Adventuring Fellows - New Classes?

Well, it's been a long while now and with the addition of Trust Alter Egos... Is it possible to add new class types for Adventuring Fellows now? Maybe ranged or offensive casters?

Also can you consider an AI overhall on them so that they remain capable of acting without being required to engage the enemy? AKA: Have to melee/keep meleeing if you want them to melee.

Can you just rework them to perform actions to the current battletarget or most recently acted on target?

Would very much like to see them capable of casting Refresh also if possible, just for the fact that they are unique helpers for the players, they should retain a step ahead of the Alter Egos.

Would also love to see a bard type class for them as well even. Hope to hear some good news!

I, for one, certainly oft had in my mind thoughts of how great it would be to be able to ask the fellow to take a rest while I fight, not only when I rest.

There's a lot that could be done with them, but I'm not sure if they would ever be motivated enough to put more time into them. Perhaps in a distant future world, where they've ran out of NPCs to clone... and even then, I find it doubtful, but probably not impossible!

It's especially concerning that they mentioned they want to create a proper quest for the final leveling limiting breaking of fellows, which could be seen as a benchmark for their future quests. This, of course, could mean that there will be no quests at all, or they simply wanted to set the bar very low indeed.


At first, I wasn't really sure what to think about Faith/Trust Alter Egos, but now I'm pretty sure I don't like them. They're soulless, so to speak, and creepy. It's a fun idea fer sure, but they seem just... empty... to me, and especially in Sakura's case (who should never speak anything other than katakana), fake.

Oh well. That's probably just me!

They aren't "real" in that world, they are fake copies of the originals that just help you battle. So they probably should seem fake.

I agree with you that Trusts don't feel as solid as Fellows. I think the reason is that the Trusts are basically lvl 119 after a two minute quest and you equipping a 119 weapon. Fellows feel more solid because you had to grind out all those levels with them, you might have been adventuring with them for 8~ years, doing all the Fellow quests along the way. And you remember how slowly they levelled back then, when soloing with your Fellow could end in death for both of you, you remembered how you cheered when your Fellow reached level 60 etc. It is the memories of the times you spent together that make Fellows seem more "real" or solid, something you can't get from a Trust that takes no time at all to get to lvl 119. Also, all Trusts are uniformly the same for every player, whereas your Fellow is customised to be almost unique to you, with the choice of race/size/name/gear/weapon etc.
On topic, I would like to see some new weapons and armors added to the Fellows equip list. And some new dialogue etc.

I'm very ok with how "empty" Trusts feel right now. It is to be expected considering how many of they are and how they work.

As long as we get more Trust content down the line that is.

These things take time, and if I was to choose I'd rather have the devs focus first on making Fellows viable again and adding quests and content for them. And then after fellows are at a good level have them change focus to Trusts. But I'm aware this would take a long time to fully implement, so as long as they keep adding gradual changes I'm fairly ok with waiting for it because I know it will be worth it as long as they don't neglect Trusts and Fellows.


And maybe one day they'll let me marry my npc at last. ;)

The idea that you have memories of your times spent with an AF rather than a Trust is only so in some cases. If you use NPCs such as Prishe, Lion, Ulmia, Tenzen, or so on then you can say you've a closer bond with them actually than you do your AF in a way. Sure, you've done a few quests with your AF, but you've literally saved the world with Prishe, you talked to her throughout an entire expansion basically, there's a bond with her at very least that transcends that of a fellow's bond. I don't mean to say this is how it is with them all, I mean you can easily look at the starting Trusts at very least and say there's no need for connection at all, but I just mean to say it's not always that way.

Well you missed my point. Levelling your Fellow used to take absolutely ages, thousands of hours. In the level 75 era, the only job you could level a Fellow at a decent speed was BST75. If you didn't have BST75, that meant you levelled your Fellow by soloing Easy Prey mobs with your Fellow. That took a LONG TIME. That means you spent a LONG TIME with your Fellow, actually fighting alongside them for thousands of hours. As opposed to Prishe who you saw in some Cut Scenes briefly, so your comparison is no comparison at all.
I actually levelled my NPC using my BST75 in 2006~ and my BST Linkshell were the only people on the server who had high level Fellows, because we could solo Toughs on BST. Everyone else was soloing EP mobs with their Fellows and so it took them much longer to level up. But even for me on BST75 spamming Toughs, it took me a long long time to finish levelling my Fellow.
Now of course you can wear ilvl 119 and solo high level mobs with Trusts, so you can level a Fellow to 99 in very short time. But for many people (including myself) it was very slow work in the level 75 era, I have a lot of memories of many long levelling sessions with my Fellow in the 2006-2010 years when soloing was slow xp and Fellows took forever to accomplish high levels.
I really don't see the comparison to seeing Prishe and Lion in some cutscenes, at all, compared to spending thousands of hours fighting and dying alongside my Fellow as he crawled through endless slow levels.:cool:

I admit I misunderstood. For some reason I took it as lore-wise rather than experience-wise. From a lore standpoint the connection with Prishe is far superior to that of your relationship with your Adventuring Fellow in many ways. From an experience standpoint Adventuring Fellows have a vastly superior relationship with a player.

I really like this idea of a new job for our favorite npc fellow friends. I'd like to see corsair actually. I was thinking geo would be cool but the fellow would probably lose mp too fast with how they can be, lol.

Yer. It's not that fellows are much more... er, not-empty, but they certainly are more fun all in all.

One of the reasons I dislike faith trust is that I actually don't want those characters to be out there with me.

That may seem weird to many, and I understand others are exhilarated about it, that's fine, but I don't feel a mighty warrior such as Tenzen would not have something better to do than go level up with me. Her highness Nashmeira (or Aphmau) probably wouldn't frolic around with me even if she much desired for it.

Not to mention spoilers when it comes to Lion, but at least I can go for that boat-ride we spoke of (or at least her alter ego can).


Anyblue, I guess the short of it is: they seem out-of-place to me, be they doppelgängern or not. ^^;

Well they did clerify it's only a clone of them if you read the cutscene dialogs. So they're not necessarily out there with you in person, just a substitute I guess you could say. Shouldn't really be anything weird about it in my honest opinion. At any rate though, you're not forced to use the Alter Egos if you don't want to use them because they make you feel uncomfortable. Just remember not to spoil the fun for the crowd that enjoys them.^^

Curious as to when and if Square Enix will finally add a mechanic to Adventuring Fellows that allows them to learn from us. I saw some stuff mentioned in here I was just thinking about the other day! It would be awesome if they would automatically /heal when 25% and lower MP or 50% and lower HP! Maybe, just maybe they will make Fellows AI function much like Avatars one day, heck that'd even be a useful mechanic for Alter Egos too! Sometimes we play on jobs that we rather not be up and close with monsters with!

So to simplify things.
Give us the toggle command to make our Fellows act like Summoner Avatars with the auto-assist function.
Give us a BLM, RNG, and BRD class Fellow finally!

It is somewhat odd that they didn't add commands for fellows to begin with. They seem to make use of the pet features quite a bit (for one, the game itself calls them pets). Perhaps a lot of those features could simply not be implemented with the time, money, and motivation they had. It would certainly make sense to have battle commands and such since mages might want to rest while their fellow is attacking (and vice versa).

I wouldn't be surprised if they felt it being 'too much automation', much like faithy trusts can't fight without you fighting (though that might just be the only way they could make them attack right now).

Well one can only hope that maybe they will rework both Fellows and Alter Egos to work more efficiently. Because the way I see it, no way can we utilize Cherukiki properly in drawn out solo fighting when she hits rock bottom on MP and you just didn't feel like stopping to recast her, cause well...she just wastes a chunk of MP rebuffing again anyways. I don't know, lol. I would imagine the characters who do not fight should atleast have some sort of Auto Refresh III trait at the very least.

Along with that, the Healer class Alter Egos should definitely have the ability to heal without needing to engage in battle. I can't say I'm 100% pleased with Alter Egos, but they do make it easier to exp, merit, and point farm. DD Alter Egos are just about next to useless on 119~ content though, pretty horrble damage output, even the whole Aldo, Lion, and Zeid combo. Oh well, let's hope we get some insight on this topic though. I still want to see Fellows get some reworking.

I wonder when Camate will get to us on this idea/request. Would be nice to see some overhauls to the Adventuring Fellows/addition of new fighting styles.

Would be great to see Ninja Fellow too, haha. Dual wield any of the One-Handed weapons, how great would it be?!^^

I'd be happy even if they didn't feel like putting out the effort to think up a quest and just add the use of more jobs.

I mostly want:
Ranged Attacker (stands 15' away from the mob unless she has hate)
Magical Attacker (stands 15' away from the mob unless she has hate)
Storyteller (Casts level dependent bard songs and melee attacks; songs: Elegy, Requiem, Finale, Nocturne, Ballad, Scherzo, March, Minne, Minuet, Madrigal)
Soothing Healer (stands 15' away from the mob unless she has hate)

All forms have auto-regen+((Lv./10)+1), auto-refresh+((Lv./20)+1), Haste+(Lv./4; CAP:25)
Attacker forms have more Double attack/counter/Store TP as Lv. increases ...not sure how much is appropriate.
Shield forms have Damage taken -(Lv./2, CAP:50)
Magical attacker has Magic Damage +(Lv. x2) and Magic Attack Bonus +Lv.

Many mage/ranger mobs already function similarly to this when HP > 50% they engage but do not approach beyond a certain point. Just remove the HP dependence from that code when copying it over to Adventuring Fellows.

Fellows don't have gear to increase their stats like players do. They can't be used in battlefields, so giving them stronger stats to approach what players reach at those levels should not be an issue.


Fun thought for another class:
Pirate (Treasure Hunter equal to the Trait of a THF, uses dice roll with addition of Random Dice (Same as Goblin Dice from NM goblins in Dynamis, but with a 0.5% chance to bust/Perfect, causes Death to herself/Target))

So you just want our existing soothing healer stand away from the mob then?

But the quest with them is what (in my opinion) makes them better then the trust, and not something tacked on. Once again in my opinion
