Blue Mage Spells

Simple suggestion: Increase the rate at which Blue Mages learn spells please. There is no reason not to do this. The only people who would say no to this are people who have already got all the spells and they want everyone else to have a hard time.

I put enough effort into it when I leveled BLU back in the day. It would be such a pain to do it again on my new character.

I've done it twice in the last year (the 2nd time w/o AF hands,) and planning on doing it 1-2 more times sometime soon. It's actually not that hard to learn stuff from normal mobs, but it would be appreciated if they could at least raise the rate on event-boss type spells (like Mighty Guard.)

Bah yes please... Although I'm gonna say sometimes I learn spells on first attempt but sometimes It takes 100+ trys!!!! There should some sort of redundancy failsafe. Like every time you dont learn a spell your chance to learn it increases by 5%.

I'm not asking for 100% just something to make me not want to put my fist in a wall.

they generally build the game as if your playing for first time, So deal with it, only reason exp/cp and other events are added is so people can actually do events since not everyone can join groups, learning blue spells has always been a pain but its something you can so solo, yes, we faced the pain before getting all the spells, why should that change? most major spells nowadays can be gotten from doing escha and reisei content, go CP there on different mobs and watch the spells roll in. don't even hold back on WSs or use a weak weapon

Would you people really be upset if they made it easier? I'm not saying im gonna quit the game unless they make it easier im just giving a suggestion. People replying with suck it up are missing the point of this thread. Its not for you guys to tell me to suck it up. its just a simple suggestion to the devs asking for them to make something thats a pain easier. So unless you agree and wish to air your support please ignore this thread.

You clearly don't understand how this forum works, nor the internet as a whole, apparently.

Are you having a particular hard time learning spells? Any in particular?

I'm curious to know, I levelled BLU last year and didn't encounter any real issues learning spells. It's a bit unfair to say those who say no are only doing so because they have already learnt the spells and want to see those without suffer. For the record, I'd say I'm fairly neutral to your suggestion, but from my recent experiences, I can't understand why it's needed.

Maybe if you gave some examples of where you are having such a hard time learning spells, it may spark more sympathy from our fellow forum dwellers :)

Fixed that for you. Because over the years I've seen people struggle for months to learn a spell others learn first try. So unless that was changed in recent times easing up on the RNG would be a good thing for the game.

If they made it so a spell was guaranteed to be learned after 10-20 times that alone would go a long way into making it less frustrating when you get hit by a bad RNG episode.

One example was learning Metallic Body took over 100 attempts. I had max blue magic and was over the skill level required for it. That is the worst one. Others ive had 20+ attempts until I just gave up.

being a little easier is nice and all, (i have a alt that is still learning spells so i know the feeling of doing it twice) however i wouldn't change the current system. if i really thought of it being that bad (And yes, i'v done the 100 mob for a spell thing myself), i'd get blu gloves for learning spells. however, alot of the times, i learn the spell and fail to see it in the log, you gotta make sure to check your spell list in the main menu's magic menu. you'll find you learnt it faster than you'd think. also, don't waste time spaming dia on mobs, equip a lvl 1 club, equip as much acc gear you got, and fight a ep-dc mob(for lvl 99) (since you'll have so much haste from spells, you swing faster than cast). my honest experience from a long time ago is the lower the mob, the harder it is to learn

Normal mobs are fine but heaven help you if you want to learn Vagary-only ones.

Lady Bell works like a charm for TP feeding :3 I think there is some sort of additional damage cap on it since I've hit much higher numbers w/ standard event clubs. Just hit the Mute button before heading out since they ring every time they hit. lol

I've got a hunch that should they continue to use Omen for reforging for the assumed relic/empy armor sets' +2/+3 versions, that the 5x bosses for Empyrean upgrades will be remixes of the Vagary bosses. So at least there might be more opportunities to learn Cruel Joke etc other than Vagary or missions. ^^;;

Vagary is ment to be hard to learn, they tried to atleast keep some stuff hard, its only because more escha/reisei content opened up new armor for survival, trusts and more positional mobs being in escha/reisei. however some of the original spells like thunderbolt from behemoth was hard at 99, however with ilvl119 and now can spam the shit outta it in more than only a few locations

As someone that recently returned, and would need to go learn some more blue spells thought would stop in here. I don't recall many spells being hard to learn. The hard ones were always the extremely limited mobs, such as bcnm battlefield only usage ones, or trying to get refueling in misarux coast while CoP was still level capped.

So just a lil curious as to if my old method will still be very effective. Fight mob normally until it is at a point can reliably kill asap if needed, then use multihit spells like bludgeon to feed it tp if it has not used spell I am after, once uses any tp move at this point kill and find a fresh mob to repeat. Only ones I ever let sit there and rebuild tp are those in extremely limited supply. Often targeted DC leveled mobs so they lasted a lil bit, yet could easily kill.

The only other sources for most of the Vagary boss spells are one-time missions. :(

You can't learn them from missions, although you can learn Cruel Joke off of Balamor from skirmish

You can indeed learn them from missions. I got the salamander-like thing's spell from the SOA mission where you fight one, and you can learn Mighty Guard from the ROV mission version. The main problem with this method is that they are not repeatable without another player who needs the mission completion still.

Spells have been learnable from missions since the job came out. Remember way back when that was the common way of learning body slam since no other low level dragons. Had blus asking people if they still on random missions lol

It's not a question of being able to learn spells from missions in general, you can't learn the SoA ones (cesspool, tearing gust) because the mobs that use them don't actually die when you fight them, you just get warped out/put into a cutscene when they get to low hp.

Biggest mistake I remember reading about from when BLU was originally released is that people "turn away" from the mob to let it get TP hitting them. Then the mob does the Ability and then the player turns back towards the mob hopefully fast enough to kill it. Somewhere in the cutscenes and dialogue one of the main BLU NPCs says something about "... how you are learning it from them and the more you watch their actions the more you shall learn..." implying that you need to be facing the mob (looking at it) when the target does the ability you want to learn. Also the faster you kill it after it performs the ability affects the % of learning it too.
. I know you can still learn it other way by facing askew, but I remember reading in the Q&A they had very early on that the dev team replied that the rate of learning the spell, if you're not facing the target, dropped drastically, and the longer you wait to kill it lowered the learning rate, too.
. Hope that helped even a tiny bit, because they can be a P.I.T.A. to learn.

Unless you can pull up that Q&A, I'm betting you are misremembering something and that it was a "planned" aspect that was not implemented. I've never had any problem learning blue magic while facing away from the target, and have done the process on 3x characters.
