Would it be possible to add the functionality to Dual-Box from one screen/character?

I've dual-boxed for a number of years now, and I've had this idea circle my brain a couple of times before. Here's the concept:

-You would have 2 game systems (2 x PS2s, 2 x Xbox360s,or 2x PCs. Or a mix of either of these)
-Create two characters separately.
-Log on with both characters separately.
-Control both characters via either ONE of the character's game menus.

It would be no different than any other FFXI game in the past in regards to controlling multiple characters via the Main character, so I'm curious about this possibility.

I understand there would have to be limits such as capping the number of characters a player would be able to control based on this functionality so folks couldn't control an entire party or alliance and such, but I'm concerned with the possible gameplay it would offer. How many people would create 2-3 more characters if this functionality be realized? That type of thing.

I don't foresee this happening anytime soon. The technical challenges would be far too numerous to even attempt to overcome. The way it's designed each account/character logged in has to have it's own instance of PoL. It just seems to me the technical limitations of the 3 systems in question would prevent it. PS2 memory limits, and the by now famous Xbox lag freeze are 2 limits I can think of. PC might be able to pull it off with tweaks, but again I don't see it happening.

EDIT: it looks like what you want is being able to run multiple characters per account at the same time unless I'm misunderstanding. Again the system was designed to only run one character per account despite being able to have multiple characters registered to one account. To run multiple would require tweaks to the games entire foundation as well as the user interface. It's just not feasible with the current environment.

If you're talking about controlling two different handles from one computer, I think it would be better to just have you input both account's login info from one machine. If you allow 1 handle to control a secondary one that's logged in through another machine, you have to be very careful about security. Would run the risk of a hacker possessing other characters at whim if they figured out how to get the server to ok the possession of other handles.

That being said I'm not sure they would allow this, or would want to spend the time recoding the login scripts / game scripts. Also brace yourself b/c I'm sure as soon as they wake up the trolls are going to jump all over this.

I doubt any negativity would get to you, you seem (I don't mean insult by this) like you would bleed prosac and rainbows if I cut you. I can see where you're coming from. This would help wife/husband combos, friends helping offline friends, as well as people who just want to duo with/PL themselfs.

It would be alot of work to impliment something like this though, and not just from the control standpoint.

/lmao ><; I try to stay as positive as possible, just make sure you never see me in traffic one day ^^; since rainbows would be the last thing you think of in regards to me at that point :D

I just wonder if SE has considered this at all for all the dual-boxers that play FFXI, plus the extra dollars it might create from mass amounts of newly created characters for this purpose. I'm sure it would be extensive work to implement, but it would be nice to focus on one controller instead of two.
