STOP with the login campaigns already! Please STOP!

Why are you giving all the ultimate goals of this game away??? This makes no sense... If no one is farming those testimonies anymore or doing rank missions / cop / zilart what reason do we have to play this game? Seriously, please take a break and really think it through before you start giving Cat's Eye away for 4000 login points.

I strongly disagree. The login campaigns were one of the things that brought me back to the game. As well as improvements and the trust system. Getting free items is a nice plus to the game and allows me to spend more time on content I enjoy, I really don't want to farm up the gil required for gobbie bag items for example, not that I wouldn't buy the items if I had the gil on the char I was playing. Its beneficial for new/returning users to get items they need/wanted but without all of the fuss and wasted effort of doing so for some of them. Honestly some items I don't even find worth the point cost. For example, why spend 1,000 points on a Honey Wine when I can farm one in less then 10mins?

I'd be all for them continuing to 100 and beyond if they implemented them during version update maintenance instead of giving them their own 1.5 hour maintenance (usually within a few days of a version update).

Someone posted a chart of login data that they gleaned from the servers a while ago. It showed that there was a sharp increase (after an extended fall) in player logins during login campaign 1 that carried over to subsequent months. Even though it continued to drop, the average was still much higher than before login campaign 1.

This is just a crutch. It says a lot about a game's content/how fun it is when many people will not play it regularly, but will login/subscribe to get a cute costume.

The prizes offered by the login campaigns have been "okay" at best. If you don't like the campaign, don't participate.

What useful content are they erasing by having these?
Hours of testimony farming for a useless item that ANYONE can get? No thank you.

The campaign is greatly welcomed by many, if not all but the OP. I know it is one reason I came back and continue to stay. Excited for present goodies and future goodies from it. Here is to hoping that some items from past RL events and other un-obtainable items will eventually make their way to these campaigns. Thank you SE.

Testimony farming doesn't take that long and you don't really get useful items out of it. You either break the level 70 cap for your first job or get 50% off on job related monster instincts. I guess you get Maat's Cap too if you beat him on the 15 original jobs but testimony farming isn't the time consuming part of that process.. levelling is.

I really love my Timepiece and my Cardian statue, which I got from login campaign. Quite honestly they are two of my favourite things in FFXI. I sometimes stand around waiting for the Timepiece to play its little tune and do the swirly colours thing lol.

Also I like obtaining crests and seals for BC's, from log-in. that is a blessing and means I don't have to get scammed so often by that merciless thieving brigand in Port Jeuno with his outrageous 3-for-1 deal.

Also I liked login campaign because it enabled me to obtain hundreds of shanks and totally waste them on a load of pixie earrings and a headache.

That said I did raise an eyebrow when I saw the testamonies today. I doubt there is anyone level 70 who can't get a high level friend to kill a few mobs for a test, or just shout for help. When I see shouts like that I jump on it and help the person out, because helping new players is what FFXI was always about imho. So maybe the login tests bracket was a bit of a miss.

Considering the now mid level mobs are no longer really a challenge and its rather easy to solo some of the NMs that grant a 100% drop of Testimonies. It would not be difficult to farm them. Most of the time leveling in mid 60s to early 70s areas I get alot of useless tests which end up going to the ground.

The Login campaigns are probably the best thing that has happened to the game because they reward you for keeping your sub active and playing daily.

And let me put it this way, those campaigns have kept me login into the game on a daily basis for months now. If they go away so will I.



PS > Not to mention they are completely optional, so if you don't want to use login points you don't have to.

PPS > The one thing that I find to be asinine about this thread is that the complain is about the testimonies, which would require you to log in daily for more than 2 weeks to acquire with login points. Specially considering you could obtain them in a couple of days just farming them the old fashioned way.

The complain should be that those testimonies are taking the space of way more useful items we could obtain instead, not about login campaigns.

A lot of good points are made. Yes the login is getting a bit repetitive, and they keep giving out the same stuff only changing the Trusts when a new one is introduced, but if ppl keep logging in then they will keep doing them. The only reason I keep doing them is for seals and new trusts and if they give something you can't get anyway else.

As for the OP saying for them to give us a Cats Eye..... If they did that they would make me a happy player :)

I'm constantly throwing testimonies away from mobs that aggro me on the way to do other stuff, on jobs with no treasure hunter.

Maybe I should've been more clear... I don't have anything against rewarding players who login everyday, of course not. What I'm against is the fact that they are giving away stuff that you should be working on yourself, or playing with others. I know the stuff is 12 years old and I don't need it myself, it just worries me that they keep giving too much stuff and there are no goals left other than the random sidegrade here and there...

There's a big difference between relevant current goals, and old school road blocks though. For the most part, the campaign has done a fine job of separating these out.

Defending Ring is suddenly a somewhat common (RNG willing, at least) item to see around now. That's not really a bad thing. Beyond that, which IMO is the most significant item offered by the campaign since it was added, we've had Limbus items, low tier Skirmish pieces and stones, low tier Airlixirs, Testimonies, LB10 items, [S] area BC items, the Goblin 880 stew for Gobbie Bag upgrades, and prolly more things that I'm forgetting. Is any of that really taking away from content that we should be doing anyways?

The most significant additions from the campaign would be Delve beads (though with the increase in drop rate, this isn't that big of a deal anymore), seals, including SKCs, and Shanks. Everything else is either road block clearing items, minor advances in current content that don't threaten the top tier of of said content (Airlixir +1s and Skirmish stones +1), or purely cosmetic items.

Is there really something wrong with allowing people to save a few Tales by +1ing their original AF? How about allowing someone to not spend a few hundred k for an upgrade tier of a Gobbie Bag? Skipping Testimonies? Easing ZNM pop item sets needed? I don't see anything wrong with it personally. Now if you could, as you say, get a Cat's Eye, or get lots of Airlixir +2s, or Delve boss drops, or RME currencies, etc, then yeah, I'd see a problem. But as it is, it's a time saver when it's relevant for someone. Outside of that relevancy, it's a cosmetic/Trust item boutique with the ability to dump all your points into Shanks or seals.

If you're really that annoyed by the login campaigns, just ignore them and dont spend your points? Why rain on everyone else's parade? How does it hurt you when someone else gets a bauble or pop item for an old NM or whatever you can get from these?

I can't lie, the alter egos and stuff have kept me logging in more than I thought I would when I resubbed. I'd say these campaigns are rather effective at their main purpose.

Somone once told me "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." Take that advice. Free stuff is free stuff, just freakin' enjoy it. Don't be "that guy."

Lol it's funny they give away seals for bc's, pop items for limbus and sky, testimonials, pop items that you can use to hopefully get a pop item for an old school hnm that may or may not give you a bb item or a d ring, items for genkai 10, etc. I really don't see the problem, they aren't really giving away anything of real value here, just something you could get with minimal effort.

Everybody that reads the forums knows I hate the idea of giving the game away, but this isn't even in that category, these are just minor incentives to get people to actually log in, and maybe find something to actually do in the game. RMEs are not falling from the sky, nobody is getting delve boss KIs handed to them, nobody is getting anything other than something that might help them ease a few ridiculous roadblocks that probably really shouldn't be in the way at this point in the game.

Hell I say let it ride, use your points and get some pop items that you can make a few gil with or a trinket or bauble that may tickle your fancy

Got to try and flip those prizes. Buy testimonies with log-in points, give them to the daily tally goblins, then use the points and hope for something better. :D

lol even i got the sarcasm in this, while im not happy with alot of the stuff se doing to bring 2 month old noobs up to my 9 years of effort,
these log in campaigns are nice as long as they dont give anymore surprise we dont like the prices of some thing so we giving it away for 3k points (shanks)

I love login points. Stop with the nonsense of wanting to take stuff I like away. The game is about making a profit for SE, the more people log on, the better. I for one love every day login in with my characters to get the points. I enjoy going to the moogle and trying to figured out what I can get for my points.

I would like the development team to consider given some of the following items through login points:
1. items needed to make the 119 weapons from Oboro in port jueno,a lot of time I cannot find them on the AH.
2. REM chapters 6-through 10. I always find it difficult to join the battles that drops them.

I would also like it that when we log out that the application takes us back to the screen where the characters are. Have the character we just went in selected. So I know which one to log in next, a lot of times I forget and I keep login in with the same character.

Can we have a configuration setting somewhere were we can toggle the number of seconds it takes to log out. Always waiting for the 30 second timer is frustrating. Maybe put some logic in the code, that says, if character is lvl 99, then have 30 second timer, if character is a mule lvl 5 or below, log out immediately.

Don't stop. It's one of the fee things that have kept me subbed. It's nice to get items like af3 items etc which are just tedious to get these days.
