Weapon / magic skill up experiences since abyssea

Sorry if there is another thread like this!

But anyways, I know recently the rate of skill ups and exp has been boosted but everything seems to take about the same time to cap as it used to before the update.

Recently I've been leveling my DRK and during leveling up I noticed that my weapons were... lacking, especially since reaching 75+ (180 scythe and 80 greatsword) and that there are not many people to party with outside of low level areas.

Before abyssea I remember leveling my samurai and dragoon and I didn't really need skilling up when I had reached level cap so at the moment it seems like I'm going to be smacking crabs with my weapons for about a week before I'm able to hit monsters in abyssea, which is another issue. Why did SE allow level 30+ to enter abyssea?
There are a tonne of people that leech their jobs there which makes it harder for people to level normally. I think I've had around 5 parties in total outside of qufim island in total.

Not meaning to be negative within this post, the EXP and skillup update was an awesome idea but it feels as if I'm leveling the weapon instead of the job!
Is there anyone else that's had similar problems or is it just the fact I'm leveling drk?

Leveling up instantly then skilling weapons is still much faster overall than the old way.

true, I shouldn't have worded it how I did. But I meant it's weird that it goes out of sync that bad, even leveling outside of abyssea. Skilling up is a pain in the butt

DRK is kinda screwy that way for some reason, may be in large part to the crappy delays on scythe compounding things. you have to pay closer attention to the levels of your targets with scythe--try to avoid picking something that spawns more then +/- 4 or 5 levels to your current skill cap level. Depending on the target, you may find you'll have to adjust that a little, but that is generally a good place to start. I liked using crabs a lot becuase they last a good while, and you know you can grab hp/mp off them easily too.

The idea is to keep all your spawns checking DC+ but still having the stats to give you a better chance of skillup so you can take advantage of the DC skillup tweak. For example, you are at 180 skill, that puts you in the middle of the 55/56 range, so you want to avoid anything that can potentially spawn below 50 for certain. Depending on the target's stats (evasion/defense) against yours (ACC/ATT), you may want to bump up the level a bit. Crabs in SSG spawn 53-58, so this could be a good spot to try--lots of targets. That is an interesting zone in general--it has things bracketed nicely to take you a long way in skillups if you can open the doors to get to them.

Another thing to watch out for is gear/food that is overpowering your stats. I remember having to strip down my gears gradually when skilling up in sky. Was odd running around basically naked up there in the end, but I was able to get a few jobs to around 290+ up there pretty easily that way.
