Thief's Knife - Updated.

I've been playing THF for a long time now. I personally think you've got the job spot on and the updates - while some disagree - have been pretty decent too!

Anyways, to the point:
I'd like to see you consider a possible upgrade to Thief's Knife. Through Trails of Magians or just a straight upgrade.

Looking at (Lv. 75): It was somewhat acceptable to use Thief's Knife as a sub-weapon. The damage did not fall too shy of the main hand weapon - (Mandau 39, Blau Dolch 33, Thief's Knife 28). At this stage the difference in damage was very small and thus it wasn't a problem full-timing Thief's Knife for events like Dynamis and NMs.

Looking at (Lv. 99): Not really acceptable.. The difference is very noticable just by looking at the damage via normal attacks. Now the difference is much larger - (Mandau 59, Lux 48, Thief's Knife 28). You can't really full-time Thief's Knife for events like Dynamis, especially if you're soloing!

At (Lv. 75):
- MandauTHF (11 DMG difference, Thief's Knife DMG being 71% of Mandaus)
- BlauDolchTHF (5 DMG difference, Thief's Knife DMG being 84% of BlauDolch)

At (Lv. 99):
- MandauTHF (31 DMG difference, Thief's Knife DMG being 47% of Mandaus)
- LuxPagioTHF (20 DMG difference, Thief's Knife DMG being 58% of LuxPagio)

Thief's Knife Lv. 99 - DMG: 42, Delay: 194. Treasure Hunter +1 (+2? Or is that too optimistic!?)

I guess what provoked me into creating this post was Dynamis. While you may argue the difference between TH7 and TH8 is a completely unoticable difference... It still remains there is a difference. Inside dynamis it is a pain (if you want to run a steady TH7) to constantly swap between knifes because Thief's Knife really doesn't cut it. Also, the change causes your TP to drop to 0. I think you could argue that if Thief's Knife was upgraded ever so slightly, keeping it on throughout the run would be more productive than constantly swapping it in and out (how things used to be at 75, imo).

A lot of players don't take much pride in Thief. They do see this class as a job which provides TH and little else. Even for these players this upgrade would be very very welcome - it pleases all. Also, for those that moan about Thief not getting what they want from updates; this is a small thing to implement to keep them happy!

Maybe i'm nit-picking a bit. But it's a Thief's Knife. I'd like to see an upgrade to something so important to our job class!

There is one still open on the first page of the THF forums, the one I linked to.

Maybe an all out upgrade to THF's knife with TH+50 just to prove that it's still not really doing anything.

I'll still refuse to not use it though... just in case >.>

Not saying I wouldn't take an improved TK, but if your concern is dynamis, unless they made the new TK on par with things like STR Thokcha (which they certainly won't) it will never be as good as just killing faster. If a stronger offhand results in you killing 1 more mob in the allotted 2 hours you've already outpaced whatever bonus drops you may have gotten from having a TH+1 knife equipped.

If we're talking about something like salvage where there is time to spare at the end then by all means use a TH+1 knife, if they make one that doesn't absolutely suck.

The general consensus in the other thread is that a macro-able piece of gear that gives TH+1 when TK isn't equipped would be outrageously better than being tied to an unswappable sub par weapon.

They should have just stuck TH+1 on Aluh Jambiya and called it a day.

Using a stronger off-hand in dynamis sometimes just means I have to turn when the mob hits 5% and it's still not procced >.>

TH on Aluh would have just meant that DWing Aluh and TK would be the norm instead.

Either way, As I'll echo the above. The best option would be a Macro-Able slot like Ring, Earring, Back, Neck, Body, etc etc that has "Latent Effect; TH+1", Latent being no THF Knife on. This would erase any need for equipping a terrible sub-par weapon.

P.S Equipping it in Dynamis is still retarded.

I have to say, especially in dynamis, that TH8 means crap all unless you proc. I was messing around in dynamis-beaucidine because I wanted thoughts and a few AF2 I never got, and if I fought a mob that wasn't ja proc, like drk, I'd pretty much get 0 drops at all. I go back the next day on pup to fight ws mobs instead and end up getting a ton more drops with just TH2. So yeah, at least for dynamis, off handing thf's knife seems like a total waste of freaking time.

Maybe it's because I've never solod dynamis on THF, only duo'd it with other DDs, but I've never found myself wishing that I was doing more damage. Mainly becasue some mobs will take longer to proc, so they're almost dead by the time it's procced. Those that proc straight away you can then use the TP you saved from the last mob and WS them to just about finish them off. If you didn't have TP up, chances are you have 4/5 FMs to reverse flourish then WS.
And since I'm duoing, if I don't have TP, I can trick attack the other DD, they can WS, or if they have hate, I can sneak attack it. Or I just grab another mob and start trying to proc while the other DD finishes it off.

The faster you get it to 5% the faster you can run off and steal a mob from a BST while your friend procs. Killing faster is always better than th+1 in events with time limits. The only excuse for TK in dynamis is if you're just pulling mobs to a brute squad of DDs and running off without attacking.

Depends on which type of mobs you fight, and how you handle pulling. With EP mobs, I can understand that feeling; I feel incredibly inefficient fighting EP mobs because I'm wasting huge amounts of my damage potential (partly due to limitations in how many can be pulled easily). With DC mobs, however, I'm always wanting to eek out a bit more damage to improve kill times, and feel like I'm using most of my potential. [Note: I always go in a party of 2-4; if 3 or 4, one person is a mage.]

As for the Thief Knife, as soon as I got TH6 from other gear, TK went into storage, and I have no intention of ever using it again. The extra TH is not worth the massive reduction in damage output if fulltimed, or the annoying reduction in damage output if you keep swapping it in and out.

Yeah, when I duo it's on EP mobs. Also TK is on my off-hand. Just wanted to point that one out as I didn't specify earlier.
