Setting up automated payments

I've been paying for the game with crysta that I added a long time ago, and it's finally run out and I've started paying for crysta monthly. I thought that SE added a method for automatic billing of credit cards but I can't find any information on how to set up my account to do so.

I tried looking around the SE account management page, and saw something about registering a payment method, but there's no indication of what that actually does. Their online help is horribly outdated and only mentions crysta.

Any help is appreciated.

Registering a payment method means that they bill that payment method directly whenever your 30 day subscription expires, to set up another 30 day period. You either need to keep Crysta in your account or you need to register a payment method. Good luck on your card not suffering a 401 or 601 error when you register it, causing you to be unable to try another payment for at least 24 hours (up to 30 days). That's why getting PayPal back was such a big deal.

registering a payment method does just that- registers a payment method....

It's not complicated- you just click that, choose the payment method you want to use and it will be registered to your account. then whenever you incur service fees, they will be billed to that payment method.

Most people should not have the described issue above using a credit card. Just be aware if you DO get an error, not to try again right away. I've never had trouble using credit card payments; but this is the only way to pay automatically. the only way you can automatically pay with crysta is to put more than 1 month's worth of fees in crysta on your account. As long as there's enough crysta to cover your sub, it will be taken automatically without any effort on your part.
