blue Mage tanking

can a blue mage tank an Abyssea NM?
if so what atma's are they using?

The exact same atmas you use for DDing, unless you're talking about soloing.

EDIT: GH can be used depending on some NMs, I've heard of Roaring Laughter with /mnk but never tried it personally.

/mnk using orcish counterstance and counsterstance and some counter+ atma is alot of fun

Yes BLU can tank, but not all people can handle tanking with BLU. Nor is it always the most effective tanking method such as NIN in Abyssea.

Just as every job, Yes BLU can tank, and you for the most part wont need to do so without only the usual DD ATMA.

What the heck are you talking about, expecially inside abyssea. There isn't a DD job that should have problems 'tanking' inside abyssea.

Anyone have tips that I can pass on to a BLU about tanking Amphitrite during the magic phase? Especially if it spawns in magic phase, so the NIN or MNK don't have hate on it yet.

I recently fought Amphitrite with my small group - I was the main healer - didnt plan on being the tank but I ended up tanking most of the time. White Wind is your friend - the spell is based on your max HP - use HP+ gear and 1 HP+ atma and you will be fine between spamming white wind, fruit and embrace. I used Ebon, Future Fabulous & MM. You will be able to easily outpace the poison. You should have over 4000 HP.

Make sure Sudden Lunge is part of your spells set, and have evasion set gears + job traits enabled, attack swords or evasion sword magian trials, knows how to SC and MB and a good White Mage. Just like all posters said, almost every single DD jobs pretty much can tank in abyssea with a good white mage and if you know how to gear and use atmas.

Pretty much the same way anybody kills anything on Blue Mage. The first step is to figure out which moves you really need or want to Stun by looking at a wiki entry if you don't already have that in mind.

Sudden Lunge is the only truly vital spell, Triple Attack and Dual Wield III are the only truly vital traits. Spells that critical will do solid damage since Briareus Gigaspants lives in a ????apple under Abyssea-LaTheine. If needed, Auroral Drape and a hybrid evasion set help immensely to reduce the damage output of just about anything in the earlier Abyssea zones.

How fast you can kill Briareus compared to how safe you'll need to be will depend on whether you're solo or with a healer. Also a vital determinant, how much lead-based paint that healer drinks each morning.

If you're low on -DT gear, you may wish to use a -DT atma, due to the huge back-to-back TP moves that Briareus can do.
