When last asked about PvP, the answer was nothing was in the works as this is primarily a PvE game. I'll try to dig up the answer for you.

The most popular jobs in XI right now are WAR, WHM, BLM, NIN, MNK and to a lesser extent BLU.

WAR/NIN/MNK rely on getting close to deal damage which is a death sentence in PvP.

A BLU can dismantle you before you can engage, any crowd control job can basically own your ability to do anything and you're easily steamrolled by nukes.

WAR/NIN/MNK may be the best DD in Abyssea but in Ballista they are easy pickings for many other classes.

WHM has a diminished capacity in PvP as Cure IV is more than enough to keep individuals alive and enmity means squat. In a team battle you might still want one but any other individual with MP and /WHM can fill your role.

Jobs like BLU PLD, DRK, RNG, SMN, RDM are more Ballista-ready because they have tools to trip up individuals, stay alive longer and are more hardy.

I consider PvP anything from 1v1 which could never be balanced to team vs team where the current flavor of the month jobs would be in short supply.
