Why are you screwing people with better systems?

I thought SE made a big deal about its next generation engine, one that today's systems can't even run, so as to push the stagnant console market to better levels?

Both XBOX and PS have not updated in years!

The next expansion for FFXI "Seekers of Adoulin" will only work on PC or XBOX 360.

Why are penalizing those of us on better systems!

Whatever the framerate is, its been this way for 10 years!

I, for one, am very unhappy about this!

For those of you playing on your broken-down PS2, upgrade if you don't like your frame rate! Don't make me suffer for your decision.

A higher framerate actually makes it harder to successfully catch fish. This change will actually help legitimate fishers with faster systems, not hurt them.

Not sure where you've been, but the new expansion IS coming out for the PS2... just not outside of Japan. And Japan is the home market so it's not that much of a stretch to guess who Square will cater to more. Just saying, you're ranting at a brick wall.

Im not exactly sure what theyre changing, but if they change it so that opening 15 youtube videos doesnt make catching fish easier, I will be sad.

FFXI's client-side logic is tied to the frame-rate, and having it run a perfect 30 actually made the fishing harder. The update lowers the frame-rate to 15fps to make it more managable so your rod isn't swinging back/forth non-stop on harder fish.

Not like the majority of the PC fisherman would know that given how many afk folks I see in such areas....

You should read my earlier comment about PC fisherman, it probably explains why tons of people dont know about it. Dropping your FPS to 5 is super win for PC fishing.

As some players have been testing out these adjustments on the test server, there were some comments mentioning that the processing felt a bit laggy.

Yoji Fujito mentioned in a post on the JP forum that there is a possibility that this could be a bug due to the imposed frame rate limitation; however, the original goal was to eliminate the difference between PC capabilities as well decrease the gap between different platforms, so slower processing is more or less what was being aimed for.

He also mentioned that the next phase of these fishing adjustments is to change the system so that instead of fish HP decreasing while you constantly hold down the directional keys, HP will decrease if you hit the directional key once.

If you haven’t tried it out for yourself yet, we highly recommend you test it out and let us know your feedback so we can relay it to the Development Team while it is still on the test server.

But I don't like tap fishing. It's a recipe for repetitive stress injuries.

That tends to happen when one limits FPS from 30 to 15. ^^;

I'm pretty sure it's not a bug, but rather the result of going down to 15 frames per second from 30. This tends to vary from person to person as we don't see things exactly the same way, especially when it comes to FPS.

Does this mean that you will only need to press left once, and it will continue to 'go left' until the fishy pulls the other direction?

It looks horrendous, as lowering FPS from 30 to 15 oft does, but I guess it sort of helps to balance the „difficulty” since FPS does tend to affect FFXI in many ways...

I may or may not upload a video at some point to show it to others who don't feel like hopping on the test-server. Will see how it come out.

Only feedback I can relay that will likely not happen is that the devs should really consider unlocking the rendering portion of their engine away from the game logic processing for PC/360. It'd have the benefit of allowing you to throttle down the logic without affecting the game's graphical rendering process, as well as being able to render above 30fps without the game going funky.

I could go for FFXI rendering at 60fps v-sync'd. Silky-smooth with no screen tearing.

i think by once they mean you just it the button once per direction change but instead of holding down the button we just tap it.

its annoying with a controler cuz we use anilog sticks for movement/fishing which move in a 360 axis from a singular point. And at times and slight movement can cause you to lose your catch.

if you do something like sneeze or jump "50ft" from something scaring you this can cause ur thumb to the stick since its on a free standing singular point.

That changes absolutely nothing on something like a Ryugu Titan where the position changes half a dozen times every second. They should be taking steps to make tap-fishing less of a necessity.

So you're not "losing your catch" you're just not catching anything which is why I wanted you to tell me what you meant. Once on a hook the only way to lose your catch is to back button or run out of time.

It may not be feasible to untie frame rate from game logic at this point. So many teams of people have come and gone on this game that the current team may have no idea where to begin on that front.

I've seen cases of people being temp banned for a bad hardware combination that made the game run at an unlocked framerate, and that made their character always move at more than 100% speed, which got a GM called on them. It was outside their control, but they got a mark on their record for it.

They're doing a whole new UI for the PC release of the game. I would say our expectations of what's feasible need to be adjusted since a lot of changed/been tweaked to XI in the past year alone.

pretty much that, which does make you loose your catch. I'm not nor did say happen alot but a few.
Plus i'm used to that style of fishing in Zelda.

But as i asked/stated.... you must have never played a zelda game. ffxi's "new" fishing style actually takes a page out of Zelda ocarina of time fishing. Its similar, just minus you hold down the directional. In Zelda you tap to a button to real in the rish along with keeping the line straight. (thois is from memory of 10 years aho mind you)
Also Zelda combat is action based so you are constently taping the attack button.

So i see no need to make a complaint over tapping vs holding.
I also play fighting games like soul calibur. If you are not used to these games i guess i can see a worry, but you don't get stress related injuries from tapping. You can on the kinect or wii.

If you'd ever tried to fish up a Ryugu Titan on a high end PC you wouldn't be making such comments.

P.S.
You most definitely can get repetitive stress injuries from performing repetitive motions in excess, which is exactly what tap-fishing entails, moreso than most action games. I speak from personal experience on this matter.

Yes you do.

From the way it was worded, I for one still need a confirmation if they actually intend to make it so that you have to be tapping they key(s) to get anything done. While I sometimes actually use tapping to my advantage as it feels easier to not press the wrong direction with some fishies, I certainly wouldn't have fished as much if I had to be tapping all the time.

It definitely isn't healthy!

I was speaking from experince. I play'ed every zelda game 8+ hours a day the combat in zelda is very very button mashy. I have never hurt myself playing these games, or mortal combat, or soul calibur 3 4 or 5.

Never got one from morrowind, oblivion or skyrim either. (again button mashy.)

I did get a stress injury from my job as I was a bagger for a suprer market.

stress injuries only happen in repeated motion of joints. My question is, your pressing a button how much joint movement are you actually doing....
stress inguries only effect joins thats why I said wii and kinect since you really move your joints repeatedly.

and realistically.... it was your assumption I was trying to discredit you. Just pointing a buton mashy game to compare.

they also did fishing just by hiting ebter at the right time, but the timing was so random thats why they added the directional game from the get go.
