Make "Concoction" useful again

Potions and Ethers are synonymous with Final Fantasy games. However, players don't use many of them in FFXI because ether 1. They take up a lot of space and 2. many of the ones that are actually useful impose a heavy "medicated" effect.

Concoction was a great solution for the lower level potions and ethers back in the day because it turned potions and ethers into concentrated medicine "Drops" (Stackable to 12.)

The two biggest problems with Concoction today is 1. It can only make low tier/level potions and ethers and 2. they each give a 5 min medicated effect.

Why not enable Concoction to make the higher tier/level potions and ethers into medicine drops (i.e X-potion Pro-ether?) Or even lower or remove the medicated effects?

The medicine market needs a shot in the arm.

Well, so far as the medicine market goes, adding the same grade of healing items as we see from temp items would be amazing for it, they do not have to be as powerful, but fast acting healing items which are powerful are the best thing to bring them back.

I like this idea and it actually solves a problem of people not wanting to play a healer role which seems to be happening more and more often. However it would need to be on par with Demon's suggestion:

I'm curious why not make them as powerful and make them stack to 99? Any DD who opts for the potion healer over an actual healer would be sacrificing gil and dps. While the gil may be of little consequence the dps loss is something huge to consider as a DD and to me sounds like a fair sacrifice.

Sounds like soloing would become to easy when you think of having potions that give you back like 2k HP, take 1 second to use, and have no downfalls at all.

Eh that's true but what are you going to solo of value at the moment?

I guess it helps explaining where I'm coming from, when I see that argument I look at my PUP and I sit here and think "I can already do that and get pro/shell/haste/na/erase".

I dunno, just seems like a reason SE wouldn't do it to me.

Having a stack of potions wouldn't be all that different from having a dual-boxed healer, so it's not like it'd be overpowered.

The amount of gear required to be able to solo that is rather high. Someone who's gotten to that point more than likely already has a WHM mule so they're effectively soloing it. Also keep in mind if you have to pop a potion while Hundred Fists Formless Strikes you're effectively losing around 200-400k damage roughly from activation and item delay.

I don't disagree the fear of soloing is something SE would see as a reason to stop it but at this point I think finding a way to solve the lack of players willing to fill the healer role a higher priority (don't get me wrong I love being able to join almost any event because I have a decent WHM and am willing to play it).

In either case I would love healing items like this, I have always thought that Potions and Ethers were far to underused, even in my low level days when I wanted to use them and I first started out I could not because I was to broke, and by the time I was really able to use them and throw away that kind of gil at NPCs it became far to time taking to use them that I was taking more damage than I was recovering HP. In all it annoyed me that items like that in this game were useless for the most part, and since these temps are so amazing having normal crafted versions at high levels of Alchemy would be amazing. I only threw in the weakening part because I would rather them be weaker than not to exist at all because SE deems the normal versions to powerful in the first place. Its something I often do when talking about ideas in a general scope because I know SE has a large tendency to simply say something we want is overpowered and game breaking without ever providing another response, so adding in that it could be weaker and I would still like it is a bit more info in the original post they are even replying to incase they ignore my further requests.
