ok so as most already know, the xbox 360 controller triggers don't work on PC, up til now I've been on windows 7 using XBCD but I just got a new comp and it runs windows 8, so I went to get my XBCD driver on the new comp and in big capitals it said XBCD MAY NEVER WORK ON WINDOWS 8! so now I have to figure out a way to get my triggers working on windows 8, anyone managed this or have any suggestions?
and on this note SE please update controller support, this has been a problem for years it should have been fixed by now...

Just remap the 2 triggers to use the 2 bummers instead, problem solved. It's close enough that it should take you all of about 1 session to get use to them. SE has known of this problem for years and given how many other things are on their plate right now. I much rather they focus on other things that has absolutely no alternative at all.

I don't want to have to work around it and I shouldn't have to... The game even runs on Xbox 360 how hard can it be to update it to work with the gamepad? I could live with having to get a different driver to use my triggers but now I can't even do that so the game should be updated to support a controller it is actually already played with. And I'd rather they fix the gamepad I've been playing with for 7 years now than work on their next to-be-delayed project. So when said project does come out I can play it the way I have been and want to play it.

FFXI was made 11 years ago with directx 8. Now directx 8 does not natively support Xbox360 controllers thus the triggers don't work. It wasn't until directx 9 which had the xinput api for full 360 controller support.
At this stage in the game MS isn't going to go back and totally rework FFXI for directx 9. -

Check out "XPadder" (Google). It's a fantastic tool that you can map your own bindings too (for any controller recognized in windows really). So for example, you could assign the right bumper to the 'r' key (for auto run).

That sounds interesting but what about the D-pad? There are no keyboard controls that perform the same function as that I don't think?

03-22-2013, 04:24 AMDreaminI'm sorry, I thought you had ASKED for suggestion and I gave you an honest alternative that does not take more than an hour to adjust to the changes but if you insisted that SE MUST somehow swap out their controller interface, then you can just keep waiting because frankly, I dont see that as a priority for them at all. There are so many things broken with this game right now that this should not be a high priority at all.Quote:
