Linkshell Guild Item Bank

I emailed this idea a while back but figured i'd post it here too.

I would like to suggest a Linkshell Item bank, where you would be able to checkout items (ie weapons) for a set amount of time. To prevent stealing/selling/etc, such item when checked out would have a LS icon added to it. This icon would prevent an item from being sold, dropped, or traded. Also while you have such item checked out you would not be able to change servers, names, or deactivate account. After X amount of time(i suggest 30 days) the item would automatically be transferred back to the Linkshell item bank, regardless if you are logged in or not. Also to prevent leaders from stealing all items in ls item bank, it would take X amount of votes from sack holders that have been sack holders for X amount of time for any item to be removed from bank.

The removal of item from LS bank to be sold or given is the only part that I don't think I've thought through enough. The conditions imposed on checkout by members should be enough to prevent any stealing of any item.

Discussion/thoughts?

I actually really like this idea and thought of pretty much the exact same thing a long time ago. Why don't you guys like it?

Some changes to the original idea could be that anyone in the shell could put an item in the bank and then only the person who originally put in the item could take it out. I would also say that the check out period should last only while the person is logged in. As soon as you log out of the game with a piece of checked out gear it should be checked back into the bank. Follow the same logic if you unequip the shell as well.

Maybe allow the person who checked in the item to be able to check it in at anytime from any character to try and prevent afk players from hogging the gear for too long.

Are you thinking this bank would apply to ex gear too or no? I would lean towards no personally but it could be kind of cool. Maybe only certain ex items, kind of like the dbox system to mules?

Maybe there could even be some sort of quests to increase the bank inventory space and have something that the entire ls could work together on. There could also be some sort of "linkshell only gear" that drops right into your ls bank for the ls to use. Obvious problems could arise with regards to the shell breaking, the leader quitting, server merges, etc. These issues would have to be alleviated with further ls features currently not in the game (change leader, set a second in command, etc).

Cool idea to think about but unfortunately will probably not get implemented. Seems like a lot of work for a little gain. I would rather have them fix some jobs (rdm, pld) and the enmity system before this.

Because it's generally a bad (de)sign when an idea requires to overcome the mountain of problems that arise from it.

It can also be done right now by assigning a mule for LS storage duties, and have a clear online document with LS rules that state that if you borrow any items from any LS members, you are required to return them when leaving the linkshell or when the original owner requests it.

I'm not against a LS bank feature where members could deposit stuff for others to use (such as crafting components, leveling gear no longer sold on AH, etc), but when you need a board of directors to remove even a flintstone it's rather pointless. Such a LS bank feature would be interesting in combination with a LS moghall. Buy an island in Adoulin, put up an upgradable linkshell hall, decorate it with furniture like stuffed behemoths or a bismarck skull for prestige.

The original idea proposed here is pretty horrendous and should be drowned in a bathtub, but that said, it would be nice to have a LS "dump" that you could access where people could put unwanted items that others might need like scrolls, low level equips, etc. Of course, even that would require massive reprogramming that would be much better spent fixing other stuff in the game.

Massive reprogramming? Take a standard treasure box, hook it up with a guild shop menu, a few UI changes here, some new dialog there, cover it with a layer of lore juice, and presto, you're done. A week, maybe two weeks, should be enough.

That's true I suppose, but that would require someone playing the mule and a certain level of trust. With the system being discussed, there would theoretically be no fear of losing your gear that you put in. I was also thinking of being able to access this "bank" simply from the linkshell menu. Maybe after clicking on the "bank" choice an ah like interface pops up where you can choose weapons or armor and then more specific drill downs from there. The idea of having a physical chest to deposit/withdraw gear and weapons is interesting and makes more sense than having a magical ls bank delivery service included in your pearl, although not as easy as having it all accessible through the ls menu!

Ooh I really like the idea of a LS hall! That has a lot of possibilities, could have LS ranks of some sort which would let your shell take on missions and rank up to take on harder missions. Rewards could include ls bank items, ls hall expansions, among other things. Maybe the shell next to peoples names and when they are checked could change shape or something depending on rank/commitment to the LS hall missions.

With this idea maybe you could take into account peoples craft skills as well. Like if for example you have an expert goldsmither you could upgrade your guild with more decorative gems and golden items through items they craft, or something like that.

Again, cool ideas, but not likely :(
