1. chat does not use any bandwidth, it's text
2. just eliminate this feature. Implement multiple, configurable log windows and server-wide trade and invite channels. Otherwise don't waste your time.
yell should not be on unless someone turns it on. yell is pretty worthless till its fixed.
don't look at me for support, I want this thing turned on full-time, as I keep shout filter turned on as a default. I turn it off the VERY few times I actually want to see unsolicited garbage. The rest of the time I leave the filter in place so I don't have to see what spews from the various sphincters into area chat.
probably- they said they're analyzing it before the expand the area linking to other places.
I'm hopeful that they will improve this, because right now chances are peoplea ren't going to use it and it wont have an effect on server load because it wont be used.
Um, do you understand what I'm saying here?
If you turn the filter on it stays on. if you turn it off, it stays off. Like any other chat filter. You can have it turned on full time all you want. I can have it turned off full time all I want. Everybody is happy.
Right now, whether you want it on or not, it's on whenever you log in. That's not how it should be. It should be on if you want it on, and off if you want it off. Permanently, until you choose to change it.
Chat does use bandwidth. And remove it? people have been asking for this for a long time. Multiple log windows is a completely seperate topic (and I agree it should be implemented). you're effectively multiplying these chat messages over four areas and to every person in those areas. It is a significant load increase when you're dealing with hundreds to thousands of people.1. chat does not use any bandwidth, it's text
They put this in because we asked for it. Now everyone wants it gone? It's here already. It's not going to be removed, and if it isnt used then it doesnt hurt server load and doesn't need to be removed.

I wonder if FFXI chat uses a "seperate server" like FFXIV.
I think it should just be saved to on or off depending which you last switched it to when you log off and on. I noticed that the /yell doesn't always let your message go through right away so there seems to be some sort of waiting period before you can retype again on it, which is good to prevent spammers in it.
you know 'on' means 'the chat is filtered' right?just so we're on the same page.
