[dev1009] New Trigger Conditions for Notorious Monsters (Questions regarding new HNM)

To foxyclon and the devs,

I am curious about one thing. It's nice to see you guy's are making things casual and toning down pop timer for NMs but will FFXI ever see world spawned NM/HNMs again?

You guys are pretty much taking away what little there already is to camp and I'm very curious if in the future you guys are considering adding new world spawns outside the instanced measure for people who enjoy camping NM/HNMs.I'd like to know what your plans are regarding this. There is a base of people who do enjoy camping and would like to see more introduced.

I approve of this thread and the questions in it. Would like some answers too.

I kinda figured this might happen, at least now it gives us stuff outside abyssea to do. My assessment of this situation is this: kill off the # of old HNM to camp to make room for the new world spawns that are comming. But yea, id love to see a dev say "Yes, there will be new world spawns (21hr+ or longer)" or "No, were not doing that anymore" at this point they already know the answer, id imagine at 99 they would add at least 1 or 2.

I know you devs will look through this thread and I would appreciate a response regarding my question in the op^^

Natenn wasn't specific. I am very curous about the camping aspect of ffxi. Although there is/was a lot of issues with it, as you can see with responses regarding the changes, I'm interested in seeing what they have in store for for campers/hunters. It was a huge part of the game, one that was enjoyed not just by jerks. Notorious monsters/campers was a huge player base, not just for HNMs either. It was fun. I don't want this turning into another ANTI HNM thing. This is not about that.

There is going to be complaining/unhappiness with anything and everything they do, you can't make everyone happy. People still complained about kings even after odin was released and einherjar was gimped/toned down. If people want to complain, theres lots of threads for that. I'm interested (and others as well) in if SE will introduce new NMs/HNMs to keep campers and world spawners busy and happy. It's quite clear they have a dedicated team targeting the less competitive player base, and thats nice. I'm happy for them and im sure whatever they add, even if it is world spawns that require hours/days of camping, they will add alternate means or some other measure to ensure they get a chance at the gear.

The days of gear being exclusive to camping world spawns is over. That is a fact, but killing the camping aspect and world spawns or not adding new ones that are worthwhile to campers as a whole would be dissapointing to me and others.


Honestly, they could just make them drop a fair amount of gil and i'd have fun just camping the rare monster.

I don't understand why they are getting completely rid of the nm spawn timer method. I might not have the time to do the 21-24 hour timed spawns or the timed spawns like Khimaira and Tiamat, but those were extremely fun when I did have the time. You get the competition from other linkshells and fighting them was almost always fun. Nms don't have to have that long of a timer, but there could definitely be mid-tier level nms that pop every few hours or something. Going to a pop method only for Nms is extremely boring, and it takes the entire fun out of exploring and going through zones. There are people who whine about timed nms, but there are a lot more people who are against just going to a completely pop oriented method for ffxi. Why can't there just be a balance between the two? First it was basically all timed nms and now heading towards popping nms only. Balance, yes please.

I approve, If killing off the 3 kings to make room for the new HNM is the plan then that would be awesome. I love camping HNMs and I hope the "new HNMs" won't be this trade a pop to a "???" system.

I agree with what's posted in most of this thread. Can we get a definitive answer on whether or not the HNM community will be catered for in future updates? The last time a 'timed HNM' was added to the game was Dark Ixion and Sandworm.

While there are many who choose not to participate in this content, there are still those consumers that do. Informing us as to whether we'll get any new timed HNM in the future isn't asking much.

i agree the end game no competition / camps might be what drives the game into the ground now... hope they fix 14 first or their days are numbered with final fantasy :(

This interests me as well, I am someone who enjoys competition yet now there is very little I remember a couple interviews from a long time ago stating there was choices, that some liked to camp, that like a challenge and not to look cookie cutter.

People have choices now, and while it may be hard to believe, there are people out there who like to camp these things for hours on end. Before people would have to camp whether they liked it or not. But now people have a choice; people that want to camp can also camp, but they can also go to Einherjar or such. We give people the choice to let them choose, even if they like to camp for five hours."

I wonder if they will ever bring back something they used to understand was something at least some people enjoyed. They used to offer choice for everyone Kings if you wanted to camp, ein if you were in a big LS but didn't want to camp, salvage if you were a low man group, where is the choice now? Seems all they want is casual stuff which has quickly lost a lot of peoples interest who were into the end game scene (and I dont just mean camping) my LS dropping from 16-18 down to barely a party sometimes due to people exiting the game because what they enjoyed doing was gone.

Perhaps those Kindred and H. Kindred Crest stores, lol, anyway i don't want dynamis to be an open area. And regarding the main post, I think it's funnier to camp a NM, but as the time has passed many features of the game has changed and I want to believe this is for a good reason that SE is doing this (perhaps they are planning new NM with timed spawns on that zones with a higher lvl), anyway, more that disscusing i'd like to know why they are doing this and know as well if we will see more Timed Spawn NM....as everybody in this thread, lol

The problem is: We are getting less choices, I remember the times when looking a player with a Relic Armor (a single piece or a full set) was like WTF!!1 look at him/her!, seeing someone with an Abjuration was even better, as well with assault, salvage and other armors, because we had choices, now we are lacking of them, with next update, players will be able to do Dynamis everyday, whenever they want, we will see players starting to farm these items to pop the NM (well at least we are outside abyssea, lol), and thus, getting lots of armors, materials, etc that used to be a reason of being proud... now scattered everywhere... T.T (i think that at least if it keeps people outside abyssea is less worse than I imagine, lol)

Foxclon! I know you and the devs are lurkin! Come on, give us some idea of the balance/plans for the future regarding HNMs. No one wants the game to reolve around certain HNMs, but couldn't you just pull another odin/kings type thing? Give campers the long spawns and give the BCNMs to casual people? And will you be adding new lower NMs? Something fun for lowbie stuff would be cool.

The interesting part of this is: "They are reading our posts and they are not giving us any clarifycations", lol and i doubt they'll do it

"The hardcore" (we'll refer to them as such in order to save time) are complaining about too much casual content. And in the past, "the casuals" (also referring them as such to save time) complained about hardcore content such as Ground Kings.

In reality, you're not going to hear the end of it from one side or another.

There will always be SOME amount of complaints from "the hardcore" about the casuals "just being noobs cuz they can't kill K.Behemoth"

And there will always be SOME amount of complaints from "the casuals" about the hardcore "being pampered with all the endgame content, I don't have the time for!"

How to make balance is this. (Please read this, 'cause I actually think there is some valid points in here)

Let's go back to Endgame 75 for a moment. We had events like Ground Kings (hardcore) Einherjar, Salvage, Sea, Sky (mediocre hardcore) Limbus, Dynamis, Nyzul Isle (mediocre casual) and Campaign and Leveling Up (casual)

The problem here is that, the most "hardcore events" yielded the most powerful rewards. And it wasn't even close to comparison. The casuals who were being left out of "hardcore events" were denied a ton of cool equipment. But there IS a solution to this problem.

My solution is this.

Keep events like Ground Kings for the "hardcores", BUT make event's like Abyssea that exists side-by-side for the casuals. All the while you can keep events that are similar to Nyzul Isle and Limbus for the "mediocre" players who enjoy a bit of a challenge, that is also casual at the same time.

But what you do with rewards is this. You make all the rewards from each of these play areas Equal BUT at the same time Different. They will be all Equally powerful, but just have different stats that play differently from each other.

Example: From events that are "Hardcore" you have a Bow that has Ranged Attack with AGI, and from events that are "Casual" you have a Bow that has Ranged Accuracy with STR. (of course this is just a rough example to show the basic idea of what I'm trying to point out)

If this happened. You will still hear complaints from both sides, but not as much as you would if there was no equal catering such as the example given above. "The hardcore" will still complain about "the casuals" being able to get awesome gear from stuff they think isn't very difficult. And "the casuals" will complain about not being able to get awesome gear from stuff they think, requires too much time and effort than they can afford to put into a game.

But the plus side to all this would be, that "the hardcore" will still be able to do "casual content" and experience the game the way they want to AND "the casuals" will be able to be geared enough from doing "the casual events", so that IF they decided to try out a "hardcore event" they would be able to do so.

Hope that wasn't confusing. And let me know what you think of this idea.
