Blue Mage and ToM Staves

I belive, and I'm sure the blu community as a whole would too, that SE would re-evaluate blu's place as "mage" job and absence of avalibility in equiping Trial of Magian staves. As many of us blu know we have great versatility and would definably find a much needed utility in being able to also equip ToM staves. Also I'd like to remind SE of rdm and the lack of staff skill they also have and their affinity of the sword.

I belive such a small, easy fix would bring the blu community great enjoyment along with the host of other updates soon to come.

Honestly, the staves while powerful from a nuking standpoint, I don't see them as appropriate for a Bluemage. The most appropriate style of weapons are the accuracy sword trial(physical spells benefit most from this). Physical spells are WAY more power fuller then our magical side. They're cheaper to cast. They're faster to recast.

Second, the debuff trials will affect a bluemages nukes anyway. Specifically the buff MACC, MAB, and the debuff MACC and MAB. Let's say one trial gives you +15 either MACC or MAB. Pair this(dual wield or another player) with debuff -15 either MACC and MAB to mob, and you get a 30pt spread...Or, double up on the buffs I think thats nearly a middle ground of any staff trial but on a sword.

Blue don't need access to staves. Period.

I'm tired of ToM. I do not want to do the stave trials for Blue Mage.

Also, the weapons through ToM are typically the best for the jobs that can equipment. With Blue Mage already having access to much equipment and the H.Q. Staves still boasting respectable stat boosts, I don't think it would be fair that we should gain access to the best Staves also.

The only reason I'd want this is to finish trials faster without having to level Blm, that's really about it. That and +invo from not having to carry most of the elestaves I use on Blu along with ToM staves for rdm/whm.

Magian Staves would be pretty nice to have, and it wouldn't be terribly difficult to make them on BLU. I, too, would like to dump my HQs that I now only carry around for BLU.

I would love to have staves for blu but we don't even get native staff skill.. so wouldn't make sense.

Nor does Rdm >< SE can do it if they really want but it's just space saver Imo.

Holyshit at the misconceptions in this thread.

1. Trial staffs are easiest to make on BLU despite your previous experiences with trial weapons
2. RDM doesn't have native skill, so skill isn't the deciding factor
3. BLU has "mage" in it's name as well and can use them for magical nukes (Common counter to [2])
4. Higher staff skill classes like MNK cannot access Trial Staffs (Elemental or not)

*cough* Mnk should have access to the staves just so I can use the Dark ToM staff for Cataclysm burn!

If your looking to save inventory make two shamshir +2's with +10 magic atk bonus and 9 int they are on par with the H.Q. staves dmg wise and will likely be much better after next level cap increase, when they add more trials for them. All the trials for them can be done in a few hours for two of them.

MAB swords are greatly inferior to HQ staffs.

Opps!! My bad, I should have added a disclaimer saying blu's who wear electrum rings and af swords aren't aloud to post, lol. I must say though I'm shocked at some of these comments, not so much the content because I do consider the source, but of said source logging onto forum and going to the trouble to post. Which tells me such persons are not doing so out of hate for the blu community but have a mindset of being a authority on blue mage. Sad. Not going stroke childish ego's here.

Lets lay down a few truths here. No matter how it's twisted and turned, warped or altered, adding the ability to give blu mage access to ToM staves is in no way a negative, or outlandish idea or request. Blue "Mages" would find great added utility and versitility in being able to for those who are interested.

just a little input from an outsider...ToM staves don't really make sense to the blu style of fighting...mages yes, but they are always portrayed as being more fighter with a little magical ability than a mage with a little fighting ability...besides, I fiddled with blu a bit myself (just a little hobby mind you :) ) and even as a taru I wouldn't use the magical blu spells extensively....more often than not, I used them only if I had the opportunity to MB off of my SC's...anywho, just a few thoughts from an outsider, peace out :)

Bubeeky, hmmm you admit your a outsider, yet you claim to know what makes sense for the job... lol. Ya, as you might have expected you're alittle off on your asumptions in many aspects.

I already have to have them for blm and rdm... I'd be quite happy having them on blu as well. Having to keep the HQ staves around for just blu is aggravating(sans the ones I need for landing enfeeb spells). Surely SE isn't scared of blu nukes becoming too powerful are they...

I think it's fair for SE to at least consider or advise us it's currently being considered as with the latest updates nukes have been the forefront.

I'm not claiming to know without question what makes sense, I'm just going off of the storyline of the af and the job flag quest and the missions in toau, of which I have done all...I'm making the observation that every time BLU is portrayed in game, it's portrayed as more fighter than mage, and in previous ff games, they couldn't use staves either, so being able to use the ToM staves doesn't make sense to me

PS, those weren't assumptions really, they were my own personal experiences with the job at 51...hardly hardcore endgame experience, I know, but still no assumptions :)

if you guys are really hard up for additional nuke power, why not suggest a ToM sword that does what the staves do or something similar?

+1 for wanting TotM staves for Blue Mage.

You're over estimating HQ staves. They are superior but not "greatly". That said there will be a point where the opposite will become true. Unless they stop TotM at 90 for some strange reason.

Edit: If you're gonna argue inside Abyssea then yes they are "greatly" superior but then again inside Abyssea you can hit 100+ MAB which you can't do outside and the game isn't only Abyssea.

LOL Magic Damage Affinity +10 would be fun but pretty sure BLMs would get pissed. Not to mention it would be overpowered.

I would also like to see BLU gain access to some form of magic affinity weapon superior to the HQ staves. Magians would be preferable for inventory's sake.

Your first argument amounts to "My definition of greatly is different from yours." Your second argument fails to recognize that BLU will probably gain MAB options, which ultimately undermines the capacity of MAB Swords. While it is possible for swords to beat elemental staffs, it will have to do so in an environment where 1) It currently does not, 2) The bonus from staffs is likely to remain consistent, and 3) superior MAB options will undermine the utility of MAB swords. It's a very speculative argument at best. This is before considering magic accuracy associated with staffs.

Blue Mage continues to gain more and more useful magical spells, and yet remains stuck with the same set of level 51 staves. Feels bad man. I'm sure my thought after grinding out 4 billion and 4 monsters with Charged Whisker would be "Feels worse man." but it would be nice to have the option to do so.

And no, using the Magic Attack Bonus swords isn't a good idea. It's the opposite of a good idea. A bad idea.

I'd say SE would give at most half of the trial due to being able to wield two swords, though it's more likely it'll be a bit less maybe just the +1 Magic Affinity.

Lol yeah, but a boost in Affinity +10 to a Blue Mage would probably be equal to a BLM with +5 >_>

I still feel if Blue Mage is going to get more Affinity bonus' it doesn't need to be done through the ToM staves. They could introduce something else for it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Magic Affinity become a trait. 1-2 wouldn't be out right broken. Though honestly BLU nukes aren't worth using outside of few specific situations.

If they wanted BLU to match BLM with nukes, they woulda made the nukes stronger. I like the way BLU nuking works, it's somewhat cheap yet still delivers a relatively sturdy punch.
