Alliance targeting as WHM

I've had a lot of people ask me in-game about how I target and cure people so fast while in an alliance. There's an easy solution for PC gamers. I didn't find this on any other forums, so I thought I'd get the word out here.

In-game, open the config menu, and hit misc2. Click on movement under the key assignment category. Near the bottom of the window that opens, you will see options for Menu/Target Cursor Up and Menu/Target Cursor Down. These commands will allow you to move up and down through the members of your party and alliance. Assign the keys that you want to use to move your target up/down through the alliance. I used the I and K keys. I hope this helps... Let me know if I need to clear something up. :)

Much Much simplier method.

/ma "Cure X" <stal>

will put a -> arrow on the alliance member list, use up / down to select your target.

Also ignores any gear-swaps, no idea if the OP one does.

Works with any and all -other- targetable spells, even party only ones like Regen and Refresh. I've since never missed a cure / buff due to someone blinking like mad.

Yeah, I like to use <stal> for things like Cure, and <stpt> for Regen, Refresh (if RDM) and so on.

Didn't know about either of these methods.

<stal> ignores gear swaps? That would have saved me a lot of headaches earlier... Thanks.

The only problem I have run into with <stal> is that I have to create a whole new set for healing outside of alliance (places like campaign, Power leveling, etc.). Other than that, it works great.

It places a cursor over your name in the alliance player list. You use up / down keys to select the target then enter to cast the spell. Because the target is being selected on the alliance list and not the graphics window it's similar to use someone's name in a macro vs just <t> or <stpt>. Gear swaps won't change your target and your spell will always go off.

Only downside I've noticed with stpt/stal is that it can sometimes take more time to locate a target and run close to them if they're out of magic range. Still beats losing the target all the time, though, but i think it would be better if SE eventually figured out a way to not lose target when changing gear.

Running to someone who is out of range is the same regardless of targeting method. And I don't see how your spending extra time to target them compared to Tab Tab Tab Shift Tab. Only targeting system that is faster is the F1~F6 for party members, but that doesn't work for alliance members which is what we're talking about.

I was talking about party targeting, because I saw that being brought up earlier in the thread. F1-6ing and locking on with "h" will let me instantly run in the direction of the player, meaning I won't have to actually look for where he is before i decide which way to run. It's an advantage targeting the "old" way has over stpt, but this advantage, as i said, doesn't outweight the advantage of not losing target all the time.

Hit F2-6 for the party member that you want to target, hit h to check the direction you're running, then hit the /ma "Cure" <stal> macro. Now if they gear swap while you're running to them, you already have the arrow by their name in alliance list so if they gear swap, you will lose your /lockon but don't have to re-target.

When using <stal> the arrow will start next to your own name if you are targetting a mob/NPC/nothing however, if you are targetting someone in your alliance, it will start next to their name.

Those are just keystrokes. You do use a keyboard right? or do they make those wacky mini keyboard controllers for 360 now? I remember they had something like that for PS2. It was like a giant controller with a mini keyboard in the middle.

No, he's right. Ctrl/Alt F1-F6 targeting is a function of Windower binding. It's loaded in init.txt by default. Xbox, PS2, and non-Windower PC users can't use the additional keys. There are chat commands for alliance targeting if you want to be super tedious, though - otherwise, the Windower binds wouldn't work in the first place.

As you can see, the syntax is similar to the <p1> - <p5> syntax for party targeting. <a10> targets Alliance party 1, member 0. <a24> targets Alliance party 2, member 4. Remember that members are enumerated from 0-5 instead of 1-6 when using direct chatline targeting. Members are listed sequentially as they appear in your party list. Eg, the third person on the list of your party is <p2>.

the correct way to whm macro:to cure anyone w/o even targeting them

you will need 3 pallets to make this work. Making use of ctrl+shift+#(1-3) 1 palet for each party of the alli.

macros for alt and tab #1-6 will be deadicated to party members 1-6 as they are seen listed in party/all window. you always being at the top you your pts list.

Using thease it becomes a visual reacation.

ex: 4th person in party3 needs cure. ctrl+shift+3 > let go of shift > hit #4. person gets cure w/o ever targeting them.

tank in your pt needs cure. hes 2 on your list. alt+shift+1> let go of shift > hit #2 he gets cure.

I didn't realize that that was a windower thing. I've never actually tried to target like that. Good to know.

However, I'll try out this ctrl + shift for pallet swapping, I didn't know there was a kb shortcut for it, only that there was a way to macro it.

If a DD blinks to swap into their PDT set, and you fail to cure them for some reason, then yes it is your fault.

LOL if a DD doesn't blink, then I'm not curing him. The groups probably better off if mister no gear swaps sits this one out.

I'm sorry for the necro bump, but for the sake of educating fellow healers:

If you're running into the issue of players blinking you out, then dying because you couldn't hold target to cast...

/ma "Cure V" <stal>

<stal> gives you the up/down player select that used to be on the PS2. So now you just tap up or down to get to the player in your list. (works for alliance, too).

Of course, if you have a primary tank who needs cures:

/ma "Cure V" "tanknamehere"

This will cure the player specified, AND obviously works outside of party and alliance.

I've always just used <stpc>... never really had a problem. What they need is <stparty>, <stparty2>, and <stparty3> so you can isolate full parties instead of having ot hunt individuals. And fuck F-keys...

What they really need to do is pay the guy who made "Blink me not" a couple hundred bucks to revise his code and make it part of the official client. No dev time required.

There is absolutely nothing dangerous or game breaking about that app that I am aware of other than the fact that it breaks ToS in it's current state. It would be nice if people could use it.
