Since the level cap is not a multiple of 5 now, this enemy ability should be updated to be Petrify LV3. Akvan is very sad that his skill is useless and whenever I see him I imagine a giant tear rolling out of his eye every time he attempts it.

I know that balance is a huge concern for you guys, so maybe making it level 3 would be too strong as it would affect three times the levels. A compromise could be possibly making it Petrify LV11. That way it affects a lesser amount of levels, but would still affect the players at level cap.
Either way, I'm sure you'll have to adjust the length that the petrify lasts to maintain balance. You guys know what you're doing though, so I'm sure you'll come up with a balanced solution. Doubling the effect duration due to less levels affected would be harsh though, I hope you take this into consideration.
Just let Level 5 Petrify be for what it is and add Level 9 Roulette : inflicts a random status effect.
All honesty, I agree, need new level petrify, or just make it so level 5 does all multiplies of 5 plus 99.
Why the hell should level 5 petrify affect someone not on a level multiplied by 5...?
LV5 Petrify is an Ahriman skill, should it not be updated to actually work on level capped characters?
Maybe you don't want any other Ahriman NMs to ever exist again. I know the horror of trying to proc with magic barrier uptime of 80%. It's ok, I understand if you're fearful of a monster.
Ahahaha, yes I'm fearful of a monster any decent group can down in ~3-5 minutes (varies due to barrier, Akvan is not hard and if you think it is I feel sorry for you). Your post was bad and you should feel bad for wasting time typing it out.

I remember people who used to purposely delevel just to avoid this. It's a stupid ability in the first place, the last thing I want is for it to actually work. It's gimmicky and shouldn't exist in the first place. The monster should have been given a worthwhile ability, instead of one that can be avoided by being a certain level.
Really, one of the first things i thought when I heard about lv99 is "sweet, no more lv5 petrify!"
Make it a gaze attack, then it's like medusas who petrify people by looking them in the eye. But really, I don't know why anyone feels the need to have ahrimans be more difficult monsters.
Akvan was introduced to the game after the final level cap was decided to be 99. I.e. SE had to know Level 5 Petrify would eventually have no effect on players. When it did have an effect, it didn't make Akvan harder in any way, shape or form, it was just a complete nuisance for the whm.
Also, I'm willing to bet almost anything that this is a troll thread from an alt.
I actually thought it was a gaze attack for ~5 years. Only 1-2 years ago I realised how it actually worked. I had avoided it on occasion (obviously because I was levelling up in Beaudecine and wasn't a multiple of 5) and assumed I avoided it because I was turning. Only realised for sure when I was backwards tanking and it still hit me >.>

No need to rage at op, I'm sure the devs already know that a 99 cap makes this ability not work as intended and I'm sure they will change it before too long. It's not a big deal one way or the other so why get excited about it.
Or level 5 petrify affecting characters whose level is a multiple of 5 is working like the move is supposed to, just has it has in every over FF with level based spells/abilities.

Yeah it only works if everyone does it. I constantly find myself going through trawls of posts by blacklisted trolls, but the next person to post has quoted them anyway >.>
The blacklist function should remove your privilege to post once 100 people have blacklisted you.^^
A troll is someone that posts things purely to annoy and that has no intrest in the things they post other than making it's readers rage.
Someone that posts something you don't like is not a troll, they just have a different opinion.

That may be true, still reeks of troll when posting from a newly registered lvl 30 character with no AH transactions since the end of july 2011.
Definately trolling if you post for updates that will likely piss people off when you don't even play ffxi yourself.

i really dont understand why would someone be upset a particular monster isn't hard. if the issue was the entire game being a giant cakewalk i might understand... but why does anyone care if they aren't affected by one specific mob's WS? that's like saying genbu's turtle song should affect all buffs instead of songs/rolls because you don't have to bring brd and/or cor to genbu, just like you don't have to bring people whose lvls are multiple of 5 to akvan.
Honestly this has been in many FF games, and I've always counted that as one of the perks of being 99. Even when we were 75 years ago I thought of 99 and how level 5 crap wouldn't work anymore.
They should update Jaggedy-Eared-Jack. It's no longer a threat to level-capped characters.
If SE thinks Level 5 Petrify is not working as intended on NMs, they could simply make a high level/NM version (Level ? Petrify) that affects a random level ending with 0-9.

Level 5 Petrify was never a deadly TP move that caused wipes, it was just annoying. Leave it as it is.
I was surprised they never introduced Lv 5 death!
