New reforged "rumor"

So rumor is, merits. Multiple thousands. Rumor is always right these days, so let me say this right now.

There is not even 1% chance I will ever even consider doing this content if you think I'm going to an npc 75 merits at a time for 5000 merits per piece.

Straight up no.

There is already a very low chance I'll bother regardless but 75 merits at a time. Hell no.

Using merits is fine, I don't have any issue with that. The issue I will have is with how they are held/collected.

If they did something like this they should allow us to "turn on" collecting merits for the piece and not have to turn them in... cause yeah... having to turn them in 75 at a time would be eye-bleedingly bad

Unless this rumor came from someone in the know (and not alot of those talk publically) or a link to something at least semi official I'd really take it with a few grains of salt.

Every rumor so fare this year has been true, so I'm complaining in advance.

Not sure about all of them but I do know a few did come from someone who claims to be in the know. But think they are English side so idk.

I could totally see 1k or like Olor said something where you stored them or like how they did with relic trials have you wear them for so much xp. Those would be grindy but semi reasonable

As long as I can Skip Vagary and still upgrade my Empyrean, then I'm "almost" ok with this, as long as if you've got a +2 version you get a nice discount on points to upgrade

Isn't there already an NPC that does what the OP is complaining about in risenjima or something?

At any rate, whether I put any stock in a rumor or not kind of depends on where it comes from. This is the first I've heard about this "rumor" so without hearing where he heard it from I'd take it with a giant grain of salt.

That's why I'm complaining about it. That system is garbage. And if they think I'm going to keep doing that for hundreds of thousands of merits, can KMA.

I -refuse- to keep doing that and buying an (item) from that goblin for 5k to upgrade Artifact gear.

Store yes. And it does offer stuff at completely ridiculous cost (like 5k for a dusk stone+2 or 25k for the old legion/vw shiny weapons lol) but I don't remember seeing anyone but me really bring it up because it's so ridiculous and old content that no one even cares.

There has been zero mention of any further upgrades to relic or empyrean reforges. Only artifact armor at this point. I have a feeling the primary purpose is to add augs to AF so they more closely line up with the other two. The odds of them giving us a way to bypass the upgrade-unlock stage is probably slightly lower than winning the Mog Bonanza. Not gonna happen in other words. >_<;;

There is a very easy and elegant solution to raising the held merit cap too, in case the devs see this:

Change the merit category to increase your merit cap. Instead of cap+1 per upgrade, change it to +5 or +10 (or even higher! :D Don't think anyone is dumb enough to complain if you give us more.)

I just want the AF/Relic/Empyrean to be rolled into a single piece of gear. It doesn't even need to have ambuscade-level welfare gear stats, it would just be really nice if I could condense 75 pieces of gear down into 25.

It would also be nice as a side-grade for returning players to Ambuscade. Combined AF/R/E armor wouldn't have the same accuracy or attack, or magic accuracy or magic attack, as Ambuscade gear, but the job-specific bonuses, combined with an alternate upgrade path for returning players to help them get into stuff, would be nice.

You wouldn't need all the acc/macc on the af gear if...get this, AMBUSCADE GEAR WAS AVAILABLE ANY MONTH OF THE YEAR.

Fix ambuscade gear and bring vouchers back forever.

Combined sets don't really qualify as something that new/returnees would have access to though. You'd be looking at 11-14x upgrades to complete from base to combine-able stages. (AF=4-5 upgrades, relic=3-5 upgrades, empy=3-4 upgrades.) That's a pretty massive time/gil investment requirement to expect fresh meat to tackle for "side-grade" quality gear.

There is no way the devs would give us a way to bypass the current reforge system, or it's included unlock requirements. That means that you would still need to perform the upgrades to the max point on each, so there would be no cost/time savings from combining them and the grand total for benefits gained would only be inv+2 per piece (assuming you already had all 3 pieces AND assuming the final piece had the best of every single stat from its components.)

If you didn't have full sets already, then you would also be forced to acquire and upgrade all 3 sets in order to combine them. I know I definitely didn't bother with the vast majority of reforges because they didn't offer any benefit over normal 119 gear. This idea is definitely NOT a viable option for new/returnees to use while gearing up.

Also, I'd be really surprised if cramming all the augs from each set together onto a single set didn't cause major coding issues.. Item/Augment data space is not unlimited after all. There are also definitely better things that the devs could be working on other than trying to make a combined AF/relic/empy thing work.

Each of the previous sets were available for a total of four months each. If you did not pay/play for four months, then you don't really have any right to complain about the availability of gear that that was available for 1/3 of a year, and likely to return annually.

I can complain about gear that isn't obtainable anymore that was only available for four months, in a game where THIS HAS NEVER BEEN A THING BEFORE.

I should not be punished for not playing a game for every year every month of the year and farming a single form of content 100+ times every month the past few months.

Like I said, this has NEVER EVER been a thing in this game, ever. Every other form of gear is available every single day since this games release in 2002. I did not need to stay subbed to a game and play when Sky come out or forever not be able to get my Byakko's Haidate back in 2005. This is the first time in this games history this has been a thing, and it's AWFUL design.

I see it in the same light as Trusts and Campaigns. Some ciphers are only available once a year since they're tied to seasonal events. Some campaigns are much more valued by the playerbase than others but rarely appear. That does not mean the devs are in the wrong for not making them always available. You are not being "punished" for not logging in. You are being "not rewarded" for logging in. Punishment would be losing something you already have.

For the record, I missed quite a bit of the Ambuscade sets on my second account since she wasn't quite up to the gearing req's for to join groups for VDs and I simply don't have the stomach to do the full grind twice every month on the lower difficulties. (This part could stand to see some adjustments since the fights themselves are usually not friendly to all jobs/roles.) And I am sad that I don't have all the +1 gear that I wanted, but I've got no valid argument against waiting 8 months to have another shot at it since I didn't put the work in for it the first go round. Especially since we all knew that the system would work on a monthly rotating basis since it was launched earlier this year.

Try to consider that we are already past the point where the game is officially "over". ^^;;
The dev team is down to a skeleton crew, they can't make tons of new resources, but they are continuing to put out a lot more than what we expected when word of console service shutdown was announced. Building in time limitations increases how long content can stay relevant, which is far from a new concept even in this game. Remember once-per-week Dynamis lockouts? I do. When I compare 52 total attempts per year to get a certain equip while lotting against 18+ others to ~120 days of spammable farming access, it doesn't seem that irritating to me I guess.

We also don't have any definitive word on exactly how rewards will function after a year's up either.. While my gut is telling me that it will probably be a simple annual rotation since that would require nearly zero dev time to maintain, it is far from impossible that they couldn't shift it to only rotating vouchers once this dev cycle ends next March in order to make it even more newbie friendly.

There's also never been content that reset points every month either or had new sets of gear every month. It's almost like this whole content was specifically designed like the campaigns to encourage people to stay active... but good news it looks like they are caving

I'd be more likely to stay active if I could make progress on my own time. But having to do essentially nothing but ambuscade for a month and still not get a +1 set is... actually demotivating.

While the grind is real it seems it is more so for you. Are you solo a lot and not doing at least VD on regular?

Yes, this is exactly the problem.
The system that's supposed to make you stay active and subbed, actually does the complete opposite and burns you out from the game, makes you hate it, and makes you unsub.

Ambuscade needs to not be "temporary gear/points reset/monthly sets", the entire reward structure behind it will slowly kill the game.

This game has always been about pacing yourself, taking things at your own pace, slowly working towards things when YOU wanted to, and obtaining them over x months/years. Ambuscade turns this game into rush rush go go go go go go must meet cap go go go ff14/wow clone and that isn't healthy for the game.

I don't feel confident enough in my gear yet to do VD groups. I've tried to do Difficult runs with other players but they always failed (and were hard to get people for). Often, even dropping down to Normal with other players was actually harder than just soloing N with trusts.

Maybe my gear is good enough, I don't know, it's hard to tell these days. I just don't want to ruin anyone's run by being a gimp.

I have mostly mid-high augmented taeon, some hard mode avatar and unity gear, and NQ ambuscade stuff. I have a couple escha T1 bits, a few abj gear ... but none of it gets me over 1000 base acc on any job.

I'd be over on a couple jobs if I could figure out how to make oboro let me augment my JSE weapons - but he won't (I am done RoV but he still won't)

Ah that makes a bit of a difference. Though with a group should still be able to do VD. Like every month outside of birds normal VD has been soloable on pup and I think bst has solod every months normal VD. The gear requirement for normal VD is rather low for group play. You don't really need super good gear in a group until doing harder difficulties of intense. And well the grind of E or N in normal will take forever. It was designed to be a semi reasonable grind at VD normal and not bad on intense. Don't think they expected people to try to go for hq gear on E lol.

That acc seems really low though I need to go back to check my melees since I'm usually on tank jobs or full tanking but most jug pets get up to 1k or pretty close with just shiromochi and no pet acc gear or jp plus most the most the moves get an accuracy bonus and then there is run wild... Might just want to come back to bst until you get better geared up other jobs. Have you not gotten any of the previous sets? Cause they offer kind of ridiculous amounts of acc... think my RUN in Meghanada is hitting around 1200

I have full NQ Meghanada but iirc some of the pieces have lower acc than my Taeon (I have some max/close to max ACC augments). The NQ is quite a step down from HQ. Besides iirc I needed more haste so I couldn't use full set.

I have to double check but my thf gets close to 1000, like 980 or something. I could probably get over 1K on thf if I rerolled a few augments but I got tired of the skirmish money pit awhile ago. I've got a grounded mantle +1 for thf and a fully augmented dex/acc Rosmerta cape for blu (minus the new aug slots they added)... I could use a better acc neck... but not sure where else I'm supposed to get acc from, have acc ammo, acc ring, acc on my belt.... etc

I can't see myself giving up my epona's ring for 10 acc or something...

Olor: Just to be clear, you have already received JSE weapons from Oboro? The only issue you are having is augments, correct? Not a single JSE weapon has the augment status? What are the dialogues he gives you when you:
1. Talk to him
2. Trade a JSE weapon to him
3. Trade a JSE weapon AND a single PBR rock to him

I ran into some aug issues on my alt, and took some random combination of the above in order to get him to do it... He seems to be quite picky about his interactions with players, and there may be some sort of non-obvious required interaction sequence in order to get things rolling. (Like talking to the NPC next to Monisette before Monisette will allow you to do armor reforges.)

If you're going to reforge the AF stuff, can you please change that God awful stat of Convert DMG of Avatar's element to MP on the SMNs hands to something useful?

No SMN outside of soloing is ever going to put themselves in range to be hit by an attack of an Enemy and a SMN will try their best to use an avatar of the opposing element to take elemental weakness into account to lessen the DMG their avatar takes.

Make it something useful like...

Avatar: Occ. Absorbs Elemental DMG of Avatars type
or
Avatar: Occ. Annuls Element DMG of Opposing Type
or
Avatar: Occ. Converts Elemental DMG to TP.

ANYTHING but the crap that's on there now. I've always hated those stupid hands for that sole stat. And they are the only piece I've refused to reforge of the SMN's attire. 12/15 - 119, 2/15 - 109, 1/15 - Stored in moogle....

I can't think of many of the other AFs that needed a change, but hopefully if they do, they will. I recall the Moogle Trials changing a few stats of things when the relics were upgraded... but I might be thinking of something else, it's been a bit

I don't think any of the Magian Trials actually change any stats, only augment options. Probably including the augs in your totals in memory XD

WAR AF119+2 was shown off in today's FP#30. Looks like higher stats, a few new ones added on, but nothing "unique" removed, so odds are good the SMN hands won't be getting a makeover. :( We'll know for sure in 3 days I guess.

And there were definite actual stat changes in af2+1 -> af2+2. Then after there was the trial for augments. For example warrior gained. Head : 7 def, 2 dex, 8 str, 2 parry skill and removed the +1 enmity. Quick look at the war set and most the stats just increased with some minor complete adds like another base stat or some acc/att and then all the enmity was removed

I remember there was a big hubbub because blm legs actually lost their day bonus.

Speaking of smn going from relic+1 to +2 was pretty big at the time. Not listing everything (like all gained def and mp) but... head: extra -2 bp delay, gained avatar 5 mab, the weather clause in the -3 prep was removed. Body: extra -2 bp delay, the day clause in the -3 prep was removed, gained an extra 2 avatar crit hit rate. Hands: 3 more smning skill, extra -2 bp delay. Legs: extra -2 bp delay, avatar enmity changed to avatar macc. Feet: extra -2 bp delay, avatar enmity changed to magical crit hit rate

Think some of the enmity stats were removed for the af119+2

Looking at the new WAR set, enmity got removed from body/legs and head/hands got extra enmity which makes up a bit for the lost amounts, for a total of enmity-5 on the whole set compared to the current +1 version. Since WAR has moved out of the tanking role, seems like it's a good idea to me to lower enmity a bit and focus the enmity on the set onto fewer pieces to increase when they can be used safely.
