The REAL real problem with PLD

The REAL real problem with PLD is not gear, we get some pretty great gear, it's not DD capability even, Chant do Cygne, if you bother to get it, is an extremely good WS an can really dish out some good numbers both inside and outside of Abyssea. We don't need gear with more enmity on it, we've got more than enough. We don't really need much in the way of damage mitigation either, we've got that aplenty. We don't even need job abilities that generate more enmity or keep it from decaying as fast as SE seems to think we do.

the REAL problem with PLD and i hope SE is listening to this, it would make a first, is the enmity cap. Every job in the game caps enmity at the same amount. And lets face it, even the most pimped out PLD is probably not going to reach that cap faster than a badass DD laying the hurt on. When everyone caps enmity at the same amount the mob just bounces around between whoever happens to hit it next. THAT is the problem with PLD, and until something is done about the enmity cap and how enmity is calculated PLD is not going to be doing much real tanking.

What PLD REALLY needs is either a.) an ability that can regularly (every 15-30 seconds or so) lower the enmity of ALL other party/alliance members, or b.) a higher enmity cap than the rest of the jobs, either through job abilities, or traits, or whatever. Until that happens, there is nothing AT ALL that can "fix" PLD as a tanking job. No gear, no job abilities, no DD capabilities, no spells, no damage mitigation, no anything else will make PLD the top dog as a tank until the issue of the emnity cap is addressed.

That is the REAL real problem with PLD.

If you're listening SE, THIS is what PLD needs, not some job abilities that keep other party members from getting hit, not some ability that keeps enmity from decaying as fast, not some mediocre changes to an ability that was never practical to use, even in the old days (cover), or anything else. You need to change the fundamental way that enmity is calculated. THAT is the problem here.

Why would I want a Paladin to have hate when a Monk can have hate and take less damage, while doing more damage to the enemy just by having hate in the form of Counters?

That MNK did better tanking Jailer of Faith than PLD back at 75 too >.> pick the 1 and only event PLD excels at nice one. You know the new KCNM NM with the 2 Scorpions that's a joke with 2 MNK tanks...

In Dynamis and Limbus? Yes. Monk did. On sky gods? Depends on the god. Mnk/Nin could solidly handle most of them regardless.

Abyssea made it easier for crappy Monks to do what good Monks have always been able to do. That's all.

Oh what is it going to be next month when the level cap goes up? Oh right, not abyssea. Abyssea had a small life span in FFXI, there is alot more to FFXI then Abyssea. Always was, always will be.

Abyssea and the month after that probably still abyssea even after that the bulk of the community will likely still be in Abyssea catching up to the "hardcore" players.

Voidwatch was nice but how many people are doing it? A few and the items from it don't top Abyssea gear for the most part... What makes you think new content with the 95 will top Emp Weapons or Armor? How about what are the odds of having 180k-200k/hr EXP groups outside of Abyssea?

The Real real real problem with pld is 1) SE main focus is on abyssea or pushing similar ideas on old and "newish" content (seem like a good idea but it hurts pld tanking since they can't do as well as other dd at tanking and/or dding, which the atma really does enhance by a lot) 2) SE idea of what they turned this game into and what pld need to "do their job", the stuff they are adding now would of been great back when there was hope for pld tanking. I think at this point the only real fix is to either completely redo pld or how the other jobs work. Which for either case SE doesn't have the time, resource, or man power to do it.
