Dev Suggestion: BST pets unable to maintain claim on a mob

There's a group of players in the game that are truly all about the solo aspect of BST.

I, personally, love to solo and have been a solo artist for well into 7 years of my game play.

It seems if we allow our pets to fight mobs and heel them there's a good chance the mob will go unclaimed and if someone else wants that mob bad enough they'll take it from you.

Ie: King B was up and I threw a sheep at him. I got claim and was fighting him for a good 5-7 mins. I turned and put distance between my pet and myself and heeled my sheep to me so i could setup for a "Ready" and a jug switch.

There were two other people who walked up next to were I was and were watching. When I heeled my pet and pulled King B closer to me he went green and the Ninja snagged him within a second.

Another example, Serket, I got claim and there wasn't a person in the zone. I just let my pet fight it and got him down to 10% and decided to pull him close to a door so when he died I could just leave. When I heeled my pet and pulled Serket closer he went green and a party just had arrived and was leveling off beetles took claim on "accident" the leader said and killed the mob.

BST losing claim on mobs is very very common for those who solo. We spin mobs and use our pets in strat methods only to have them go green on random occasions costing us our time and our effort.

Another thing I would love to see is maybe a "Pet Focus" for our pets so when we send them after a mob it actually stays on that mob rather then spinning around attack anything that hits it. I've had my Pet run off across the zone after an AoE from a NM that wasn't even in my party.

The whole "it's fair game if it's yellow" thing needs to stop.

If it's clear that you already have agg on the monster, it should be yours until you no longer wish to do it.

This happens on BST, BLM, and all this necro-killsteal crap you now see in Abyssea all the time.

I never have seemed to have this problem with BST for now, but I have been leveling PUP lately and it seems if I do not attack first my automaton wont have claim over the mob even though it is fighting and casting on it. I have had exp mob stolen from me @ 75% because of this.

Yeah my recent one was Frogmander. Someone actually walked up at 15% and not sure what happened as I did not heel the pet and it went green and the person snagged it.

It happens though NM or just normal exp mobs and it gets annoying.

i was skilling up in Sea on the Dolphins ( I hate trying to remember what they are called )

I was casting all kinds of enfeebs on them and i noticed something i spent 45 mins casting on one dolphin and the moment i went past 10 seconds of not casting something it went green. However, if I casted Flash 1 time on the mob it stayed claimed for a long time

I might start doing that until they get the hate system fixed.

The "Pet Focus" idea is great for preventing your pet from going rogue and attacking all of creation. In the past, I've had difficulty with BST in group events such as dynamis due to the pet at some point randomly hitting a sleeping enemy that had previously hit the jugpet with an AoE. Of course, any "Pet Focus" should be a job ability versus an automatic set job trait as there are situations, like low level farming, you may want your pet attacking enemies aimlessly without having to command it to fight over and over again.

i solo on bst alot and im also finding it frustrating in abyssea areas with others claiming my mobs due to this

SE has already announced they were going to change how claims worked. In fact I thought they already did for some instances.

I do admit it has been frustrating for me as well having mobs stolen and I've just chalked it up to part of the game. What bothered me more then it going yellow is that there's almost no hate fight between the players pets just lose. If I was on any job that directly attacks the monster we fight over hate till someone finally wins but this doesn't happen with pets people just steal the mobs. I like the aspect of fighting because generally I win and the other people knock off a few % to help me out every little bit counts. :)

My best story was a smn and rng stole my mob they actually won and got claim but they couldn't duo the mob well so eventually wiped while i was resting and recovering from the hate battle. When the mob came back it was down an extra 40% so easy win. :)

It would be nice thou that once you establish hate and turn it red it's yours for sure. I've had people watch me solo a mob for 45 min get it down to 1% then toss out a nuke when it goes yellow and kill it on me while I was changing pets. :(

I solo alot on bst/whm a eazy way to avoid losing claim on something is stick it with dia or a simiar form of a DoT. Then you can move yourpet away and do what not even snarl your pet if you get hate.
A revamped system would remove the need of always spaming dia on them though I agree for when you move your pet or lose it. Until that update I would just recommend sticking dia on it always if u bst/whm.

Atleast it doesn't for me. I've had luck with Flash but never with Dia.

A long time ago I used to solo worms with smn.. and used Dia a lot but now a days it seems they have removed the amount of hate you get from it so when your pet is pulled off it goes green

Hmm I have no problems with the mob turning yellow or losing claim doing this. I will test it again when the servers are up and repost

Don`t think they changed enmity on dia, I think they raised the amount of enmity you need on a mob before it will be claimed.

I've had the same issue on any job trying to spam spells, pull pet off and it's still yellow even after Feral Howl/Provoke/Flash w/e. They could fix it by simply allowing the mob to stay claimed for about 20 seconds after all hate is removed, this will still allow others to jump in if a group wipes and can't take the mob, or allow us BST's to keep at it while we're swapping pets. (not that I've had to charm anything since aby came out. >.<)

I always keep DoTs on NMs Helixes and Dia/Bio and while it was still in effect mobs can still become Unclaimed. I witnessed this on Irathem, Rani and Chloris and several other NMs.

It's also complete and utter bullshit when you've done 80% of the mobs HP, have full hate, yet some asshole is able to run up and hit it twice and get claim. While it's still hitting you. -_-

ok heres my test.... i lost hate with out doing it when I switched pets normaly. Sticking dia 2 I never lost hate from my accounts. Id recomend sticking Dia2 on it all times to help this issue till is addressed.

No it doesn't. Half the people who argue this are told time and again by GMs if it's yellow it's fair game. End of story.

Basically we need

#1 the pet to only atk wat its told so we can maintain claim on a NM in the midst of links

#2 If your pet fights 1 monster while you fight another monster they flash back and forth claimed/unclaimed. This needs to be fixed. We are a pet job. We get 2 toons. Give us the benefit that comes from that in regards to holding claim on 2 things.

P.S. as far as losing claim on a pet swap. never had it happen to me. I have used heel and stay b4 duing an NM fight and had the NM just decide to go yellow for no reason even tho its still hitting the pet. That shouldnt happen =/

My claims are all about time. If you're killing it at a reasonable speed, or its low enough to where even the speed you're fighting it at is going to be a quick death, then I won't touch it.

If I have to sit there and wait 30+ mins for either a ToD or for a ??? to repop, then yea, sorry, if you can't maintain claim, you can start your 30 mins over when I'm done.

Why on earth would you waste half an hour standing around like a slack jawed yokel waiting for someone to kill a mob? Surely you have other things to do?

Not at the moment. I'll use Dragua for example since its the only thing relevant atm to my situation. I'm working on stage 90 Vereth, other than that, I have everything I want for my mnk. When I log on, I work on scales, then log off. A group of gimps pop it and its not like "well, I don't have this item yet, I'll go work on that and come back". That being said, if you're taking 30 mins to kill the damn thing, and it goes yellow, every man for himself.

because he is really hoping for a chance to steal the mob. thats the real goal.

Sorry about my first post, when I saw the topic I jumped the gun because I seen a lot of bsts try to hold 2 mobs. while doing this 2 mob thing, attacking one having the pet on the other both mobs will go yellow back and forth.

NM staying claimed is a general issue ( mabye harder with bsts) but I do find it dumb that say your tank dies, mob goes yellow even though other people have hate.

Well log off then? Don't know why people insist on making muppets of themselves hanging around like hoboes at popped NM's and then trying to justify it when they screw people over.

It has nothing to do with justification. Why? because I don't really care what anyone thinks. I'm impatient. If you're taking a long time, and the opportunity presents itself, I'm going to take it, period.

I'm not saying it's the right thing to do or justify it in any way. I'm just telling it how it is. Kill it faster next time and you won't have to worry about me taking it. Or do a better job at keeping claim. Nothing says I have to work around your job's flaws and inabilities to keep claim.

Yadda yadda yadda. Same olde post really. All I see is a massive sense of self entitlement.

I do have to wonder if you're gonna quit once you're done with your H2H, seeing as you have absolutely NOTHING else to do in game anymore apart from have tea parties while other people pop NMs.

I love having tea parties. Do you have crumpets to go with that?

I don't mind a good crumpet at all, especially if it's coated with butter and Vegemite.

I hate that name, people used to call me that in game.

this pet claim problem really irked me today. bst set pet on azdaja and got aggro from skele... set pet on skele too. azdaja went yellow w/ several of us trying to reestablish our claim.

Japanese Ls stole azdaja from us right at spawn pretty much. It was very aggravating.

Today was helping someone farm BST Seals. Kheron is a joke and all of a sudden my pet turns and just bolts away. He goes so far that he's out of my range to see his health on my status.

Kheron goes yellow and a person standing there takes him. I am curious where my pet went and did a heel and he brought back a skeleton that I didn't even attack.

I've had that happen on Kharon before. It happened after Kharon died, my pet woudl run off to fight another skele. somehow it got on the hate list. I don't know how some random skele got hate in the first place, but it looks like yours got greater hate on pet than Kharon did. I've never had that happen.

The pet focus idea is a great idea.

I have noticed the strange pet behavior before as well.. I don't know why but sometimes my jugpet will go off and do its own thing..

Like I was soloing the bomb NM in vunkernl ... no aggro or anything.. after the NM dies my jugpet shoots off the screen.. and starts attacking bombs on his own...

I had no previous hate on them either..

It's happened a few times.. maybe 3 or 4 on NM's / Zones.. and im not exactly sure what causes it...

I also had that in Abyssea - Attohwa, was killing Eft's and for some reason my pet then went and attacked EVERY single Eft on the map.
