IMO it's down to FFXIV's failure, but I personally have nothing against FFXIV and will possibly move to that game because that is very clearly where ALL of SE's attention is now, but the lack of money after the first release has meant they need to bleed a source dry to make up for the loss. Unfortunately for us the source they chose was FFXI, but I highly doubt anything good will now come from FFXI, and will keep getting bugs and gameplay issue that will never be fixed. Just look at the update today, so many people trying to get on but all bottlenecked on Playonline (always has been the worst client ever to have been designed, has had way too many issues even from the very beginning), but SE have done nothing, and haven't even addressed the situation except 1 news update saying it's congested. Yes SE thanks, we can see that! This game is pretty much dead from what I can see, in terms of getting updates anyway. The servers are up simply because people still pay, but that doesn't make it "alive".
