Ok, I got it. Fill in the SE ID spot and then it will ask you for your password. Use whatever you use to login on the website.

after entering your member password, click on settings and enter your SE id, click ok, then enter your SE password. then you may resume your addiction

I am doing exactly what everyone in this thread has said to do and yet it still says incorrect Playonline ID or password.
how can I have the wrong password if I am posting on this forum????

For those who cant log because of the SE account link, you gotta go to your member info when u go to playonline. Under Square Enix ID, set ur SE ID and make sure u have ur POL pw saved aswell (for those using the token, make sure under "one time password", u have "use" on). once u do that, all u have to do now is use ur SE account pw to log instead of using ur pol pw. hope this helps :)

OK problem solved.

Once you get to the screen where you can edit member passwords and settings...
Below the field that displays your POL ID
you have the Save/not set toggle
and below that you have Playonline Password
In the playonline password field you are going to type the old password that you used to have to type in to log in to the game.

then when you get to where you used to type in that old password you will now type in your Square Enix ID.
