Urgent Help Needed

Ok, so i posted this in the technical forums yesterday, and ive got no repsonse from mods/se/tech support etc.. and was advised to maybe post in this forum for more people to see..

and yes i have emailed tech support through SE and still no reply 27 hours later... here are my posts from yesterday..

serious serious issue PLEASE HELP

i logged onto playonline this morning.. everything was ok until i got to the character selection screen, once id chose my character the screen went black to download info.. then the music crashed and the screen stayed black.. i tried this several times, but it would not go as far as this.. i checked my files using the file repair, it picked up on 2 corrupt files.. i went through the motions of repairing them, but alas, for some reason they couldnt be repaired.. and i had the pop up message saying i had to reinstall the game... (thanks SE)

so.. i have had to do a complete reinstall of the game hoping that i can get back online.. now when i reinstall the game (three times now) the first disc loads ok, when i put the second disc in it gets so far and sticks on the file that was corrupt..

now im stuck with nothing being able to load on my comp, i have no game files on my comp and no way of knowing if ill be able to play again !

i have tried to google some info but cant find anything..

can somebody please please help !

as it stands now my computer WILL NOT load my games discs so i have zero games files, no playonline on my computer...

and will not load past this file - rom\97\80.dat


** i m now on my 6th reinstall and nothing... ive mounted the discs on my PC and still nothing, so not only can i not install from disc, but no i cant install direct from PC

the uploading will NOT go past this file ! rom\97\80.dat

there are 2 .dat files left on my computer, which will NOT delete, this is the cause of the problem,

rom\97\82.dat

i have tried several ways of deleting these, in safe mode, using various programmes like hijack this etc to get rid.. but they just cause my system to crash.. even in safe mode..

i am using windows 7 and have never had an issue before, only today when the game would load after the character selection screen..

please please please help as it would be such a shame to waste 3 years of gameplay over a stupid issue like this !

so any help, advice would be so much appreciated becuase as it stands i have no way of playing ffxi again !

Have you scanned the disk for errors? (forget what the / switches are for Win7, but the same as /p /f in Windows XP). Do full disk checks until it doesn't find any errors. Hopefully that is all it is--weak sector or bad security descriptor or something.

if doing from command line, /F just tells it to fix errors--use the /R command try for bad sector recovery also (details on command line options at the bottom of that guide).

NOTE: run the check at LEAST twice for good measure (sometimes it will find errors on two seperate passes)

Try downloading Unlocker Assistant and delete w/ it.

tried using Unlocker mate, it just crashes my system when i select the corrupt rom\97\81 and \82.dat files !

Sounds like a hardware failure. Most likely a failing hard drive, possible bad stick of RAM. Not going to go into diagnostic specifics. Typical cost for this sort of repair averages about $200 for parts and labor. You'd want to backup your data asap, but keep in mind it's not worth moving files around until you find out if you're dealing with a RAM issue.
