Additional Privacy/Chat Filter settings?

I'm not sure if this is really in demand among other players or not - but I would like it if there was a few changes to the /online, /away, /invisible system.

I would like a way to go "invisible" in game, to prevent being searched and receiving tells from people outside my linkshell or party. Kind of like a "I'm busy" type of mode.

Regarding blacklist - it's a bit touchy, but adding a "you are unable to send a tell to that player" message might be a good idea. My logic is, I don't care if someone knows I blacklisted them, but I've had people assume they're blacklisted because I didn't reply to their tells while I was being chased by Tunga...

Basically, I'd like ways other than blacklist to determine who can and can't message me at any given time... and preferably a way to prevent people from seeing if I'm online or not via search.

Anyone else, or am I alone on this?

I would support this. The online away and invisible are all on the friend list menu. These dont let other people not on your friends list that you are not there. The blacklist messages is also a good idea. Ive had people ask me if I could ask other people if they have been blacklisted because they were not sure if they had been or not.

Yeah there was a "/busy" mode a long time ago. And /blacklist is only to be used in extreme cases... like harassment. Why would people assume you /blacklisted them? Especially since /blacklisting them prevents you from seeing ANYTHING they say public or private (regardless if it's /say, /tell, /party etc).

/away is still an option, for blacklist i still think SE took the right choice, send back "you are unable to send a tell to that player" would probably cause just more frustration in the game.

It would confuse people more then anything, i like to /sea "abyssea - altepa" before heading there, so if the zone already too packed i just go to another zone.

I agree, and /Ghost is a pretty good idea. Like you though, I like to do a /sea all for certain zones before heading out, so who knows.

yes is not a total bad idea, SE can always do result look like this: 0 people found and 16 invisible in current area.

Why would people assume you /blacklisted them?

Probably because I don't answer annoying /tells when I'm doing whatever random event. Heck, if the /tell is annoying enough, I won't answer even if I'm sitting in my mog house. A scenario might go as follows...

Lovestosplooge: hi m8 i have a ?
Lovestosplooge: wats better 4 vicory smite kirin osode or destroyers
Lovestosplooge: hallo?
Lovestosplooge: m8?
Lovestosplooge: am i blacklisted?

I just seem to be a magnet for every creed, crux or clan of deficient dimwits ever to play this game. This includes:

- The people who /check me, then start leveling MNK... and send me tells about how they're leveling MNK because of me. It gets annoying when these people realize they will never get a Black Belt, Verethragna, or any +2 gear, and they start sending really psycho tells... "I had Rani... so close... then those idiots... those STUPID IDIOTS.... stole her... and brewed it down.... I'll never get a ring now"... Yes, this has happened before... many times, covering many situations such as Adamantoise, Promathia, broken static parties, Morbolger, King Behemoth and even the AF legs NM. When they go on the psycho "I almost had it" rant, I just remember the Sephiroth "those fools... are trying to take the planet away from mother" cutscene and don't want to talk to them any more.

- The people who have the vocabulary of Joachim (the Abyssea NPC) and type it in short hand. See the above example of people calling me "m8" (mate). They usually ask dumb/irrelevant questions about equipment. Or things I wouldn't know about at all without looking it up anyway... "hay m8 wots the best wpn 4 a res para build on cor"

- The girls who think flooding my inbox with cookies, fireworks and signed subligar constitutes anything resembling an actual meaningful relationship. The obsessive behavior is analogous to a cat in heat with the tells, the zone stalking (being followed to abyssea, be hunted down in Jeuno, etc) - and getting peppered with names like "sweetie", "baby", "sexy", "cutie", and when I don't reciprocate "What's wrong, bad day?" Happened a few times now. Usually starts by helping randoms, or answering a simple question. It boggles my mind. It happened to someone else I know once too. Not exactly why I play FFXI.

So yeah, I'd be happy to "not exist" to the rest of the server outside of my linkshell probably 90-95% of the time.

Tell them to shut up or just blist them if people keep bothering you with silly questions? as for girls being all over you...um yeah that usually only happens when you lead people on or flirt with them then get bored of it. If you don't want them to act that way to you don't lead them on or say straight up your not interested.

I can't see them adding this ever, if they cared to that degree for peoples privacy they would of not just added a forced account linking feature to this forum.

As a linkshell leader, I understand the need to be invisible some of the time. I love to help people but I also like quiet me time.
