"Bonds that never die" quest freezes

Steps:
1. Was working on the Wings of the Goddess quest 'Bonds that never die"
2. Went to and cleared the battlefield
3. Had the ensuing cutscene in jugner forest [s]
4. Returned to San d'Oria [s]
5. Talked to Rongelouts N Distaud to finish the quest
6. During the ensuing cutscene, when the sand hits excenmille and the screen starts to turn white, the game cuts out and goes black. This is not your typical cutscene fadeout, it's as if the PS2 just cuts out.
7. Trying to do the cutscene again yields the same results at the same spot. I wait for it to respond for several minutes and it doesn't. I check the files, and they are all fine
