token at home. =( 7.5 hours to go and I am so missing some good NM camping opportunities.
