I seem to remember some talk on the FFXI Digest about after empyrean +3 was implemented there would be a big update with sweeping job adjustments to all 22 jobs. Is that still happening? I do imagine something like that would take a lottt of testing for balance. Balancing was the point of the thing, If I recall.
There was a time period where many but not all jobs recieved adjustments, and some would say the Job Points system fits that description as it included new traits, spells and abilities for all jobs.
So while most if not all jobs recieved updates over a certain period of time a few years back, it was done here and there, and not all at once. Even the job points system was fleshed out over several patches, so there was no one update that impacted all jobs.
It was also not really about balance, unlike other MMOs, XI's jobs are not homogenized and are not really balanced against each other, but really based on what each brings to the table. It's very different from, say, FFXIV, where jobs fall into a few set categories and all jobs within those categories do basically the same thing with different "rotations."
So the TLDR answer is yes, there was a time period in which more or less every job recieved adjustments of some sort. That time period has already long since gone by and there aren't any current plans to make more changes.
Feel Job updates should be part of the Maintenace Mode agenda.
With new battles, comes new strategies, which introduce new playstyles, which jobs must adjust.
Imo, it was easier to adjust jobs at the 75 cap. Now, there are so many gimmicks and weird battles, the job "Balance" is more convoluted.
