Crafting Shield (skip crystal?)

I am wondering if its possible to skip a step of crafting by obtaining two crystals at once?
With the 'recylce zone' its possible to craft to 100%, trade your shield, drop the soul.
Re-engage your shield to 100%, grab another crystal, complete your synthesis of the shield, and then retrieve your soul/crystal from the trash before zoning..

Wont this effectively skip say stage 3 where your shield would normally get the negative synthesis bonus? you would just need to make the requests, grab your crafter items and move onto stage 4?

Has anyone tried?
