Updates to Fishing?

Fishing, over the years, has taken a lot of hits due to RMT, which hurt actual fishers, and sometimes non-fishers.
Any chance that Fishing could get some updates?
Remove some nerfs, give some new things?

Some specifics would be...
---Remove Fatigue, completely. Fatigue is a worthless system. Personally, I have time to fish way more than 200 fish per day. From what I understand, this limit was implemented to prevent RMT abuse. [Which makes no sense, considering RMT had plenty of accounts to fish with.]
---Remove Goblin Bounty Hunters. From what I remember, these were implemented to annoy RMT who fished with lower level characters, so that they had to level until they didn't aggro anymore to be able to fish there. Although not a lot of people do non-Aby XP parties anymore, this did ruin or cause annoyance to a few spots. This also makes it really annoying for anyone doing the BST unlocking quest at level 30. Again, I don't find them to be necessary whatsoever.
---Change the "Newbie Fatigue". What I mean by this, is that if your character is new and/or below level 20, your fishing capabilities are terrible. A recommended change from me, would be to make the only requirement a level 10 or 15 character. RMT is almost non-existent now, compared to before. I find that it's extremely unfair on new players to make them wait a whole month to be able to fish properly.

In short:
RMT hardly exists these days, as interest in selling/buying FFXI gil is extremely low right now.
I simply suggest taking away or lessening the measures taken to combat RMT, that end up affecting real players in a negative way.
And on top of this, give us more updates for Fishing! I'm sure SE can get creative here.

I agree with this! Fishing is king. Removing some restrictions from fishing would be good, maybe some improvements on top of that would be good, like reducing the time between casting and bite, or reducing time between reeling in a catch and being able to fish again. Possibly remove all together, or lower the chances of getting no bite at all.

Increased skill ups would be nice. After 6 years of fishing, I'm still only 23.6.

Like I've been saying in other threads, fishing fatigue is really sporadic right now. Catches ranging for me to be far less than 200 sometimes not even 150. SE has pretty much removed all other ways of making any gil in this game (removed NM/HNM drops, Synergy broke crafting, etc.) so this is the only way that I really make money. Trying fund a relic horn atm also, so I hope I didnt just start a meaningless effort if fishing is broken now also.

While fishing is a good consistent income from vendorable fish and potential ebisu fish sales, it pales in comparison to how much you can make in Abyssea. At the top end you can expect to make ~300k from vendor fish or if you have a ebisu deal up to 1M per day. And the majority of these anti-RMT measures are negated since Nashmau is the primary location to skill up. Also in terms of consumables consider the Neb and Cone market on your server for potential profits.

I personally would look forward to improvements for things like gutting Matsuya and other hard legendary fish for profits to reward 90+ Fishermen. As it stands Ebisu is unbreakable and increases the fish cap to 210 which is but ultimately moot. There have been a few new fishing items and legendary fish this last year but nothing that would bring the craft forward.

1M a day? doing that crocodile fish in abby? Or what fish? Gotta make gil somehow in this time of depression.

1M/day for catching and selling 50 Lik/Gugs. Which takes 4-8 hours. And you need a buyer.

Ah yes, kind of sad that the best way to make money as a fisher is to sell fish to other fishers. I mean, that's just wrong in some way. We should be able to exploit the cookers and the alchemists for more gil :D

Depending on your server's market, you can make a tidy profit on nebs, cone, sole/dil, and a few other things. However as consumables the supply chain is very volatile so be careful on flooding.

5 years and fishing 63,6. (didn't fished for a while). but +0,1 in 1-3 hours in quiet annoying.

With the pelican ring, I'm usually able to get 1 level a day before hitting the 200 cap. Before 100 even. I just keep getting dragged into Abyssea hehehe.

I thought up a way simpler system to use instead of the newbie fishing prevention.

99.9% of RMTs target fish with halcyon rod or comp rod. The answer is simple. Stick a level requirement on each fishing rod, starting at lv 1 for something like willow or whatever, and increasing in increments of 5 per upgrade, with lu shangs being a lv 50ish fishing rod. Have ebisu be a lv 75 rod.

You have now successfully stopped RMTs from ever being able to fish up anything better than a moat carp. So wait, why not put level caps on bait too?

And there, RMTs now need to be at least level 20 in order to catch anything worthwhile, which is exactly the same as it is with one big difference.

Non RMT newbies can still level fishing even at level 1 without hindrance. they just need to use a yew or willow rod, which is a perfectly fine fishing rod to use for catching moat carp, which 99.9% of the userbase levels up on til level 10 anyways. Thus players can level fishing as the level their main, upgrading rods and bait as they go.

While fishing skillups do slow down a bit after 60, even without a pelican ring you should be able to hit more than a single .1 after 1-3 hours if you are fishing correctly. And honestly if you fish to skillup, you're just going to get burned out.

And feel free to disregard anything Urat has to say about fishing. Unless you really value the opinion of someone who was caught using a fishbot. Or believed that Water Barrels added +Fishing Skill.

I happened to get two fishing levels today, up to 74 now. I'd be higher but I've just really been getting GP and calling it a day for about a month or so. I even got one magical .4 skillup from a single fish (two .2's because of pelican ring). I think skillup is slow, but is also reasonable for the investment required to fish. I have also noticed I'm getting faster skill ups in nashmau now that my skill is past the 60's, so not going for fish that are too high helps get skills faster.

Fishing for fish relatively close (but higher) to your current skill level certainly makes skillups more apparent. The same, as I've come to understand things, applies to the other crafts, and to combat skills in general.

Some days (most days?) you'll have bad luck with fishing skill. Some days you'll get 2 levels in a day. There really doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. It seems to happen just as frequently as the other crafts, though we might not see eye-to-eye on that because the other crafts don't have a 200-crafts-a-day limit.

That is true, no other craft has a 200 per day limit, once you have your rod and some lures there is also no further investment required to fish, so where as other crafts require you to pay for each synth (other than synergy but that is still some gil per synth) if you never lose a lure (i have not lost a single lure in months, so really their cost is negligible to the income) So unless you're using bait, fishing has zero cost per 'synth' so to speak.

Personally I think getting 'no bite' is more annoying than the 200 limit. It would take much less time investment in fishing if you got a bite 100% of the time, and it would not take 4+ hours to get to 200, and then you might think the 200 limit was annoying because you're reaching the 200 limit in 1-2 hours instead of 4+ hours.

But you know what, I think I can live with the 200 limit, because the limit is not the problem, the no bites is the problem.

I love how someone is using my old coined phrase I've been telling the community for years in the same post that they tell someone to not listen to me.

Don't fishbot, nowadays a fishbot is a dime a dozen and anyone can get it, and it's very easy to get sucked into it. At first it starts out as a "well this skillup fish is really boring, I'll stop using it as soon as I'm done and go back to legit after" particularly in the 80 range is where most people start.

However once you start it's hard to stop. Yes one time I did use a program, and I got caught, and it was then that I reflected and realized I was using a program to play my game for me, and thus realized further how sad that really was. But the risk is not worth the gains. Risking everything you've worked for in your game for something as silly as a bit of gil is not worth it, and it can be so easy to forget what you're putting on the line when the bot makes everything so easy.

But the risk never goes away and all it takes is a split second to lose everything.

Anyways, that's my lesson to new fishers. Take it from someone who's gone through it himself, it's a slippery slope and very easy to lose your priorities.

Hmmmm. I got fishing from 0 to 100 in about a month and a half with pelican ring. I found skillups to be pretty consistent, I think I had maybe 1 unlucky day. Most days I almost always got 4-5 skill per day til I got to around 85 where it slowed down a bit. I think they need to set a cap per fish actually. Right now its too easy for bots to fish all day long.

I fished all day long for a month and a half and only got 0-15 to show for it. 5 years later I'm still only 25.6 and the last .9 was just recently.

Weird what were you fishing?

I went from 0-12 on moat carps, 12>40 on istiridye in nashmau, then 40>85 in talacca cove then 85>100 on gugrusaurus and lik. Though I actually think I hit 100 on a ryugu titan .3 lol.

Pelican Ring is definitely a godsend for skilling up. Having a Lu rod will make the journey worlds easier, as well. I'd do everything I could to obtain both of these items if you don't already have (get more than one ring...you'll need it.)

As far as skilling up, the area you fish has alot to do with the rate of skillups in my opinion. Just a quick level reference based on your current level of what I found to be good fishing.

current level to 35ish: Tuna and Calamary on the Selbina/Mhaura Ferry (Minnow)

35-45: Shall Shells in Buburimu (Rogue or Robber Rig)

45-55: Bluetail and Marlin on Selbina/Mhaura Ferry (Minnow/Slice of Bluetail) great if your cooking has even only a couple/few levels on it. bring wind xtals and make the bluetail bait on the boat. Can do 4 synths safely between trips, too.

55-86: Mercanbaligi and Ahtapot in Nashmau (Sinking Minnow) This was by FAR the hottest spot to fish. I did these 31 levels in just under 4 days of fishing with a pelican ring...and the fish NPC in the city for decent gil. win-win.

86-100: I've been on Armored Pisces in Oldton Movalpolos using Sinking Minnows. I'm at 99.4 now and the skillups along the road I took were pretty consistent. I've had terrible luck in trying to obtain my Penguin Ring, and Lik / Gurgru are a pain without it, so i haven't bothered to target them yet. I did seem to get more frequent skillups as the moonphase was under about 25%, too. Don't give up on fishing. It's tedious at times, for sure...but the skillups will come!

I have leveled fishing to 100 on one character and to 90 on another with pelican both times full time usage and I have never gotten more than 6 levels in a day and that is very rare. Most of the time its 4-5 and 5 is a good day.
