Can't login to FFXI on some characters

Steps:

1. I clicked to exit out of Mog House into Eastern Adoulin.

2. The screen turned blank and said "Downloading data" in the lower right corner as usual. It continues to do this for an extended time until Error code: FFXI-3001 comes up and I click "OK".

3. I shutdown Playonline completely and even restarted my computer, then tried logging back in and all I get is the black screen with "Downloading data".

4. This happens on at least one other character of the same account logging into the Mog House in San d'Oria. However, other characters on the same account have no problem logging in.
