Rune Fencer Tidbits?

Any chance we can get a better idea of what enhancing magic Rune Fencers are going to get access to?

Also, MP pool. Somewhere near PLD or closer to RDM?

I know I don't need to make a Ragnarok or Caladbolg, since they can't use them. Any insight as to what kind of offensive abilities they will have?

FOR MP: Neither, they don't use MP, they use Runes.

From the sounds of it, their offensive capabilities are "can use Great Sword." It seems to be mostly a defensive job.

Also, as mentioned, they don't have magic. Runes are their own separate thing.

If I'm not mistaken SE contradicts themselves on this. If I remember correctly they have said a few times they would have Enhancing magic but they would not be a magic job, which makes no sense. So honestly thats the question we need answered 1st, will Rune have any magic? If so, what will it be, and how much MP will it have to spend on its magic?

I believe I heard it mentioned that they will in fact use MP. I'll try to find the post, but I'm sure I heard it somewhere.

Pray deeply from whatever secret place you keep your hope that this isn't the case. If it's a purely defensive job then it'll never be used, ever.

In case nobody's here has actually been playing the game, we don't use tanks anymore as their worthless. A super Brochain PLD can do absolutely nothing except hold a NM or adds. The "tank" can never hold hate, the DD's can't "hold back" or you'll time our / wipe, and even then the NM just goes "GRRR DIE!!" and everyone (except the PLD) takes 1500~2000+ damage. So even if the PLD was able to hold hate it wouldn't do any good as everyone else would be dead. Blame SE's shitty game design, they refused to update hate / damage mechanics and instead of creating AI they instead made every single NM require Perfect Defense or Fanatics Drinks to survive.

SE needs to completely redo their NM stats, reduce their aoe damage output by 50~75% or more, otherwise it's just requires PD. Then reduce hate from damage to 25% of it's current value (same with cures) and increase hate gained via JA / Flash while giving *tank* jobs some additional hate tools. Only way a tank can possibly "tank" is if they can generate more hate with their tools then a melee can going full bore.

Week 1: They wont have magic.
Week 2: They will have magic.

Until Rune Fencer is actually out, it's pretty much up in the air what they are going to be. This isn't even factoring in that they could have a Ninja situation and have some completely broken ability that makes them ideal at a different role than they were designed for.

Didn't even think about that.

Also, glad someone else saw the post of them having MP and Enhancing magic.

No items, it utilizes abilities to activate offensive or defensive runes and MP consumption for enhancing magic.

Runes are non-consumables, they are simply JAs so far as I gather.

The Vanafest interview says otherwise and they keep dodging the question. They compared to job to Ninja as well once and it doesn't matter if abilities are needed to activate runes, Quick Draw is also a job ability and it uses cards.
Seems like they're getting all the bad ideas from the tank jobs we have and create a new one out of it. Let's hope for the best.

Where exactly did SE say Rune Fencer is linked to consumable items in comparison to ninja? The Vanafest feed (Engrish) I watched was a bit jumpy at times and I must have missed it.

Why does nobody mention SAM when they say this? It was as well known SE had said SAM was designed as a tank.

Well there is a difference, SAM can tank through DD & Seigan/Third-Eye where as NIN was meant to be a ranged attacker/DD and ended up as a Tank. I think SAM fit alot of the role it was given, except that with the fall of tanking its DDing still keeps as it a playable job. In events where NIN cant tank, NIN is at best a procer, almost never a DD.

Again: Quick Draw is a JA and it consumes cards.

Because Samurai wasn't actually poorly designed for what they were supposed to do originally. The reason Samurai never really caught on as a tank was because Parry was so difficult to level up. Without nearly capped Parry, Samurai couldn't tank better than pretty much any other melee class subbing Warrior. In addition, anyone that didn't actually know Samurai was supposed to be a parry tank would just assume they were a DD due to their weapon selection, armor options, and abilities. The AF is probably the first clue most people had they were intended to be a tank and by then, they had been playing them as DD for a long time.

Ninja, on the other hand, couldn't do their job effectively. Their damage, especially back then, was pretty lousy for a class intended as a DD. Their debuffs were also pretty pathetic due to how difficult Ninjutsu was to level up. Even if you had Ninjutsu capped, the only unique debuffs Ninja has are the elemental ones, which just aren't good enough to build your entire class on. So a DD with enfeebling did lackluster damage and most of their debuffs are castable by multiple jobs. However, Utsusemi, which was just intended as a safety net ability made them nearly invincible in some situations when used properly.
