So with the announcement of the next update being in September, does that mean that the supposedly expected late August update isn't happening?
The Earthquake pushed all updates outlined on the Roadmap by 1 month.
guess they've just run into too many snags/delays for various reasons...can't even pin down a time for the Sept. update yet:
(from topics section on the main NA POL page today)Quote:
The FINAL FANTASY XI development team is hard at work putting the finishing touches on the next version update, currently on track for a late September release.
This update will see players climb to heretofore-unseen heights of power as the level cap is raised to 95, with a slew of new job abilities, spells, and more joining the mix as well.
And that's only the start of it! New Voidwatch areas, Burning Circle battlefields, the second stage of the Dynamis overhaul, and other additions and refinements to existing content will challenge players to make the most of their newfound abilities.
For further details, stay tuned to the Updates section of the official forums!
Boo friggen hoo.

Pay people over time to get our updates back on schedule since customers are still paying the same amount of money? Nah.
My heart kind of sank when I found out the update wouldn't be within the next week... or even the first week of September...
There better be so much f***ing content that I can't stop playing SE or I will be very very upset.
It's been known it was going to be in September since they announced they chocobo wand. I'm not sure why people are surprised.
better have a well thoughtthrough update than a halfassed one. keep patient, enjoy the summer and find stuff to do to bridge the time :)
doesnt matter will still be scheduled 2-3 emergency maintenances in week following anyhow ... test server what do u mean thats just for show and thought LOL
just give us the level cap increase now, they can bring in all that other crap when ever they want
Bah, belated update means more than likely 99 won't be until 2012.
Not the end of the world (or is it?) but still sucks.
Are we gonna play "Blame the Earthquake" for everything that gets pushed back till the game shuts down?
I'm sure some people are.
its nothing to do with earthquake it took them this long to find a functioning PS2 again to try and make it compatible with present technologies..... because we all know its PS2's fault!!!!!!
I don't mind the delay, gives me time to get my 6th job to 90, skilled and hopefully equipped in time for the 95. Rng is a pain if you don't leech, but if you do, you miss the quested WS (several of them) and have to backtrack, and I hate essentially leveling the same job twice, once to gear-equipping levels and a second time to the ability to actually make using a job worthwhile.
By that token, i STILL hope they'll address my biggest pet peave, my autos capping at level 74 and 50 as to spell growth. Maybe even address the whm AI.... nah, someone must have slipped something into my tea for me to think that could happen
When has an update ever not been at least 2 weeks later than they said it would be?
They cut the XI dev team quite heavily, to save money and to spread them over the 3 MMOs they are running/making. It's obvious they won't be able to keep upto their roadmap with a heavily pruned staff.
I think we all know what to expect from the update :(Quote:

It seems like they've only planned Voidwatch, Walk of Echeos, and Dynamis for this update...
Seriously though I personally hate Dynamis, it's an event that I could go the rest of my life without. Why are they insistent on continuing with that event instead of branching out to Limbus/Einherjar/Salvage?
"They cut the XI dev team quite heavily, to save money and to spread them over the 3 MMOs they are running/making. It's obvious they won't be able to keep upto their roadmap with a heavily pruned staff."
then they should be cutting the cost of a monthy sub then shouldn't they. The fee should reflect the support.
in all reality only thing people are looking forward to is the lvl 95 limit break this update LOL
so now people can farm their seals, empyreans and maybe the odd NM more easily
maybe the new ksnm bf's might beok depending on their drops and drop rate but we know how good SE is with that....
only a few handfuls of people do dynamis even less do voidwatch and walk of echoes now that u can't solo , duo farm if for a lesser empyrean weapons no one will do them .... can count the amount that do them now on one hand on cerberus LOL
after 2 weeks people will be just as bored stupid as we are now :( all jobs will be 95 by then people will be complaining about the overcrowded camps that will come with the empyrean nm's voidwatch will be rushed into for a week maybe 2 until they have tried it out and walk of echoes will still be dead
they are going to make the next emp. weapons levels require items from voidwatch, guaranteed. When one of their content fails because it just plain sucks, they don't bother fixing it, they toss something people really need into it to try and force people to play their crappy content.
mark my words.
The only time I'd agree with xbob. Anything that isn't utilized to their liking or to make us do a pointless grind will be used in Empyrean, i.e:
Hovering Hotpot.
Voidwatch while used isn't exactly popular but these 2nd phases will likely drop an item we need 80-100 of which comes randomly in a chest that may not even be for the one on the path.
Oh and of course, untradeable.
Some people will be. Certainly not everyone. Those that play at a more casual pace will still have lots to do.Quote:

The hardcore players have always been a paradox. They work so hard to become the ultimate machines of efficiency with all the best gear and macros and rip through everything new that SE offers, then they complain that they are bored. Why they can't just slow their pace down, take time to smell the roses, and then always have something to do in the game is beyond me.
Ultimate Player: "Simply because If I don't do it before you or not the first to complete it I wasted my time playing this game for x years and it's meaningless to do it after everyone else has done it, I need to continually reassure myself that I'm better than you even if I'll have nothing to do beyond sitting in port Jeuno till the next update."
In short.
Nearly 5 months after the last major VU, it isn't ok for players to want new content especially when Abyssea is so simple to complete if you actually go about it properly.
No one's gonna bash SE for the mini update setup they've run with but lets be serious here, XI is solely Abyssea and doing content that you might have ignored for years because well... it wasn't ever popular. The job adjustments are appreciated but what good are new toys when you don't have the targets to use them on yet?
I log in these days to decorate my Mog House. :D
Or maybe some of us just like a challenge. Some of us like being the best that we can be and still being pushed to our limits. Some of us just like pushing those boundaries and feeling legitimately accomplished when we win. I could care less if everyone or no one else did the things I do or got the things I got.
I don't give a flying frap about being better than you. I care about being better than myself. The pompous, hate-filled crap that people spew in regards to endgame players on this forum is beyond ridiculous. There is no innate moral high ground associated with being a casual player. All your statement demonstrates is an abundance of insecurity and arrogance. Someone "having more" or "accomplishing more" than you does not mean that they did so by cheating, or with a lack of moral fiber. Sometimes they just worked harder, or plain got luckier, than you.
I do want content that challenges the best to be better. Why? Because I like becoming better than myself.
Indeed. This is what we all like.
You're new to FFXI, or you honestly never paid attention to the game's endgame community till the population dropped. There's a reason you may see "pompous hatefilled crap spewed about endgame players, a reason many of us long time players are aware of, granted a lot of those players have quit, but XI's endgame was well known to have a highly arrogant and asshole community with few good seed.Quote:

We all do.Quote:

That's the point.
I've been playing since release, have killed nearly everything in this game, and have been a leader in an Endgame linkshell for years. Yes, there were definitely some childish morons in the Endgame field, but that has always been true of every facet of every game ever made.
The Casual community? Just as bad. Frankly, I consider the Casual community to be a lot worse due to the sheer volume of players in it. Everyone already knows who the few arrogant/retarded jackasses are in the Endgame community, because the community as a whole is so small. With the casual community, you have a significantly larger sample size to draw crappy, arrogant assholes from.
Of course, far be it for me to make sweeping generalizations about a group of players based on a few exceedingly loud people that ruin it for everyone else. It's significantly easier for people to just lump all Endgamers together and label them as horrible people because it makes people feel superior in their own way. For all the clamoring about Endgame players needing to make themselves "feel superior" to everyone else by lauding over their accomplishments and gear, Casual players have a horrid tendency to overcompensate for this perceived threat and laud their alleged moral superiority over the rest of us in kind. It's distasteful.
Yup.
Wait, did you guys honestly think that the update would be in august?
Granted, considering there was much focus on that roadmap thing, there will always be delays for every company that wants to put out a product. I wasn't even really expecting anything that said we were going to get an update anytime soon this month, either.
Patience, young grasshoppers.
"Think"ing the update would be in August is completely different from hoping it would be in August.
