Learning

I have been playing blu for a little while now, to use it as a sub, and I think the chance of learning new spells is pretty... inconsistent to say the least.

Some spells i have learned in just a few attempts, but currently, I have been killing quadavs for close to 5 hours, and seen the Head Butt move used somewhere around 15 times, and i still haven't learned it.

Perhaps the chance of learning it should increase for each time you see it, making the chance close to 100% after seeing it 3-4 times? Cause this learning business so far hasn't been anything but frustrating.

Healing Breeze took me several hours, as did Bad Breath, at lower levels its seem more random vs high level where you BLU magic tends to be more near your cap and you have AF1 Magus Bazubands for enhance learning.

It's always happen =), i use 2 days for cocoon forget already that take how long til learn. but best way i can suggest is try keep your blue magic skill capped as fast as you can before go learn, it's will a bit help on that,

I was about 3 from capped blue magic, i think. I realize you get that AF gear that'll help you learn more easily, but I just wish it was more consistent. Just now I learned blood drain the first time i saw it, not even trying to learn it.

Im going on 15 hours of playing killing mobs for Bludgeon and seen it well over 100 times and havent learned it yet... Its getting fustrating to say the least.

I went from lvl 8 when I can learn it fighting these mobs till now and im lvl 16 going onto 17.

of course as soon as I bitch about it on here I get it. lol

Yeah that's what I'm talking about. I'm not saying every spell should be learnable instantly, but there should be some mechanisms in place to avoid ridiculous things like these. Increasing the chance of learning a spell for each time you see it could work.

It can get randomly crazy sometimes, and I mostly agree with your idea (though I'd say more like it'd be nearly 100% after say, seeing it about 10 times; 3-4 is a bit too fast). However, it sounds to me like that'd be hard to program into the game. :/

What you'll be experiencing as long as you play BLU is that mobs will often refuse to use the spell you want to learn, even if it's something you always saw them use often before. And then once you learn it, they'll start using it all the time again. :p

Ya honestly, I wouldn't want them to make the system easier then it is I enjoy that its random, it makes the reward all that much more beneficial. I own every Blue magic spell available to BLU and some I spent hours to days on, I think it builds character and devotion too the class, and this way not just any shmuck can pick up the job and run with it. It takes dedication and time, and strongly frowns upon Abyssea burning, because good luck trying to get spells with a low ass Blue Magic Skill. If you want spells with success

1. Get Blue Magic Skill Capped
2. Wear your AF Gloves (these should never ever ever leave your inventory!)

AF gloves aren't available until another 25 levels. Also, time consumption doesn't equal difficulty, learning blue magic is just a different sort of grind, just much more randomized. Very randomized rewards are just annoying, I'd actually prefer it if it was a set amount of times you had to see a spell before you learned it (even if this number was higher than the average spell sightings before learning it). At least then I would know how long I would be sitting there, mindlessly doing the same actions over and over again.

For the record, I got Head Butt while autofollowing a high level friend of mine while I was doing grocery shopping.

But yes, even having the learning chance cap out at near 100% after 10 spell uses would have been fine with me. If you started at a 10% chance of learning and increased with about 8% for each kill up to a cap of ~95% after 10, you'd be likely to have learned it when you're up to 6-7 out of those 10. and extremely likely to have learned it after killing the 10th.

I can't say that this really bothers me. It is like anything in the game. Basically blue spells are like NM hunts where the spell is the drop. However, you get your chance at the drop increased drastically just by how many mobs there are in the game.

This is the trade off for being such a versatile class. Think of it like farming scrolls. It can take forever.

Well of course, yet I can honestly say, I solo'd all of my spells as soon as I could use them, and for the most part they were all easy up until the 50's and 60's. The only one prior I had difficulty with was Tigers, those bastards hit fast.... Yet anyway, the point is the fact that this isn't just something you can sit down and belt out in seconds or minutes, builds character amongst the existing BLU community. And makes the ones who have all the spells or the spells that are not easy to get, that much more respectable amongst the community. It builds character to sit out there for hours and days and get a spell, and makes BLUs that are devoted, reach the finish line, while the rest just collapse and give up as they rightly should. If you don't have the ambition to spur you forward, you shouldn't be in the job, thats my philosophy. I mean hell the title is even Master of Ambition lol.

Those that Abyssea burn this job, will also find it difficult to get spells, because the blue magic skill will be so low, and personally, i feel it should be that way. BLU is a job that if you love it, you'll stick with it, and make a good blue. If you don't, you'll give up, and you should. I have all of my spells, and I did them the old fashioned way, and I don't feel anyone should be cheated the experience of fetching their spells by making it easier. Its like beating CoPs now a days then back in the old days imo. Keep it difficult, keep it fun, keep the community dedicated. Don't make an Abyssea-easy-mode solution for everything... It raises a lazy community.

umm blue spells seems to be all about lucky but i couldnt help but think it might have some tim of math or something behind it. one day i will try to do a science test.

gaining Phys. spell
Test1 use one weapons =outcome?
Test2 use only phys.spell=outcome?
Test3 use only magic spells = outcome?
Test4 comination of all 3 = outcome?
will do the same with magic.

will also note the day,time,and moon phase
Might become to complex.

Best way to do it is, go after the spells you need to EXP with. Everything else is either a waste of time. till you get high enough level go after e spell with capped bluemage. equip anthing that boosts CHR & Blue magic skill and equip AF2 hands. Also might help is equip CHR based spells to raise chance of learning the spell.

That is probably what I will stick to. I only plan on taking it to 49 as a subjob option anyway.

There are somedays I hit it lucky and learn 3or 4 spells in a day. Then the next couple days i wont learn any. I will then let it be for a day or two, pick it back up and WHAM i learn a couple spells. Makes BLU a exiciting/frustrating job to learn. I am newly lvl90 (thanks to Abyssea--so am not capped), went out to learn Reaving Wind with a party of experienced BLU's and a NIN with a RDMtagalong :) I learned it and surprised myself and the other BLU's (a couple of them didnt learn it :( ) All just random luck of the draw

If you are only taking it to 49 as a subjob why are you worried about anything but Wild Carrot and Cocoon?

But seriously, it's been shown in many behavioral models that random rewards are more addictive than regular rewards. So why would SE want to change the formula?

I would like some spells to help me get to 49 too. I am not going to abyssea leech it.

Honestly, your not going to see much in data. You would need 4-6 chars that all can play BLU and test this method, everyone's experience in gaining spells is varied. The way I take it all spells have a % chance of learning, some higher then others but that might be just a biased opinion. Yet it works like item drops, you either get it because your in the % tier, or you don't because your outside of it. Really its nothing to gripe about, god forbid you should have to work for what you use rather then flashing around a thick wallet or a heavy purse. IMO

This seems kind of a cop out really, but I guess if this job is as good too you as /NIN is, then ya I would just get it over with and get your Cocoon and Wild Carrot. Really if your not into the job, you shouldn't even be doing it, only excuse I can see is maybe DRG/BLU but thats just me.

Only thing i say really worked for my was Capping blue magic.
1 spell took me a day or 2 till i capped blue magic trying to learn it, then i learned it.

I see some people who say +CHR helps with spells but +INT was suggested to me and it seemed to help; but that's only mere rumor.

I began playing the job because I absolutely loved it's history, it's one of the only jobs with one. And as I begun to play it, I found it fun. The only spell I had trouble learning was Self-Destruct; which took weeks lol.
