IMO, one of the *BEST* support-role jobs in abyssea! Carols turn super annoying NM's into pesky flys, mambo's make them whiffing-machines, and march makes everyone love you! And who doesn't love those threnody yellow-procs?
It makes me slightly sad inside that when I finally got it leveled it started overshadowing all my other jobs in terms of usefulness... nobody wants my monk anymore, they just want more bard :p

They're not needed though. Hopefully more content will be added that makes BRD a must-have job.
As for Threnody procs, you can just have a BLM sub BRD, Elemental Seal+Threnody is much more reliable than trying to spam it until it sticks. -

I have yet to see a BLM sub BRD that can make threnody stick, even with Elemental Seal. On the other hand, I have yet to see a mob resist threnodies when on BRD main. Play the job well and you can get stellar results. Sadly few can from my experience.

The whole BLM/BRD thing works but that's usually because most of the BRD's now level in Abyssea and their skills are worthless.
I was lucky I was a brd long before this abyssea crap came out so my skills were capped and then when I returned I leveled outside of Abyssea until 85-90 and then after I hit 90 and merited out I went to Sea and skilled up on those Dolphin things for a few hours.
Sadly not everyone actually caps their skills anymore, but if they did they would be able to hit a target in 1 or 2 shots rather then having them "Spam" a mob in hopes of hitting it. -

That confuses me. I capped my BRD skills *IN* abyssea, from 75-90, in regular exp parties. It's much more reliable and much faster. Frankly, there are no mobs in sea that you can skill up on at those levels, and the goldfish (I'm assuming you're talking about Hpemde mobs) are only level 77 at max.

On those days, for a quick and reliable seal/+2 item farming, we'll have our Mnk as the tank/dd, the Thf who is /nin for the majority of the possible ninjutsu spells, the Whm for healing and the Divine spells for light proc, a Blm/Brd to cover the whole Black Magic line as well as Threnody, and myself on Blu to cover the Blue Magic spells. We'll leave the threnody for the last possible proc since that's going to be limited to when Elemental Seal is up, but outside of mobs that are just flat out immune to spells of that element, I've yet to see a circumstance where Elemental Seal + Threnody gets resisted.Quote:

No not really. It's possible to land it with 3 macc atma and ascetics drink, but generally not worth it. Just have your BLM sub bard.

I'm loving the ability to utilize different songs that normally never got sung because of the 'omg only enhance this always' norm.
I don't like the fact that nobody normally includes a BRD for anything unless the BLM they currently have doesn't have BRD available to sub, but that's why I love having a group of friends to do stuff with all the time. -

BRD will always be the first job I level cap with since its been 75, because everyone wants it in an experience party but no need for it when it comes to low manning anything. I have been resisted everytime I subbed /BRD (I haven't fought every NM in abyssea but the ones I have). ES + Threondy is the only way to stick something as a sub BRD has C skills and so as a /brd your not going to get procs without it most of the time. Im not quite capped on skills but I have noticed that Requiem is resisted an A LOT on NM's that and elergy. This isn't just worms Im talking about I have fought a lot of different mobs in abyssea and it is terrible not being able to land a DoT on a NM.

as for elegy, i only get resist by the NM immune to that spell and i have a nice chr/mac setup and usually use at least a superior mac atma, sometimes two... -

Urgh, I had tried to help a friend proc yellow on Koios in Abyssea - Altepa, and happened to be on BRD/NIN at the time (popped an Ascetic's tonic, alllllmost capped skills)... the only thing that would stick with all my spamming was Earth Threnody, for obvious reasons... but on second thought, maybe I forgot to put on any magic accuracy atma? Next time, I came back BLM/BRD for more chances at getting yellow, and Elemental Seal + Ice Threnody stuck with absolutely no problem. I did pack on tons of magic accuracy that time for sure, but it still says a fulltime BRD isn't needed in a large number of situations. Our linkshell hesitates to bring players on BRD rather than other jobs, unless an NM really calls for Carols. I enjoy BRD outside of Abyssea (especially in Dynamis), but at least the way we run things, goofing off on another job while a mule handles threnodies just seems like it would be much more appealing on runs. :( Otherwise, I just feel like I'm converted into a back-up healer most of the time if I go BRD.

I started off as a career BLM, switched to career BRD as soon as I hit 75 with it and enjoyed the game a -lot- more, and now I've switched back to BLM now that Abyssea is out. I go BLM/BRD a lot - it's damn near impossible to land Threnodies without ES, but you generally only need to land one every ten minutes anyway.
I'd love for BRD to be relevant again, but I don't really see it being relevant in XP parties in Abyssea (since the BRD buffs are unnecessary compared to the buffs from Atma), and I only see it being relevant in outside-Abyssea events inasmuch as the outside-Abyssea events are made relevant again by SE's content updates. (Which is what I'm hoping for; in the meantime I'm enjoying BLM again for the first time in years, so I'm not unhappy.)
It's a crying shame that we finally got movement speed boots at the precise time when we didn't terribly need them anymore, though ;) -

Your right it does get resisted and that I think is why I originally made the comment, its because its always resisted and it sucks since its a DoT and DoT's are very useful for instance that megaworm mikey wiki states it can be soloes by any job that DoT's, this is not true since BRD can DoT but it will probably never stick (not saying it would be efficient but if I had the time saved up from a party and wanted to burn some time down instead of wasting it).. Its more or less I just wanted to SqEnix to look into that and see if they could work on it since I have limited things I can do as a BRD and keeping DoT was always something that kept me entertained during fights as a BRD in a pt..

bard is an awesome job, it gets alot of love from other players, mostly because it's such a pain in the butt to play that other players will never do it. what those other players refuse to understand is that the reason bard is such a pain to play IS the other players! noone will maintain position so you can use songs efficiently, they all want songs that are really only of benefit to them-not the party, they don't know the best song for the situation but insist that you double-march them when what they realy need is Scherzo>>Mambo, we're expected to work 3 times as hard as the other jobs getting off 3 sets of songs while pulling and sleeping everything and they still complain that we are too slow. Unfortunately, SE made the proper response to that kind of party (pull a HUMONGOUS group of mobs, horde lullaby, drop party and warp out leaving them to deal with it on their own) a serious no-no as an MPK.
