Reallowing skill ups in campaign?

Well since abyssea made this easy, no point restricting skill ups here so that people can choose to level on campaign instead. If the wall banging is really an issue maybe limit no skillups to soley that?

I can agree with that, and while we're on the issue they should also re-allow weapon breaks.

The 'issue' with wall banging never was skill-ups as far as I can see due to their level, it was the ability to AFK for large amounts (back then) of XP and AN while hitting them.

Then why were skillups removed from them?

I don't think there ever was an official statement about that, would be nice to get one. Only thing I can think of is that it was an effort to keep players in regular parties and whatnot... and/or to not be able to raise the skill-levels without any risks but honestly, the time when that might have made any kind of sense is long gone, I think. So there really is no reason that I can think of as to why it should be impossible.

It would add a great use, and even though it was recently revived quite a bit already, even more interest to it.

Not allowing skill-ups in campaign is, quite frankly, a ridiculous idea. Please allow Campaign skill-ups.

The point why you don't get skill ups is cause you don't risk to loose xp.
The point why you don't get xp for hitting the fortification is related to the problem they solved when it was possible to get xp from /brd (sing 10 songs then recieve your reward, reenter campaign battle).

I don't think it's a bad idea to let people get skill ups on campaign mobs (excluded the fortifications).
But on the other side - until now SE intended us to form parties for that purpose. And they improved the skill up rate on regular mobs.

remove the ability to skill up on the walls/forts and re-instate skill ups on the mobs

how about changing the icons in campaign maps to show a brick for a "wall hitting CB" and a sword for an actual fight (as long as the map updates stay current - different issue)- then allow better skillups for one and better exp for the other?

But in general I agree that CB needs to add Skillups or most players will avoid it like the plague or risk being a LVL 90 *whatever* with 130 skill in their weapon/magic of choice...

I doubt it really is of any concern anymore since the losses are so minimal, next to nothing, and more than very easy to get back. I did mention that as well as a possible reason for the past, but now I think it is really very irrelevant.

If memory serves, the Fortifications at least were level 50, so you would not get very high skill levels from them anyways, even now when you can maximise them from 'decent challenge' monsters.

As an interesting side-note however, you can get skillupses by whacking at the Zvahl Fortalices, which seem to be around level 75. Granted, it can be far from safe or without any risks, but something like 'skilling up with fortifications' is actually happening while the battles where one might be expected to really learn something, is not...

They could just make skillups in Campaign work the same way it did before they nerfed it, i.e. you can only get them WITHOUT allied tags. That eliminates the 'no risk' part, because there IS risk. If you take hate and die, you lose exp. And you're not getting any exp or allied notes for doing it, either.

Why bother with campaign anyway? I'm all for multi-purpose activities, but campaign doesn't seem to be of much use anymore.

Martial Master kupower + GoV = win. I went from 160 staff skill to 230, got trial staff, then 230 to 270 (broke staff), all over the course of a couple of hours during the weekend. Only got one combat skill gain buff and no Prousse Ring (was doing bat/worm page 4 in Zeruhn Mines for a shot at it, but unfortunately no Mystery Boxes:Bastok active), and that was the weekend before the auto-repeat update as well.

You gotta do Campaign to get Medal of Altana, as well as the Allied Notes to have the ability to use diffferent services in the past. An example would be if somehow a miracle happened and Fiat Lux became available in a nation's Campaign Ops. Another good example is needing the AN to ride a chocobo when you're trying to get to an area quick for magian trials (or even just porting to an area from a C.A.). I find all that to make Campaign pretty useful, if not as often as it used to be.

EDIT: When Campaign DID allow skill ups without tags on, all the monsters capped skills to Lv50. That wasn't game-breaking then, and it wouldn't be game-breaking now, considering how Zvahl Fortilaces and abyssea parties work. It would be an incentive to get Campaign going again if they allowed skill ups (even if just to Lv50's cap) when you had tags on.

I wasn't aware Fiat Lux still had any loot worth the effort.

You can earn Medal of Altana without doing a single campaign, if you complete one of the 13th quests for each of the nation storylines.
AN for teleportation (and buff) is handy, but you'd have enough after a single campaign to last a while.

You actually still have to earn those points for new medals. You only get to keep the certain medals for the corresponding nation you did the quests for.

You do not automagically obtain the medals by just completing the quests. ^^;

I wish they would do this, less because I care about Campaign at all and more because they recycled the Campaign code for WoE. If they re-allow skillups in Campaign, it'll probably also allow skillups in WoE.

Like Dragoy said, you have to earn those medals. The only thing the quests do is keep you from getting demoted past whatever medal they associate with.

Fiat Lux has okay gear, but some people are bent on completion and would like the clear for the atma, just to have it.

Chocobos from Recall points are usually about 280-350 AN, and if you don't like Campaign but like doing magian trials, a lot of your trials get done in the past from what I've experienced (Cure potency staff, INT+MAB staff, Evasion dagger). Also, the cost of teleportation from an area controlled by beastmen back to your campaign hometown can be pretty expensive, depending on where you are.

Did they at some point take that away from Walk of Echoes? I seem to remember, and pretty sure about it too, that I indeed did get skill upses at WoE. Granted, it has been a while since I was there if not counting the Test-Server, and seeing how they decided to change it, might be another while until I enter again (might not even happen ever).

They did, in the last patch. They changed it to essentially use the campaign code (any buff hits everyone in range, etc) so now it comes with the campaign problems (no skillups).

I would love the idea of doing Campaigns while skilling up on the side.

I'm not sure that's actually what this post means.

Specifically, "In addition to this, we are planning to use Walk of Echoes to test out the balance of skill increase in battle-related content." really just sounds like a bad translation to me.

Yeah, I don't know...
Maybe it is just for the test-server.

This line is what I was referring to myself, from the PlayOnline site: "Also, players will be able to raise combat and magic skills in the Walk of Echoes."

they removed skill ups cuz ppl where taking advantage of it would auto attack a mob turn away and hide then go afk get skill up points and exp plus the fact that anyone with A.O.E JA could skill up way to fast by spaming something that buffs everyone even ones not in your party. AKA bard.

Campaign mobs aren't that high level so it wouldn't do much for 85+. Very easy to cap parry/shield/guard now with skillup food in Altep vs like 20-30 black mandies. Just need Def/VIT atmas, /BLU and Phalanx with PDT set.

i wouldnt be so sure about that especially out in xarcabard (s) and beaucedine glaicer (s) but I never see enough people out there to do campaign battles there or in Castle Zvahl (S) even now with level 90+ and I doubt the reason for that is because the mobs are too low level. Even now it might be rare but I get skilling of mobs in the 50s and 60s even at level 90 so i dont see why we wouldnt be able to if they reactivated skill ups in Campaign battles with the Allied Tags on like in Besieged battles. In general though the weaker the mob is the fewer and further between skill ups occur and that is in all areas i been in including Campaign areas while not in Campaign battles under allied tags.
