I noticed this got added on the side underneath names and such, but what does it mean?
I've seem some people with (town) 0, 1, and 2.
P.S. This thread wouldn't be necessary if there was a PM feature.

Don't you have to sign up to a town to be on the test server? Shows who is signed up for the test thing.

Looking at the locations on people's profiles, it looks like perhaps San D'Oria is 0, Bastok is 1, Windurst is 2. Hard to tell though since many people don't bother to include their Location. Let me know if this seems right for you guys, or if anyone can debunk this myth.

they keep tinkering with it... last night it had me joining the test server, and assigned a town(never applied), now all that is gone. Knowing SE's history with adding new things to this game, gonna probly be lots of kinks for them to work out the first couple of weeks.

It has nothing to do with the test server. The Town name thing was related to your nation - some people theorized that it was an unfinished forum feature pulling info from the character database without changing it into useful information. Nations were numbered as follows:
San d'Oria = 0, Bastok = 1, Windurst = 2
