Link to forums.

Does anyone else wish that there was just a link in the "Developer's Room" for Playonline? It's kind of a pain to have to open my browser and type the URL constantly in order to get to the forums. Anyone that's ever had their credit card declined knows that there's a link to Visa or Mastercard but when it comes to the updates we're still in the 20th century?

use shortcut to open your bookmarks, hit first letter of your shortcut or folder you put it in... etc. It's not much effort.

ALT-A, f, f, right arrow, up arrow, <enter> and I'm on English Forums. Takes me less time/effort than it does to load a page and scroll to a link on this old P4 laptop that was made almost 3 years ago (in other words, it's pretty slow at times).

If it's on your desktop, you can actually make a short-cut key combo to that shortcut...minimize your browser and hit <CTR>-<SHIFT>-f and bam... forum is loading.

Alternatively, you could put the shortcut directly on your start menu even. <CTRL>-<ESC> (or windows key if it's on your keyboard) opens start menu, hit first letter of the shortcuts there and it jumps through them also.

Or (and this is just a thought), how about NOT requiring the use of the shiny new toy? Dual-post on PoL and the forums, or outline the update for a general idea in PoL while full details are posted here. All-in-all, it is rather inconvenient to minimize PoL, use my bookmark, scan for the update notes, double-check it is the real notes and not player responses, and finally read it. All just before I get sucked into reading the forums for 3 hours and end up not logging in FFXI at all.

agreed.. there were some other threads of this thought a while back. Kinda miss the write-ups they used to do on POL.. now it's just.. "Updates posted... see the following link for details"....

{Yes, please.} I wish I could just click on the link in the viewer, and it would take me to the update notes page in whatever default browser I have set.

It's not a matter of getting to the forums that's easy. It's just that most of the time I see the updates after I log into the game. I shouldn't have to minimize that and open folders to find shortcuts to the forum so I can then try to navigate this hell of a website and find the correct Dev Tag and then start reading it when they could just implement a link and *poof* I'm there.

So go to Playonline.com as you did in the past and click the link there when updates happen. It takes you directly to update threads.

Why was that even necessary to begin with? SE should -want- us to see the update notes. So the update notes should be available through PlayOnline viewer, or the link should actually be clickable so that it will take us directly to the thread. I myself still have to sift through each of those forums.

You're missing the point entirely. What's the purpose of announcing that new stuff is in progress in the PlayOnline viewer but then doesn't tell you the details in the PlayOnline viewer?

I hope the bold lettering helps you understand what I'm getting at. This is just another inconsistency, an inconvenience, that SE has planted all throughout everything related to FFXI. Ideally, you should be able to view the details of the new stuff coming in the PlayOnline Viewer.

They might as well not even announce anything on the viewer. I'm better off just checking updates at the link you recommended me.

Have to admit though, it is kinda cheezy for them to not at least just copy/paste the post from the forums into the Playonline news posts--they used to provide us the details in the PlayOnline news updates.

Another thing that annoys me is when you log into POL to play and you get the little update notices--pull up the message and it gives you the link to the forum post, but it isn't clickable. Would be nice if you could at least click the freaking link so it opens your default browser so you could check it out before you launch the game. Or better yet....just copy/paste the bleeding details into the POL notice like they used to. As it is now, you either have to to copy the text manually and open a browser to go to it, or go hunt it down through the forums or Playonline.com (which just redirect you to the freaking forum post with the same link).

It is indeed much faster just opening chrome and checking on the pol site rather than reading the updates in pol viewer. That thing is so slow I wish they could just scrap it.

Anyone that's ever had their credit card declined knows that they can do it for the Visa or Mastercard websites. Of course when it comes to giving them money they'll give you shortcuts.
