Ok we all understand the Balance within Final Fantasy XI and understanding that moving on. There are Members that would like for this system (PvP) to be implemented, Some wouldn't like it to be, As for me I really haven't made up my mind about it yet, Reason why, I been looking @ Conquest, Campaign, as well as other systems within game as it already is.
Another thing to think about is "Job" Balance. We all know some jobs overpower others that being said moving on, Every Job for the most part plays differently. But wouldn't it be very cool if you have won on a "Job" by battling against a "Job" that could overpower you?
Now looking into how the System is with Conquest and Campaign, Where players or Fiends control an area for that "Tally" Reward going to the winning team.
Now for the System I came up with, Its on going Campaign not like Ballista where you have to wait for times, Also 4 teams plus 4 other teams which are the "Beastmen", Yag, Gob, Orc, Undead, And they want control of Said area think of "Candy" out of Whitegate kind of System. Adding 4 more teams being Mob's would help those that don't want PvP which they could battle instead of using the PvP System and get points that way for their "Team".
Also 4 Teams of a different "Allegiance" PCs could Teamup Vs. the other 4 Teams "Allegiance" NPCs to help each other out. Note: Teams White: (Windy Yellow), (Bast Blue), (Sandy Red), (Jeuno Green), Can team up anytime. Teams Black: Yag, Gob, Orc, Undead, Can team up anytime.
Ok there's an area where you would zone into there's 8 sides "Teams" you can only choose from 4, Will just use colors for now: Red, Blue, Yellow, Green. Think of a big map, and PCs and NPCs walking around "Unclaimed" You have the option to put PvP up. Depending on which color "Allegiance" you picked that's the team you're working for. Ok Bob, Will, Sue, Tim, Reason why these Members are battling it out, Cause they want their side to be able to Do BCNMs, KSNMs, Quests, Each sides has different "Ones" and different rewards for that area. Also can be like a "Capture the flag" which the winning "Team" Would get Xp bonuses for that "Tally".
Claimed: If Tim and Sue, is battling it out no one can join unless their on the same team and within the party.
Now lets say: Will, and Bob, battling it out and Ken, zones in and realize Bob, is battling it out with Will, Ken, Would put their PvP up and ask Bob, does he need/want a hand. Now if Bob, doesn't want to be bothered with Members "Asking" he would have "Block on. Its up to Bob, to accept the help or not, Which if he does accept will invite Ken, to party. Also Ken, Didn't have to join Bob, He could of just went on his way looking for NPC or a PC to PvP with, But knowing Bob, He wanted to help a Buddy out.
Ok now for Sue, She doesn't like PvP at all but she doesn't have to put her PvP up. Sue, Would still have to pick a side "Allegiance" Cause Sue, Will be battling against the "Beastmen" In order to do the BCNMs, KSNMs, Quests, that area.
Reason PvP could help FFXI: We all don't want Final Fantasy XI to die, This could bring in more Members.
PS: I'm not for PvP and not against it, Just trying to understand it.

I'm def pro PvP. Consensual only of course. The system you've described would provide hours of enjoyment for people with minimum dev costs. Why anyone would be against it baffles me.

-End pointless "my dad is better than your dad" arguments.
-Artificially increase the difficulty of content.
-Inject some competition into a game lacking in competition.
-Play the game in a way most haven't experienced.

It wouldn't matter if they was to add it. It would be just as dead as ballista is on all but few servers is the fact that so few players WISH to take part in any form of PvP in the game. If you wish to do PvP there is Ballista and a few others if its dead on your server find the ones where its active and strong and move to that server. I'm sorry but that is how it is the Dev's can't fix the players views of PvP.

Look up the thread PVP on here there is alot talk already on this.... I am personaly want to see a free roam zone that people could stay out if they dont like. Or enter PvP (or teams like party or allaince) and roam kill others. If you dont like it just dont go to that zone. As I stated in other threads alot games have arena based PvP. So does this they just are not used at all if any. Incorperating ideas for a reward system would be nice to get more players involved in this. making it super complex would sorta suck I think ><; I can see keeping the gear swap penaly but just make a free roam pvp area that all can enter maybe put in mobs like in the colussem or what not... I dont want reput what I did in the other thread but there is on on this already >..> And i do agree I shouldnt have play other games to PvP if I want to! If you dont like it stay out the areas. With FFXI being as dynamic as it is I am sure you PvP haters could do something always... like go fishing :)

Only the ones that are for PvP would be interested in such items as for the rest such gear would be of no value the fact is such players are the minority and some knowing this have moved to the server(s) where Ballista and other PvP events are going strong. As for Morgantisthedon idea the day they add that is the day I leave FF 11 for good as all such things lead to is ganking.

I don't really care if PvP is added. I might just try it out once then barely do it again unless it yields some really good reward. If others want it though and SE managed to add it in, then sure why not.

Since I been on this game since 2004 ps2 relase I shouldnt have to play other games to want experiance it since this game already offers it. It just needs to be revamped in my thoughts. Thats just me though.

Take Pankration, throw players into the ring, PVP, done. Give them some Gil for winning or a buff of some sort. Reward, PVP, non-normal game screwing. Everyone wins.

Saying ballista, and Brenner are perfect PvP experiences in today's MMO market is just silly. They are far too restrictive. It shouldn't be a challenge for people to find the spot where the PvP area is. Entrance fee should be gil based only. This idea that people keep tossing around for one central PvP experience whether it is a zone to itself or a coliseum type place inside a major city hub makes perfect sense. No one is being forced to PvP. It doesn't need ridiculous rewards, just something decent. Say a cross between fov rewards/random stuff that drops from chests. Have it str8 up uncapped, no atmas, and a gear swap penalty and your good to go. Very simple, and streamlined which is far more than can be said of the current PvP options.

Everyone and their mother gear swaps. Gear swapping is pretty much the point of PVP; to use your better gear (and skill) to win. If you can't use all your gear then you might as well not go. I for one, would never participate if there was a penalty. Just make the target not change when people gear swap. -

Provided SE could make it so no one blinked when swapping I'd be all for swaps. However if that's not an option it would be exploited by third party programs.

If they're not banning people for flee hacking I doubt they will ban people who you whine about using third party programs in Pvp. Also the situation would be different depending on whether it was just a PvP zone, or whether they went with the "duel" command. At least with the Duel command you could decline to fight some one again who you had previously witnessed cheating.

As someone offered in another thread if the "Duel" option route was taken there could be something in the configurations to "Always ignore" PvP requests. Sure that would be a simple addition.

I just wanted to clarify a issue concerning gear swaps in PVP. Unlessyou use a blinkmenot program available via windoer(i dont i play on 360 and or ps2 and use my pc look stuff up) When somone swaps gear via a macro or a hack(mostly via macro like a tp and haste build to a str gear swap for ws's) It causes you to lose the seleceted target from your sight. To make it fair since people could sitationaly bink all the time I beleive SE incopreated the penalty for swapping gear like they have in brenner and in ballista. I do agree this would be needed if a offshoot format was made. OR something like a autolock system where if they did swap gear you wouldnt lose them. Seeing the dynamics of the issue of programing it would take to do that I think it is more fesable to still incoperate the gear swap penility if a new system was made or incoperating utalizing the same rule as they have for that there.... Its simple instead of macro swapping for stuff come in in "universal gear" and not worry about penalties

One reason I chose to play XI over many MMORPGS is because it is not heavily PvP based. Once you add heavy PvP and/or online multiplayer to games, I think it starts to kill the main point of the game off IMO... take almost any recently FPS game for example.

However asking for one centralized area for PvP be it it's own zone or a Coliseum type deal in a major city is hardly saying the game will be heavily skewed toward PvP. The fact is there are a lot of players who stand around bored out of their skull in town for most of the day. Seems that from a business stand point it would be smart to implement a low dev cost activity that can occupy a % of those bored end gamers, and help to retain their subscriptions. This idea paired with a decent expansion for 91-99 End game would go a long way towards retention, and IMO recalling inactive accounts/creating new ones.Quote:

The only way it would work would be a separate area you could go to do it. I think that perhaps they should just fix up Ballista and Brenner to make them more interesting and useful.
