Please Update the Campaign

Hopefully FFXI devs read these posts. I wanted to make a list of update changes that Campaign desperately needs. I am pretty much the only player on the Lakshmi server still loving and participating in campaign to try and push to the north, but it is still very difficult to do it alone. I am definitely the only player that still tries to enlist freelancers.

-Please reduce the amount of influence needed to influence Freelancers to join your nation. It can take 2 - 3 hours of influencing a freelancer with no allegiance (who is far away from a zone) to join if he/she has 0 influence for your nation

-Please take out the requirement to zone for continuing to influence freelancers

-PLEASE ADD THE ABILITY TO INFLUENCE BEASTMEN FREELANCERS

-Please add capacity points as a reward alongside the experience points

-Please allow AOE party-buffs to affect Allied Nation NPCs during campaign (bard songs, protectra, curaga, etc.)

-Possibly give a slight power boost to the allied nation NPCs

If anything I request here makes it sound like it'll be too easy for the allied nation to win, it won't. I've recruited every freelancer for my nation at one point and they still couldn't hold the northern bases without player support. The allied nations die so easily to the northern beastmen tribes also.

Adding capacity point rewards will give much more player support back to this content in my honest opinion, so I hope that's not too much of a request to make.

Maybe add some RoE related tasks that focus on Campaign battle too. To give people an additional incentive.

They should also go and raise up EXP / Allied Notes calculations from any all actions and raise the total amount gained per tag assessment. Years back, they drastically nerfed EXP / Allied notes caculations from any actions because they worried about some people doing actions away from the battle and stuff. They should of undone at least some of the nerf and gave more allied notes. Considering Ilvl people now killing mobs too fast, this poses a problem because of the way calculations work for EXP and allied notes. At the time Campaign battles were an alternative for gaining EXP outside of party camps, but they didn't want people to rely on only that as a main source of exp so they nerfed it. I also understand how campaign Ops would provide other sources of exp and allied notes, but Campaign battles were the main thing

I believe it's time capped, so you can only earn so much EXP/AN per min(s) or whatever the time cap is.. Going in and AOE'ing the whole crowd wouldn't achieve much at all.

I remember the 'people doing stuff outside of battle' thing - typically there were a bunch of bards standing by the NPC spamming songs and not engaging in battle.

Yes time capped. From the moment you get allied tags, you hardly get any reward from until some time has passed. So even if you did some stuff, you only get limited Exp/AN until some time has passed to get more. I think what you can do is just get allied tags then wait a while before attacking mobs and stuff. So like the whole threshold of actions towards EXP/AN goes up over time from the moment you get tags until it hits the overall cap depending on your medals, but I'm not sure exactly how many minutes does the threshold hit the cap from different actions

I absolutely agree with raising the experience too. With the highest medal, each average length battle caps you at 9k exp/5k notes. Thats not even... 1/3 of what you can make per hour killing mobs in the Adoulin content. Oh man, when campaign was first introduced I remember people were just skilling up on the fortifications without getting the tags, and they took that away also lol. In a sadistic sense, I enjoy being the only player roaming the campaign at times and controlling the flow of the region map, but I cannot take the castle by myself unless I had the gameplay time like I used to have back in 2004. So a couple of other players would be nice.

Well, whatever team works on game content updates. Its for them obviously.

Ugh.. so Shiyo has been posting about his/her issue for a while now? Then the odds even campaign getting a nice update is slim to none... :(

It took 4 years for GEO to finally get "corrected" don't forget.

Damn.. I signed up on these forums just to try and make my voice heard because for years I just logged on for the free log on campaign and just did... campaign lol. Now I have extra time and i've resubbed and been enjoying the new stuff. My next question was going to be if there was ANY other platform or technical support team we could contact to make any complaints/suggestions to, but it seems you've already dug down that rabbit hole Shiyo. I'm not familiar at all with end-game content but I am assuming you want to make it soloable now?

Also Halley, do you know if GEO buffs affect allied nation NPCs in campaign??

Um.... I actually have no idea, lol I've never even considered going anything that wasn't DD to campaign battles lol. If I had to guess I would say no, because Geo effects only work on party members, and enemies. But I am not certain.

And I agree with everything you said influencing NPC is an absolute tedious time consuming chore. There was one point where I was just doing campaign related things and had almost every freelance possible and that took me 2 weeks to get them because zoning took so much time.

Is it me or is rongo-nango in the taru bst unrecruit-able ? He never accepts any of the bst jugs I give him haven't had him in windurst yet and been trying for over a year.

Yes! More Campaigners! I have literally never met anyone that actively tried to recruit freelancers before, even when WoG was first released because it's SO tedious and not directly rewarding to players. Rongo-nango is probably the easiest freelancer I always recruit lol because hes usually right next to a zone in Fort Karugo-Narugo. I buy Carrot Broth jugs from Ferdoulemiont in South Sandy and they work just fine being traded to him. Azima used to be the only freelance I couldn't recruit, but I leveled alchemy to 60 JUST to recruit her. The WORSE is Maat! Farming stupid testimonies, and then constantly trading them to him is the longest process.

I believe Asura is the biggest server on XI. Is there alot of active campaign players there?

Going to to try using the carrot broth! Azima is easy for me since I already have capped alchemy and she is currently sitting right next to the campaign fort end. Maat I do agree is horrible to recruit and I think you can only trade him once a game day or something like that?

Was a point where one person was campaigning for sandy so much that they never lost any of the forts in their area for over 7 months. And Sandy always held the northlands every other week and sometimes for a month during campaigns.

Windy is much harder to keep going since the Yagudo's pretty much roll the NPC's anytime your're not there. Specially in Sauromugue Champaign swear that Mithra leader just dies as soon as she spawns.

Well, you can trade to Maat and zone every time, but farming the appropriate testimonies, only being able to hold ONE testimony for each job, and then if hes chilling in North Gustaberg (s), its nearly an all day thing to try and recruit him. Trading him testimonies doesn't give him anymore of an influence boost than talking to Rainemard as a RDM. Just a pain. I guess the same goes for Titania too but i've been lucky in keeping her loyalty for a while now.

And OMG that was a huge request I wanted to make too, BOOST WINDY'S ARMY! Windy can almost never hold a single base in our server... nearly every week. I think the entire time i've been doing campaign, Bastok and Windy held the northern bases maybe once or twice when people were very active. But its obvious the Elvaan armies are much stronger than Bastoks and Windys army. I get the squishy Taru joke from years ago but Windy's army dies so quickly to the Yagudos, and even worse from the northern enemies. They don't even stand a small chance without player support.

I used to do Campaign Ops regularly to keep reconnaissance up, but lately I haven't done it much. I know if you spam the Ops to raise supply and equipment for your army it really helps.

How about adding new items for allied notes.

I'd love to see a black armored chocobo mount, like in the first battle cs. Maybe for 100k or even 150k allied notes?

Or maybe make ancient currency obtainable with allied notes like imperial gold piece for imperial standing.

What nation are you allied to? I notice that if you manage to take over the beastmen stronghold it helps keep the outer areas under control. They usually spam their area trying to get the fortification count back up so they aren't out attacking your areas. Plus steadily destroying them in their area lowers the morale immensely causing to send their armies less often. In turn causing your troops to get stronger from standing there winning battles.

This is the only way I managed to keep windy afloat so long. Plan on attacking the northlands so bastok and windy will be the only ones this week that are able to defend it if I do manage to take it over by tomorrow.

Athlir that brings up a good point. Even a cool chocobo trust would be a nice addition. Heck, more beastmen/monster trusts would be really welcoming at this point too (wheres my pixie or poroggo trust!?). Still not a single Orc or Quadav trust on the roster either -.-

Wallace, I am allied to Sandy. With most freelancers under us, we usually keep our forts perfectly through the tally, minus the main beastmen strongholds. If I decide to strike out north, I gotta be committed to it for the next couple of weeks because when freelancers lose a battle, they lose influence and then it becomes a hassle to try and keep their influence for sandy high. That brings me to another complaint, when your nation takes over their respective beastmens main stronghold, the beastmen are still on defense and your army has to go on the offense to DEFEND that territory! Its so stupid. Even the message prompt will say "The orcs are coming to attack," but then they are actually defending and I believe they replenish orcs too when you defeat one. That makes no sense if your nation took over the stronghold!! Plus its impossible for the allied nation to hold any main stronghold on their own because the beastmen will FIERCELY attack it to try and take it back with 4+ armies at a time, which does make sense but then it devolves into a lag-fest to try and help defend it.

lol sorry for the rant... I rarely get to talk about campaign this extensively >.>

I need to start working on freelancers again windurst currently has the information taru and azima. Going to try to work on the unicorn it's pretty beastly in battle from the 1 time I did get it. It's really annoying and messy when trying to take the northlands. Trying to take beaucedine and xarcabard one week then going for the castle the next usually ends up with me taking the castle and losing beaucedine and xarcabard so frustrating. I thought I was the only one who gets annoyed with the beastmen stronghold stuff. Makes no sense that we take over the stronghold only to be trying to fight off 5-6 armies of orcs that replenish. It gets so laggy that I can't do stronghold battle on anything other than smn,bst,blm or I'll get animation locked and die. They also need to lower the amount of campaign op mission completions it takes to unlock the next rank. No one wants to do 15 Cut and Cauterize to unlock the next one it already takes like 10+mins to do.
I try to raise the funds for my nation because I read it ties into better armor for your troops but it seems damn near impossible I've been stuck at 2 stars forever it feels like. Another thing that I find annoying is the battle strategies. I always pick Battleline Preservation and Public Security, but it never fails to end up on preemptive strike some damn way. lol BB you just described all of campaign for solo players in a nutshell. I highly recommend for you to go for the easy freelancers, at the very least, they defend strongholds really well. I think the easier ones to recruit are: Ferrocious Coffin, Duskraven, and Ulla/Kilhwch when they are unallied. They are all three RIGHT next to a zone so its not as time consuming. Duskraven is a really great freelancer too because he comes with a mini army of his own to the battlefield.

Yeah taking the northern bases... you are speaking volumes to me man. Its impossible to defend against beastmen mainstronghold, beaucedine and xarcabard while trying hard to take castle zvahl baileys. Thats why when it comes to that, I would love to have even just 3 or 4 other players on average participation for campaign. AND the effing lag! Omg.. I like campaigning as white mage because I like keeping the allied NPCs alive, but that damn animation lock when theres an overwhelming amount of enemies is ridiculous! Its definitely best to go with an AOE blaster to defend/attack main beastmen strongholds.

I honestly just stopped doing campaign ops, but I used to be so committed to try and keep the overall army stats up and it was SO time consuming. I ended up just feeling like the victories from attacking/defending were more rewarding, but getting better armor and supplies for troops is still crucial to helping the armies out. And battle strategies... that just feels useless. I remember experimenting with it and for one tally run I decided to advise a full offensive strategy to all the categories, and then the next tally I tried to advise a full defensive style of strategy. I didn't notice a difference at all. My theory on that is, there is a bar that is set right in the middle on each category at the beginning of each tally and every player that gives their opinion only slightly fills/lowers the respective bar. So that set of content for campaign was aimed for alot of players participating in it. As for recommending commanders, I kind of feel like more freelancers will join the commander you recommend, but that's pure speculation. I still try it for roleplaying, but thats my opinion. Kudas to you for keeping on the ops!

I really hope they get rid of the zoning to influence freelancers. Got so annoyed I stopped trying to get, managed to get Lewenhart,Porggo Prince, Ulla this week. Duskraven, Azima, Ferrous Coffin, The Unicorn, The plant thingy are sitting at Most Probably so I'll get them next week I suppose. Maat is on that mountain in North Gustaburg I can't be bothered to even run out that way.

Yeah don't even bother with Maat when hes up there. Well happy campaigning man, it was good to vent abit. :D
